Who Who is Diamond Fan?

Let me clarify...I just felt they were unimpressive to be from HW and they were not for work wear in a conservative environment. As for what to get with it, I could not possibly know your neckline on the dress you will chose or what you want to spend. You could spend 4, 5 or 6 figures depending on how blingy you want something, the caliber of the stones, the total carat weight and the style. I would do a lovely diamond by the yard type change with a largish pear diamond drop, maybe where the chain goes around your neck twice, with a shorter and longer strand...

I should rephrase my question then: What would match the earrings? I''d like to keep the cost in the 4 figure range.

I think what I described would be nice. Get a longer diamond by the yard chain, that you can double. Have the pear mounted with a pave bale that can be opened, so that you can attach it once you have put the necklace on. Which size did you get in the earrings?

Medium. Sorry, but I''m having a tough time visualising what you''re suggesting.

DiamondFan,
You said you went to school in Beverly Hills. Did you know any famous people?? What were they like?
I guess I was thinking about it because I went to school with 2 actors. One was famous already and the other one became famous after we graduated. They both were normal teenagers. Just wondering.
20.gif

I went to high school with a few...Nicholas Cage is probably the most famous now. I knew Marvin Gaye the 3rd, from elementary school, and a few of people in the music industry, one girl started a band that was pretty famous, a girl whose father managed groups like Kiss and Night Ranger and Donna Summer and another is a producer''s son. I also had a friend who went to school with me whose dad discovered two really famous guys in the 1950''s and made them stars, the Justin Timberlake of the day type thing. I knew couple of girls who were on tv series, like Square Pegs and a soap opera, the one with Deirdre Hall. A good pal from school scores movies and another produces them. I saw a lot of famous people at parties, meaning people who became famous later. I went to Beverly Hills High and there were a lot of famous people that went there, but not as many during my time there. Who are the people you know?

Well; I use to have a huge Crush on Nicholas Cage!!! What was he like? Shy or outgoing? Weird or popular??? Hahaaa, I guess I still kind of have a crush on him. LOL!

I actually went to school with Freddie Prinze Jr., Neil Patick Harris and Terry Columbine(she is on some CBS soap). Don't know if you heard of them? Neil was Doogie Houser, MD.

Def heard of FP Jr. and NPH. Not the other one but I do not watch soaps so that would be a tough one.

I was not friends with him but had math with him. He sat at the front in one row and I was in the front in the row next to him to his left. He was quirky, it has clearly served him well as one could guess by some of the roles he plays and his marriage situations over the years. A talented guy for sure. I never wanted to be in the entertainment field, I was in a couple of pageants in college and hated it, and just never wanted to be in front of a camera. Producing, writing, directing, maybe. Never as an actress, just not my thing.

OK DF....since you''re one of the veteran mommies around here, I''m going to pick your brain for some potty training advice!
9.gif
You''re always spot-on with the childrearing stuff so I will anxiously await your opinion!

My DS is almost 4 and is about 75% potty trained (still needs pullups overnight, sometimes has slightly damp underwear when he''s tired and forgets to go to the bathroom). We think he''s doing fine in general. BUT, my DD turned 2 in January and still REFUSES to get on the potty. She screams and carries on and won''t even go near it. We''ve tried reading potty stories to her, tempting her with sticker rewards....but nothing that we did with our DS is working with her! We need to get her trained before September since that''s when she starts preschool. Her pediatrician says not to push it, or potty training will backfire and become an "issue." She said to just wait awhile before trying again. I''m getting nervous though. Shouldn''t she be ready by now??

Help!!! Have you experienced this with your boys, and how did you deal with it?

Well, I think potty training is one of the tougher things to do. There is the child''s physical readiness but there is also the emotional side. You know, you can lead a horse to water but cannot make him drink. So, there might be a control issue involved, and she is not wanting to use the potty. I also heard, not to be gross, that sometimes kids are easier to train in terms of wee wee than poop, which I thought was less true since they go more pee often there is a greater likelihood of an accident...but apparently some kids feel a piece of them is leaving (via flushing) and they are scared of letting go. I would have the potty seat in the play room, I would just have it there and then have NO MORE DISCUSSIONS about it. You still have lots of time before Sept, when she is ready it will happen in a short time, so I would stop letting it be a battle point now. When my oldest, who is 14, was 2 1/2 he was basically totally trained. Then I had my second and he regressed. He would pee in the potty at school and be dry, but the minute he got home or I took him out it would start. Once he went in the corner of a store and pooped, after I could tell he needed to go and asked and he said no. Basically, I cleaned him up, took him home and told him he would not be going out with me again since he did that. Then, on the advice of my doctor, I kept him in underwear, and when he needed to poop he would ask for a diaper. The doctor said, okay, then, put one on him, let him go, remove it, clean him up, put the undies back on, but DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT. Between this and not going out with me on special errands, which he loved because I left my little one at home, he caught on within about a week. It was all about the control at that point. It is really a battle you cannot win, and the more you talk about it the worse it becomes. So, I would just drop it, do not discuss big girl pants, treats or bribes...let her decide on her own to do it, Reinforce with praise when she takes a step in the right direction, but make no negative remarks. I think at this point, unless there is something up medically which I doubt, that is going to be your best course of action...good luck! My 5 year old will lie to me and tell me does not have to pee when I know he does, he isn''t part camel! And we will go and of course he pees, but he denies that he needed to and it makes me cuckoo!!!

DF, thanks so much for the advice! Sounds like the experts and mom-pro''s are pretty consistent on one thing: don''t make a fuss about potty-training in front of an unwilling child.

I really like your idea of putting the potty in her play area. Maybe she''ll just get so used to seeing it that sitting on it won''t be so scary. My son does what your son did about always saying NO when asked if he has to go potty. My DS hops around, flush-faced, clutching his butt, and will STILL insist that he doesn''t have to go poop.

So tell us....do you have your eye on any beautiful new baubles, bags, or wardrobe pieces?

I always love hearing about your stunning acquisitions!

I think if you put a potty seat in the room, one of those plastic ones, and just leave it, her interest will be piqued. Worth a try certainly...I also got Once Upon a Potty...there is a book and dvd, for boys and for girls. There is a catchy tune in it, and I would play it and just be in the room, not commenting at all, just being there for any questions. My kids loved the dvd, and it took me out of the loop in terms of explaining things or lecturing them. I love how kids think we cannot tell they have to go potty...hello, you are red in the face and hopping around clutching yourself!!! Dead giveaway.

I just bought two new Roberto Coin bracelets, one in white and one in yellow, in the the silk weave collection. They are a flat flexible bangle. The yellow has 9 little rows of diamonds clustered in threes, and the white has three rows separately. A little something for me from me, along with the the stainless FM watch with the platinum face and the tri colored rolling ring, no diamonds.

Then, the necklace which I just got, and am loving...but this is strictly a dressy piece. Miss Princess Kitty will not be pleased!!! I really did want a great necklace, and so I am happy now to have it and be able to enjoy it.

I am trying to get DH to do re do our gym downstairs...I want to add a gym model Cybex arc trainer to the mix (we have the Precor 5.33 eliptical and the Precor treadmill)...I want to get a universal piece with lat pulls and different things as well, and just get organized down there. My project at this point. Got to get off some winter excess before the summer comes!!!!

KD, I potty trained 3 boys, and none were ready til 3 years. I first tried at 2, no go, quit. Then I just let them tell me when they were ready. I also had the problem of them pooing on the potty fine, but still wetting sometimes. Someone suggested letting them run in the house with no undies on. Something about not liking to pee out in the open so to speak. It worked like a charm.

Might try that?

But I fully agree with not making it an issue.

KD, my mom always says, "By the time they get to college, they can use the bathroom and read, and no one knows at what age they learned"

True, but annoying when you are trying to accomplish something. But most doctor''s think around 3 is fine, and more likely with boys, and that making a fuss only makes it worse!

closer to the side where the windows were..., its getting hotter!!!

DiamondFan,
I always read your posts and agree with 97% of them. You are so wise. I laugh because you always beat me to what I am thinking. Like what you told Harriet about buying the condo and we both thought about the drapes and honeycomb shades for DJ. You are wise. heeeheee

Also, what DiaGem in class with you or does DG like Nick Cage also?!?!?! heehee

Diagem, Bigler basic algebra?

Skippy, what about the other 3%
2.gif

I guess he was in the same class. As my last name was near the beginning of the alphabet before Coppola (his last name in real life) I was closer to the door into the room from the hallway. Diagem was near the windows that looked out over the lawn. He will not tell me who he is but I think we must have had math together...I think he was my year in high school, but have a bad memory about who else was in this class with me!

I wonder why he wouldn''t tell you. That would drive me nuts. Bad DiaGem!

I know, BAD! I hate to wonder about these things!

No, too nervous, though I did take Xanax on the way home from Italy and that worked well. I tried Ambien and got sick from it. I also get stir crazy on flights, forgetting safety, I just hate that trapped feeling for hours and hours...no matter how many songs are on my ipod, or movies to watch or books and magazines, just knowing I cannot get off til it lands drives me bonky!

DF-

I don''t post much but always love reading your posts...I truly live vicariously through you. Like yourself, I''m an insomniac and used to just try to deal with it...then I hit a horrible 3 month stint where I was getting maybe 2 hours of sleep at night (while working full time and going to law school at night). That was no fun. I tried the Ambien, which kept me awake even more at night and made me ill. Finally I did my own research and tried melatonin. It''s a natural hormone. I''m finally getting some sleep at night. I''d highly recommend it!

Scarlet (love that name btw, Gone with the Wind is my all time favorite book!!!), someone else just mentioned melatonin to me. I think it takes time to get into your system, am I right? I am willing to try anything. I am averaging 2-4 hours of sleep per night, I have dark circles under my eyes and slog through the day like a zombie a lot of the time. I have chronic pain in my low back and neck and have hot water bottles and those heat patches up the wazoo. I toss and turn, waking up hubby, and feel like crud in the morning...I feel for you, we are soul sisters in insomnia...I cannot believe you worked and went to school like that, I would be bumping into the walls!!

Oh dear-you have no idea how much I empathize with you. Typically by early morning I was feeling like I was ready to die...with another 12 hours left in the day. Some days I would think if I could just put my head down for a few minutes...and pass out on my desk. Forget about nights, it would take me a good hour to fall asleep. Then I''d wake up every hour at best, and it would take another 20-30 minutes lying there to fall back to "sleep". Luckily my fiance sleeps like the dead and didn''t feel my restlessness. Needless to say I was a severe cranky-pants for a good 3 months. And to top it off, for the first 2 months I was too prideful to admit anything was wrong and felt I just needed to suck it up...until I finally broke down emotionally one day.

I would definitely talk to you doctor about melatonin (I say talk to a doctor first b/c there can be some negative results if you''re on other medication). I don''t think it takes that much time to get into the system. If I remember correctly, it worked the first night I used it. The effectiveness may have been sporadic at first, but I upped the dosage and by the second week I was sleeping amazingly (and consistently). There''s a lot of information about it out there on the web.

I bought mine at my local health food store. I started with 1.5mg but eventually moved up to 3.0mg b/c the smaller dosage was letting me sleep for 4 straight hours (mind you a VERY restful 4 hours). With the 3.0mg, I''m getting a full 7-8 hours rest AND wake up fully refreshed in the morning. WHAT A CHANGE!! I still wake up maybe once in the middle of the night but am sleeping within minutes (if that). I think there are also brands that sell time-released pills to help keep you asleep better as well.

And come to think of it, I had some severe back and neck pain as well. Not sure if its related. I always chalked it up to my horrible posture. For that, I''d recommend accupuncture. Everyone I know who has done it loves it (no personal experience myself).

Please let me know how it turns out! I know how grueling days become without good sleep.

PS-Scarlet is my sorority nickname...gives you a little idea about my personality!

I will ask about the melatonin...it is surely worth a try.

I get so tired I literally feel ill. I get migraines too, and fatigue is one of my triggers. I just cannot seem to get to sleep, and of course DH hits the pillow and is out like a light, snoring away (he SWEARS he does not) and I lie there, so upset that I cannot just be horizontal and sleep instantly.

No one can understand how miserable not sleeping can make you feel til they experience it.

There is a reason why sleep deprivation or continually waking someone is a form of torture and causes people to hallucinate and crack often. When I had my kids it was really bad too, and to this day I am adversely affected. My dream trip now is to go somewhere beautiful with a lovely bed and the sounds of the ocean and SLEEP, no phones, no kids, no nothing!

Are you a Southern Belle?

Oh I have the perfect place for your dream trip. We were in Cabo, Mexico in January for a wedding at the One & Only Palmilla. One day we noticed there was this bed set up right on the beach. It was AMAZING, and perfect for you! Literally inches from the water with waves crashing up unto your toes. The rooms aren't so shabby either. Most of them had beds on terraces that opened to the beach as well! Quite luxurious.

http://www.oneandonlyresorts.com/flash.html

And as to being a Southern belle, well only in spirit. In fact, I'm probably theoretically the farthest thing from a Southern belle. A true Yankee actually. Born to immigrant parents, raised in Jersey, went to college in NYC and never left. The "Scarlet" refers to my fire-y nature, passion, and brutal honesty (as described by my peers).

But enough about me...this thread is for you. Tell me, how much are you adoring that new AMAZING necklace of yours? And do we have pictures of all your other amazing treasures?

And...can I come along on your next shopping trip venture too? I don't know that I could afford anything but like I said I LOVE to live vicariously through people.

And boy does it seem like I have plenty to learn.

Diamond Fan,
Thank you for the Caroline aka DF dust!!! I am excited to study and to be off.

What a sweet hubby you have. Bet your boys are wonderful; just like their momma!! Do they play sports? I think if I had kids I would enjoy cheering them on.

My older son is on track and cross country, today is the first meet of the season. His coaches told hubby he is the fastest kid in middle school and likely to be a force to be reckoned with in HS so that is neat. He loves to ski. The swim coach said he is great too but he hates swimming so does not try too hard there. But he has natural ability. Guitar and music are his other passions.

My middle is more or less not into sports per say, but loves to ski and do acrocbatics on the slopes, like to swim and likes skateboarding. He loves computers and designing things, so architecture is a good bet for him.

The little one is trying soccer and likes to swim...no major skills so far!

Wow that is awesome. I bet you are proud of them. My sister was on track and cross country; I just remember the nights before a race they would have carb parties. It made me want to join in on all the spaghetti. LOL! How wonderful that your oldest is good at guitar.

My sister in law has the sweetest cutest boys and they love soccer. It is so cute to see them. In fact the little one got distracted during a game to chase a butterfly (he is only 5). heehee I think it is great your kids are in sports.

Isn''t funny to see kids creative like your middle one and know they will do something like architecture in the future. My hubby use to take apart all kinds of electronics when he was a kid and now does that sort of stuff for a living.

Thanks for sharing

DF I would certainly try the melatonin if there are no contraindications for you using it. It is not available in Australia but a number of my clients import if from the USA. It seems paticularly good for insomniacs who have trouble getting off to sleep. It not as affective for those who wake up a few hours later though

I think if I could get to sleep I would be fine, I don''t wake up as much as I cannot get to sleep at all...

My son came in second out of 40 or so kids, his best time, 5:32 for the mile...he was in the lead til the end but is not the best sprinter so the kid who had been behind him, letting my son take the wind for him, sprinted past and just beat him...but it was their first meet all season and I was so proud of him!
