Are Whiteflash ACA and Brian Gavin Signature diamonds comparable? I am considering a pendant and would like to get the best diamond for my money. I see many reviews for Whiteflash ACA but not many for Brian Gavin Signature. Would appreciate your expert opinions. Thank you. :)) :wavey:

OP
Prior to starting BGD, both Brian and Leslie worked for WF. It is my understanding that the ACA at Whiteflash was Brian's design. Perhaps others can say now what the differences are, but that is the history.
Personally, I bought from Leslie when she was at WF and also when she is at BGD. I have trusted her judgement and the results are have been outstanding. Others can weigh in.

Thank you Willydiamond - I appreciate your input. Very valuable information. :wavey:

One thing, since Brian has left WF their Expert Selection diamonds have included several flat out dogs. So stick to the ACA line if you are looking for BGD comparable quality.

Thank you Gypsy. I value your opinion and will stick with Whiteflash ACA. Glad you saw my post and replied. :wavey:

I will say that I believe Whiteflash has kept the ACA line within very strict parameters and they equal the very best H&A cut stones in the world. Expert Selection has never been perfect. You have to evaluate each stone individually, obviously, and there are some fantastic near ACAs in there. Some are ideal cuts like you'll find at every vendor who carries AGS Ideal cut stones and they will vary. My daughter has a WF Premium Select that is outstanding in every respect but just scored Ex instead of Ideal on polish!!! I have been buying from WF for many years, and while I had/have a lot of regard for BG, when he left WF I chose to stay with WF because I knew the vision of the company wasn't changing and I have confidence that I am getting a top quality product at a fair price. They even list their diamond cut parameters right on the site which few vendors do. When in the past I compared prices when looking for stones for others, WF had better prices for most stones I looked at as compared with BG and some other H&A vendors. WF also has a very unrestrictive upgrade policy that I have used more than once to upgrade my diamond studs as DSS settled in! I already had high regard for WF before my recent visit, but now that I have been there and have seen their entire operation and met the people there, I am even more impressed! So I guess you can say I am a very loyal WF fan!

Thank you Diamondseeker2006 - I very much value your opinion. I will stick with WF ACA. My near future purchases are a pendant and 2 ct total weight studs. Just need to decide when I will pull the trigger. I am assuming that as long as I purchase ACA there's no need to worry about the performance of the stones? No need to post here to gather opinions on performance, etc? Glad you saw my post and took the time to reply. Thank you. :wavey:

Queenie, that is very exciting!!! :wavey: :appl: Yes, I could buy an ACA blindfolded as long as it was the color, clarity, and size I wanted! No need to discuss performance at all. My studs are 1.15 cts each, and I absolutely love them! The only reason you might post here is to ask if we think the two stones are a close enough match (I am picky about that), but you'd have to put them on hold before doing that. But what I will tell you is that I like diameters to overlap or touch...like 6.50x6.53 and 6.52x6.56 or 6.50x6.53 and 6.54-6.55. And I buy table sizes within one percent of the other, 55.5-56.5, for example. And I only buy the same color grade for a pair, but I can match two different clarities if needed. I prefer VS2 for studs, but when I upgraded the closest match to the first stone (H VS2) was an H SI1 that was totally eyeclean. I ordered it and honestly can't even see the inclusions with my 10x loupe, so I kept it!

Let me know if you have other questions!

I wanted to chime in as I too am a loyal WF customer. I had a recent transaction last week with BGD on a setting (I supplied the stone, WF doesn't make that setting or I would of gone to WF) & it was a completely different service experience as compared to WF. Night & day. Still waiting for the promised contact today, & its 326p here. If the email/or call does indeed come today, I'll still feel the same.

You cannot go wrong AT ALL IMHO with a WF purchase, & their customer service is absolutely top notch, best of the best.

I don't think you can go wrong with either super ideal diamond vendors. I would go with whomever gets you the most bang for the buck based on what they have in stock right now.

I do have to confess that my last upgrade experience with BGD was good, but not the outstanding service that I used to receive when Denise was there.

Feel bad saying it - as both have excellent diamonds, but WF customer service is second to none ! Sometimes that can be a big thing - up to you. both have great diamonds

Thank you all for taking the time to reply - I appreciate your opinions and it confirms in my heart that I will purchase ACA from Whiteflash.

Diamondseeker2006 - Whiteflash has matching pairs which I have been looking at. Did you match your two stones yourself for earrings? Or did you go with their matching pairs? By reading your post, I have the impression that you matched them yourself? Look forward to your reply. Thank you for all of your help. :wavey:

I feel the need to weigh in a little more......Brian is the genius behind the ACA at WF. Now he starts his own company, don't you think his signature collection will be equal or maybe improved?
As I said earlier I had the pleasure to work with Leslie at WF and also the pleasure to work with her at BGD. Both top notch experiences. When I added the 6th stone to my wife's drop diamond pendant I went with BGD to finish the job. Both Leslie and Brian worked to match the right diamond, and they sure did. Overtime my wife wears the piece, she gets compliments and stares from people every time she wears it.
OP, do what you want, but don't count out BGD. You may want to also compare prices unless money is not an issue.
Again, best of luck.

Thank you WillyDiamond - I will certainly look at Brian Gavin. I appreciate your input.

Yes, I did match them myself. If you want to find me on LT, I will be happy to help you if you don't want to post the links here. Lurkers do sometimes buy stones listed, so I understand if you want to avoid that problem!

Thank you DS2006. Will let you know when I decide what I'm doing with this project. Deciding if I want H, I or J colored stones. I have a pair of J marquise earrings and they face up very white. I understand if I purchase well cut stones a J will face up quite white and I can save a few $$ by going with a J. I don't mind a bit of a tint in my diamonds. Will think about all options. Will seriously revisit this later next week. Off to Colorado on Friday to visit my daughter. Sorority events with mother's this weekend! Thank you for all of your input and help.

Awww, that sounds like fun! Enjoy your weekend!

For earrings I would do J/K hands down. Seriously. If you have marquise in J's that you like anything else is a flat waste of money, IMO.

It' can be hard for us as prosumers to put aside our personal preferences, and go with what is best for the person posting. So keep in mind YOUR preferences, not OURS when you are shopping.

Thank you Gypsy - very good advise. I have the J earrings and a right hand ring with a K marquise stone. Both are quite beautiful. I need to research both Brian Gavin and Whiteflash to see where I will purchase and also to decide exactly what to purchase. Will ponder this for a bit as I want to make a good decision. I appreciate everyones help with this. I want to make a good decision! Thank you.
