Vendor pictures and owner pictures of PS stones

Burmese spinels (marketed as jedis) from DesertRose. The smaller one has nice color! But the larger one is quite dark under direct daylight tho. Also, much more inclusions in irl than in pics and descriptions.

I definitely like the smaller one best. Very nice glow in direct sunlight!

Yeah, the issue is that I was told both were top neon material, and the larger one is very dark under the sun and not jedi. Not to mention I was quoted "minor inclusions", but both had visible surface dents and large fractures in the rock, which is crazy given the price/carat I was charged.

Glad others had a positive experience tho.

I can see why you are unhappy with the larger one based on the photos of vendor vs irl. Have you reached out to the vendor?

I have and showed multiple pictures under different sunlight conditions (another pic made the stone look even worse tbh, a muddy brown). I was told basically I can't tell red and purple colors apart and to put the larger stone in a diamond halo, which really speaks to how dark the stone is --- I've seen jewelers turn ugly rocks into beautiful rings and know the tricks available. She insisted that her descriptions were accurate and dodged all questions regarding the specific inclusions that I brought up multiple times.

You can't see it in the vendor pictures and videos, but irl it's very obvious the large one has a large fracture that covers at least 1/4 of the stone and close to the surface. The small one has several surface dents and a chipped corner.

It was been a very frustrating experience, esp. since I've purchased another gem (which I was happy with) from her before so trusted her descriptions and eye for color.

If I did not see this with my own eyes, I would not have believed it possible a vendor could get a brown, dank, dark, included stone to look that good in a picture. I hate that this happened to you. And to not disclose chips and fissures?? Unforgiveable. Not someone I would buy from based on your experience. Thanks for sharing this.
 
My Brazilian amethysts from Jeff Davies! For sure his pictures are lighter, but the color flashes are all there. My best picture of them was at night under LED light. I am happy with my purchase.

I'm sure glad I got it before all this tariff business as I am in the US and it came from the UK! I have pendant plans. Trying to decide if platinum or rose gold would be better.
 
Adding few more photos of gems from MasterCut. As others I too find their hand photos to represent color accurately. I kept the website header in the screenshots to make it easier to tell which photos are theirs. The color correction iPhone does is really unhelpful in my own photos. I bought a spessarite from Mastercut Gems and finally got it set in a signet for everyday wear. Of course, it is hard to take pictures of your hands. This blurry brick wall photo captures it well. It performs beautifully.

It is beautiful, i think the one i posted above is either a sibling or cousin of your stone.
I really like your ring design, i was thinking along the same lines for my spess from Dana but i was worried that bezel will negatively impact how the garnet performs. In your photos it doesn’t seem to have had negative impact on your spess.

It honestly does not have a big impact! I attribute this to light entering from the top of the stone (and having mostly shiny gold around it). Before joining Pricescope I did not have any specially cut stones, and the difference a skilled lapidary makes is really remarkable.

Of course, it is always worth trying the foil trick to see how you like it.
