I haven’t been on PS in a looong time (since last year) and thought I would share some results with you all. I’ve been super busy with work, friends having babies, and family driving me nuts (as always). Also my husband is defending his thesis soon, so we’re trying to decide where to move in the fall. I’m hoping for CA

. With so much that’s unsettled for me now, I’m quite relieved and VERY excited to see my purple spinel project complete ...

wow! what a color! Your ring is absolutely gorgeous! I''m not familiar with spinel, and now I''m off to find out more about it!

beautiful color! Can we see close-ups?

LIB, your new ring is gorgeous!! I love it. Thanks for sharing the pic, we must see more!!!!!!!!

It''s beautiful, but I''m pretty sure it''s a pricescope rule that there must be many pictures posted, especially close ups!

Thanks tlh, Tacori, oranges, musey, kismet, D&T! Sorry, just got a stampede of phone calls after my first pic. How have you all been?

Oranges - You can see pics of the unset stone here. Spinel comes in a variety of colors, is generally not enhanced by heat or other processes, and is a good gem for rings because it's hard (8.0 on the mohs scale). Spinel is usually sparkly too, particularly if it's well-cut.

If you don't get to the stone thread, the spinel is 2.15 ct and described as "a very slightly reddish-lavender cushion cut from the bejewelled land of Ceylon." Here's a pic, more sparkly than sleepy this time

I'm so pleased with the prongs this time, thanks Geckodani!

This is actually a reset - The first setting was a “448 Special” by Van Craeynest. It was pierced 18K antiqued yellow gold with a platinum head. This ring was beautifully made and the tiny flowers on the sides were an absolute delight. This setting was very chunky though; a bit too hefty for my fingers. Also, if you take a look at the pics in my other thread, you can see the prongs were monstrous! old setting
