My first gem

Pink Spinel from Gemfix. Vendor picture shows the colour a lot better than I have been able capture, as I've picked up way more lilac than what I see IRL 99% of the time.

In fact, the flour pic shows the RL colour the best as the outside pics had direct bright sunlight and inside pic had indirect bright sunlight, which has picked up the flash of lilac it sometime shows!

2.25ct - 8.7 x 6.7mm oval Portuguese cut

Gary's picture is lighter then what I see most of the time. It sparkles like a crazy thing though so I couldn't part with it

Some of the purchases I've made these few months.

In general I find all the vendors' photos are close to what I see IRL.







That's all for now. I'm currently waiting a parcel from Dana and another from Bob Kast.
I bought some stones from Bob Kast earlier but forgot to save his photos and he has removed them from his listing, so I can't compare them here. Will try to post the next purchase instead

My Gary Braun garnet was a huge disappointment. I kind of had a feeling it would be. Anything that's a "new release" that isn't snatched up immediately usually has something wrong with it.

You know, athena, that really is a nice garnet, and such a pretty cut ....
I am thinking that garnets are kind of an acquired taste?
They don't look good in all lighting, at least mine don't.
In fact, the first red garnet I EVER bought, I put in my back drawer
until just recently.
I had recently bought a few others, (mostly because of the vendor pics, I admit)
and they have REALLY grown on me.
I took my first one out a few weeks ago, and now I LOVE it !!!!
There just seems to be certain lighting that they don't look that nice in.
Put them under a different light, and WOWOWOWOW

Why don't you start a thread on your garnet and see what ppl think too?
Keeping in mind, of course, that if YOU don't love it, back it goes !!!!!

eta: I wavered about buying that garnet myself, actually !!!
In the end I bought Gene Winza Sapphire (another gem that seems to have it's color-sweet-spot !!!)

camera not capturing color very well. IRL its a golden yellow color.
They dance in any light. Very scintillating!
