Not to highjack - I am! If you have any vendors you recommend!

Sure! Just to double check, where are you based? I live in China, so I mostly work with Asian vendors.

Two vendors.

Tim at Inorogems .26ct benetoite
His shot

Mine, diffuse sunlight indoors, much more intense color which is what I want in a benitoite

I can't capture the color perfectly but these are the most intense deep blue benitoite ever. Incredible sparkle too.

I'd say inorogem is true to life if not better in person.

The Gen Trader as always is pretty representative but again better in real life.

I recently got a tsavorite trillion from Yvonne Raley, and I quite literally gasped when it arrived. It somehow manages to be the most deep beautiful green while still being incredibly bright.

also...it is quite impossible to photograph.

This is my best at-home attempt. In real life the color is a deeper intensely saturated green, with the brighter areas seeming positively neon. I assure you. It looks better than the picture (and the picture still looks pretty great).

This is Yvonne’s best photo from the listing. It came across here slightly yellower than it was in reality.

And from one of Yvonne’s video. Looking a bit underwhelming.

Green stones. Literally impossible to photograph? I’m kind of grateful, because the trillion had been in her store for a bit, and I chose to trust her recommendation on how beautiful it was in real life. And now it’s mineeeee and no one else’s :D

I love cabs- These are lovely! Are these your photos?
Can you also include the vendors photos if you bought them remotely?

I understand the whole debate about phone cameras and photoshopping and white balance.....
And understand environmental lighting changes a while lot
But seeing the personal vs vendor photos plus the personal eye verbal description is an all time favorite of mine to see here!

Agreed, this is quite literally the most helpful post on my CS journey. And it is interesting that some vendors regularly exceed their photos. I am always confident buying from them.

Sorry, I don't have any vendors photos(bought all of these on Etsy). But I took another shot of the same gems with my camera--- with a few extra cabs thrown in. IMG_20200619_214227_576.jpg

@dk168 @LilAlex this has been the purchase that turned me off to buying from Jeff Davies. I quite like the Rose de France amethyst @Ra2nl posted above, but this Mahenge spinel he sold me looks even worse than a garnet. I understand the point that Gene at Precision Gem has made before about how the vendor's pictures are real life pictures, too, but try as I might in 7-8 lighting situations I've taken this stone to, there's no way I can make the stone appear as vibrant as the vendor pictures. I do not expect what I see to be exactly like the vendor picture, but do you think you can tell this is the same stone given the vendor picture and my pictures? I don't think the actual stone even remotely resembles the color it shows in the vendor picture. Either JD has the most magical shop lights ever, or like @LilAlex said, something has been done to doctor the photo. I think most PS members will understand why I was disappointed.

Oh wow that stone looks nothing like his picture,i'm sorry!
I understand color can be a bit different but your stone is really dark. Can you return the stone?
My stone is not as vibrant as his picture but I'm still satify because in sun light it sparkles so beautiful.

I received the stone in early March, around the time when coronavirus in the US was breaking news and I had already started to self-isolate, not going out unless I had to. Given the fact that the stone was from the UK and would likely need custom papers and experience skipping delays, I decided to forego the $300 I was out, instead of taking the risk for a return. Plus, I was mad when I received it and saw it was a far cry from the vendor picture, so it was much easier for me to stuff the stone in a drawer and forget about it than fret about going to the post office and filling out customs forms to return it. It is past the return window now.

Pakistan Peridot cut by Jeff White supacpackperi.png

@autumngems Is there any chance you could post a real life picture of this, along with your thoughts? Peridot is one of my children’s birthstones and I’d love one for a pendant but have never found one I like - the ones I’ve seen seem to come across as a slightly yellow, almost radioactive, green colour that doesn’t appeal. This looks vibrant, fresh and lovely!

Oh no, it wasn't you at all! It was @dk168 and @LilAlex discussing Jeff Davies as a vendor in a thread where someone in the UK was looking for a blue sapphire. And because of my experience with the posted gem I happened to agree with one of them and not the other.
