Want to reset my diamond

I have been a lurker for quite some time and I know that this is the right place for advice! So, please advise!

I have had my wedding ring for almost 16 years. The engagement ring is a 6mm yellow gold flat band and the wedding band is a 1/2 ct channel set ring that fits flush next to my engagement ring. I have had them soldered together until August when I had them split apart and rhodium dipped.

My diamond is 1.03 ct, vs2, d color. I am super sentimental and I am attached to my set. However, I would like to have my diamond reset into either a new head with some bling, or have it completely reset into something new and have my engagement band polished and wear it alone or with the new setting.

I was told by the jeweler that split and dipped my rings that my diamond is set in a head that is too small. The head is tall so it sits quite high off of my hand. I really kind of like that but I am open to change. They told me that the diamond is too tight in the head and it would look larger in a different head. It is a 4 prong platinum peg.I'm not sure about a halo.....

So, suggestions??? You all have beautiful taste so I value you input and I look forward to your ideas!

I really like pave but I'm honestly not sure about a halo. I am afraid that it will be too trendy...... and I would prefer to wear my engagement ring with my wedding band. I can always have milgrain added to the channel set and beads set in between the diamonds to look more like pave. Am I off base being concerned that a halo is trendy?

Do you think there is a way to maintain the diamond on the flat band? If not, no worries..... but I am attached to both bands.

OP - I really like how your wedding set looks on your finger - for that reason, I would suggest keeping your ER band and just changing out the head - and to add bling perhaps pick up two narrow pave or single-shared-prong bands to put on either side of the ER? On the days you wear the narrow diamond bands either move the channel-set band to your other hand or leave it in your jewelry box? Unless you would be amenable to re-setting the channel-set band into two slim half-eternity-style bands?

For your ER, maybe go with this crown style head - http://www.stuller.com/products/24805/2789100/?groupId=101024 - or this round-patterned head - http://www.stuller.com/products/20915/253553/?groupId=11264 - or this 6-prong head - http://www.stuller.com/products/20604/135259/?groupId=11025

Your jeweler could add some milgraining or perhaps just bevel the edges of the ER band to add interest and shine - hopefully to match up with whatever you decide with the wedding band.

That 6-prong medium solstice (3rd link), posted by marymm above, would probably give your diamond the elevation it needs on your engagement band, and then, if you're willing, add tiny diamonds in a pattern on the band (not a pavé). Something like this? I saw this on Polyvore and thought it might apply to your ER? http://ak2.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-thing/size/l/tid/88742960.jpg

Since you have a larger diamond for a center stone, perhaps there could be less diamonds on the band than in the link I shared.

(I checked the guidelines for RockyTalk because I wasn't sure if newbies were allowed to post links. I didn't see any policy regarding it. I hope this is okay.)

I don't post here very often (I hang out on Colored Stones mostly), but I too am considering a reset for my 1.5 ct RBC to wear as a RHR until my daughter needs it for her ER (as promised). So far this is my absolute favorite:

Scroll way down and look at all of the pictures. It's a round diamond in a cushion halo. I'm not usually a halo fan, but this one blows me away. And so what if it's trendy. That gives you an excuse to reset it in 15 years when you want another change. ;-)
