Where can I get a Blue Nile solitaire ring re-set?

Hello,
I'm in the process of getting my (lost) engagement ring replaced via Blue Nile. My insurance company has already paid them, so they're who I have to go with. I loved my previous ring, well the stone was gorgeous, the setting, only okay.
Anyway, I'm planning on getting the best stone I can get and a simple solitaire setting from Blue Nile and plan on getting it re-set in a nicer setting at a different Jeweller. What I"m wondering is, can you experts recommend some reputable jewellers to go with? I'm in Canada, but don't mind sending it to the US. This is all assuming a jeweler wouldn't mind taking a solitaire and re-setting it in one of their own settings?? I hope so... I haven't done too much research in the different settings, but so far, based on the bit I've read on the forums here, I like six prong solitaire settings.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd look at Brian Gaving Diamonds and Whiteflash, between them they have most of the major setting designers covered, as well as offering a gorgeous selection of in house options.

thank you so much, Gypsy! Can I just send them my entire ring and they'll take the stone out of the setting and put it into the new setting? By that I mean, I don't have to send them a loose diamond, do I?

No you don't. They can work with it already set. And actually that's easier because of insurance. You will need to get your diamond ring insured though.

You can do that through Jewelers Mutual. Or get a rider on your home/renters insurance. But if you go that route you need a rider, your regular policy will not cover it.

Why have they been paid if they haven't done the replacement yet? Are you sure of this? It's not the usual JM way.
Why are they the replacement company if they don't have what you want? Again, this is not the usual way JM does things.
It just seems off. Why would JM require you to buy a ring that you don't want?

Aside from that, it is going to be complicated sending that ring back to the US to be set because of the tax issues. I would certainly try to have a Canadian jeweler set it for you. Surely if there is a large city near you, there would be a jeweler who would carry some US branded settings? And if not, that stone needs to be sent to the US vendor who is setting the stone before it comes to you in Canada. Which goes back to Neil's question, why are you using BN if they don't have the setting you want? Sooo much easier to choose a vendor that does have a setting you like. And it seems like you should have decided on the diamond prior to them sending money to BN.

Aside from the references Gypsy gave you, several of us here have the Vatche U-113 setting which is like the Tiffany knife edge 6 prong solitaire if you do have it set in the US.

Great advice offered, if you are in Toronto I can recommend a great setter, $40-60. Also please try to avoid importing a finished ring, it would be a shame if they assessed you the HST on the full value of the ring. If you decide on both a ring and a diamond form the US have them sent separately and unset, that way you will pay 5% on the diamond and 13% on the setting. Assuming the diamond is the more valuable of the two this should save you a considerable sum. If you are in Alberta you only pay 5% regardless of whether the diamond is set or not, in which case my advice wont help.

I too am curious as to why the insurer made you go with Bluenile, that is definitely worth a call and an inquiry.
