What am I missing with this pear? Graded incorrectly?

Do both just mean do the invisible bail? With two loops on the back of the bezel that the stone runs freely through?

The invisible bail can be made such that you achieve the drop look that is so pretty for a pear. It would be at the very tip of the point.

I see what your saying. That's what you mean by double bezel? Again, sorry, my setting knowledge isn't very good! The Tiffany style you think would just flip to much if it were fixed to the chain?

By "double bezel", I imagine a thin bezel around the pear with two rows of milgrain... kinda like this ring. It has two delicate rows of milgrain, adding heft in the metal, but doesn't look "heavy"... If that's not what she meant, then I'm not sure I understand. milgrain_1.jpg

If the pendant is fixed on the chain, it will never hang in the middle without her constantly having to adjust it. I had one like that, and it drove me crazy (hence changing to the invisible bail).

Ohhhh. I see what you mean. So there's no way to have a very elegant bail (low key like the tiffany one) and have it sliding? Would that help it stay facing forward?

You'd need to add weight on the backside (basket) to help anchor it.

Well I went to jewellers and discussed the details on the pendant with him. I decided to go with the Tiffany style, .9 mm high polish bezel with the very descrete bail (I think she'll like the look a bit better with a bail). the pendant won't be fixed to the chain but won't be able to come past the guard either, just move to level itself out. He is going to anchor the bottom of the pendant at the back of the bezel as well.

Thanks gypsy and mop for all your help and for answering my questions (and picking out then stone!) I will make sure to post pictures when it's done. I bring him the diamond Monday and he figured 3-4 days he can have it finished.

Got the diamond today... Looks awesome and sparkles gorgeously. What I like about this pear is the bow tie is literally not noticeable whatsoever. Looks fantastic. I tried taking some pics, but was in a rush to get it to my jeweler by 5:30. I want it done for Friday and wanted him to take his time.

Thanks to the both of you again, I am very happy with the stone. I will post pics as soon as I get it back.

Yes, it looks even and the bail is not too big!

I'll add that the cost for the setting and the work was 400 CAD. So roughly 275 usd.

Never had work done by this guy, but I've heard good things and it's a family owned jewelry store. His old man would have sold my grandmas ring to my grandpa after World War One, so it was sorta nice to give the new generation the business.

I'm happy it's a quality stone that's for sure. I would never be able to spot good vs bad pears. But I'm not gonna lie, you picked the stone and setting gypsy! I really just ended up defering to your expertise. So again, thank you for taking the time to look at the stones for me.
