what''s the lowest you''d go in terms of color?

If you searched here on PS you would find lots of threads about this topic.

It depends on the shape of the diamond, the cut, etc. for me. In a round ideal cut, I would go down to a J or K most likely.

I''m color sensitive so...

I have an F and I love it. I wouldn''t ge below G for a step cut, personally. I''d go down to an I in a super ideal round-- J if it were earrings or pendant. For anything else-- like a cushion or oval I''d probably still [refer to stick to G but would definitely consider a nice H.
 
There are lots of threads on this already (you can do a search), but I think you''ll find that everyone has a different level of tolerance when it comes to color. Some won''t go below an F while some can easily go as far down as K. It all depends on what your eyes perceive and how much a bit of color bothers you. A well cut round will mask color better than an emerald cut or asscher, so it also depends on what kind of cut you''re talking about. In general, though, I think it''s wise to go around to different jewelry stores and look at different color stones. You''ll get a much better sense of what YOU prefer and how much color YOU can tolerate.

i tried a couple searches and timed out too. i think you have to be pretty specific in the wording because just typing in *color* or something may be to big of a search. anyway, there was a recent thread on the topic that got a little crazy but a bunch of people chimmed in with their thoughts and opinions. you can read it Here. happy reading..
 
 
For a diamond that''s supposed to be white, H or I, because if it isn''t sitting next to a "D" color, I can''t tell there is any tint.

But I _love_ canaries, so I guess I would go as low as "Z."

While I''d honestly prefer F or G, a high H would be as low as I''d go.
 
Many people love the warmer colors, so long as it is not a dingy yellowish brownish type color. In a well cut stone the lower colors can be VERY pleasing, and with some skin tones actually look better than a D on that person.

there are tons of threads on this one...

but for me how low depends on the stone and the setting and what its'' for. i''d probably not want to go too low on a ring stone...but for a pendant i would go lower, and earrings.

i thought about going K for my ring but none really came up while i was looking, so i went with J which is a fabulous area for me.. i love my J. sure it shows a little color from the side sometimes...but it''s pretty rare that i really see it. top down it''s always white white white unless i am in yellowish lighting. but i think a K in this size or larger probably wouldn''t work for me...unless it was a very strictly graded K aka borderline J and with some med blue or strong blue fluor.

but for pendant or earrings i would totally go to K and maybe even L depending on the setting and the stone and who graded it and also size. i''d hands down consider something like a .50 H&A L stone for a pendant or something. it all dpeneds on the stone, the project, and where it will be worn!
 
Until I found pricescope my answer would have been F but now I''d definitely go H and possibly I/J if in an ideal cut round. It just depends on how color sensitive you are.

-don''t do searches with just "color" because it''s too many results and will time out


-don''t do searches with individual color grades (D, J, L, etc...) it retrieves any post with this letter ... WAY too many : )


-I was looking for a few threads people have started named "I''ve fallen in love with a J, or I, or L, etc...) but didn''t have any luck with those... They''re great threads devoted to these specific colored stones... awesome to look at!

Hi! If I''m getting a regular solitaire, I wouldn''t go below a ''G'', but if I ever have a chance to get an old original Asscher, I would get it regardless of color.

definitely take a look at some ideal cut (H&As preferably) stones and compare them to see what your color sensitivity is. Everyone's different and honestly a lot of people think they have a certain tolerance but it changes once they compare wonderfully cut stones-- makes a world of difference.

I used to have preconceived notions based on 'normal' stones until I compared some Tiffany diamonds, Hearts on Fire diamonds, and finally H&A diamonds -- I went from a G as a minimum to I color and possibly really white J's like some of the PSers have on here.

Tiffany's carry I color and up and I believe Cartier's do the same and Jared's stores carries Hearts on Fire stones so take a look at any of those if you have any of those stores nearby or any other stores who carry comparable stones to see if YOU can tell a difference.

I never thought that I would go below H in color, but my jeweler had a J Hearts on Fire diamond and it was amazing! I would certainly consider going as low as J now in a round stone, especially for a pendant or earrings. A well cut diamond really does make a difference.
 
I own one "H", one "I", and two "J"s. LOVE them all, but the "J"s were the best deal and most bang for my buck!

When you get into the "I-J" range you have to evaluate very carefully as there are big differences in color that still make this range. One "J" can look as white as an "H" while another "J" will look more yellow.

As a matter of fact, my three stone ring has an "H" center and two "J" sides. I cannot tell the difference between them, so I figure I got a low "H" and high "J"s so they averaged out to a solid "I".

I could not go below on F. Anything lower makes me paranoid and I would constanly look for the slightest tint of yellow.
 
In an antique style setting, with an antique style cut ... I''d go to K or even L/M depending on the cut & tint color (grey or pink or champagne vs. yellow) & flor ... if it has medium to strong flor ... hides color.

In a modern setting, most cuts I''d consider H''s & I''s

With in Ideal Cut round brilliant ... I''d go "J" -- especially in a pendant. Maybe K - have to see the stone to decide.

Overall, I prefer some warmth & the value of these stones. Icy, icy white bugs me on myself -- gorgeous on other people! Probably a skin tone thing!
 
I have a J and love it! It''s whiter that all of the Maul store rings and twice as sparkly, even when it''s dirty!

There have been some beautiful K''s latey (which is what a lot of maul stores seem to carry) and I think I could definitely go for one!
 
Cut is the answer. A too shallow or too deep diamond will look nothing like an ideal cut one, of the same color.

As others have said, it''s strictly personal preference and color sensitivity. I wouldn''t go below a G in a ring. Earrings or pendant, different story. However, I also really like light lemon yellow stones.

This is a tough one...until about 4 weeks ago, I was a "G" or higher kinda girl. While shopping for my upgrade, I got to see a very well cut "J" and WOW. I bought it and love it.

Prior to surfing PS I would never have considered a "J", but, boy, I am glad that I did.

I have always been really color sensitive, but I really love the warmth. It''s not yellow, just glows a little warmth in certain lighting conditions.

Lotta bang for the buck in "J" territory!
