urg I'm driving myself Mad with diff in rose gold! Help?

Hey guys!
I have never actually been able to 'see' the difference between 18k rose gold and 14k rose gold. I have looked around the forums using the search tool (I think I once read somewhere that its not as 'good' as it used to be??)
Anyways, I found alot of ppl asking about the diff and I even had the pleasure of seeing a few beautiful rings with rose gold.

I know the general response is "Go and see for yourself"...unfort I am living in a not so errr well developed country and don't have the luxuary to go and physically see the difference.
So today I went on a Rose Gold Internet mission.

Boy there is alot of ill defined and tagged stuff out there esp being a newbie it was difficult to suss it all out.

PLEASE please please can the ladies who actually have the 18k rose gold and the 14k rose gold, put them on your beautiful hands and take a few real life snapshots!

I'm going loopy trying to see the more red and the more yellow tinge (14k and 18k respectively).

This is a great idea! I've done similar internet searches myself but never come up with a conclusion... It might be worth asking for this port to be moved to Rocky Talky though because I don't think many people visit this forum.

I've been told by BGD that they recommend 14k rose gold because it has a deeper rose color. 18k has more yellow gold in it, thus giving it a lighter rose color. Just what I've been told.

Ok so this morning I decided I was going to be a total an utter nerd and literally pull off the colours off the images I was able to find yesterday. So off I zoom to my ColourSchemer (BEST program eva! http://www.colorschemer.com/studio_info.php)
You can literally just drag any image onto and voila!

So this is what my dorkiness was able to achieve for me:
(Sorry I only have paint and it seems to really suck the life out of graphics when I load it up here, and it seems to come out really small...blegh... I think if you right click and then click view image it might be better - but if anyone can help with better image quality then plz holla, I'm all ears )




then here I did a little visual representation that worked in my brain, and you're right Upgradable! The 18k is actually more yellow, you can see it! But man oh man do you have to look carefully. I had to look at it, then turn my head away and then look at it again *repeat*






I think we are finally getting somewhere!! Whoop! Whoop!

And youre right yiska, I thought about putting it there but its not about diamonds so I wasn't sure what to do

Alloys is a huge can of worms. Even in the same karatage, different alloys can have different colours. When we say, for example, 14k gold, we are saying that 50% of the weight is gold, but the other 50% is distributed between silver, copper and other metals. If there is more silver, the 14kt gold will be less pink/red, if there is more copper, it will be redder.

Then, we have cameras and environment. Different cameras pick up colours differently and different people will use different lights. Summing up, comparing pictures by different people can be very misleading. I suggest you ask the vendor you are considering to send you pictures of their 14 and 18k alloys side by side (with some yellow gold for comparison as well).

Yep! Thats exactly why I'm trying to get ladies who have both the 18k and the 14k to be able to take a pic with it together.
Just to get a sorta domain/range going.
Also I think ppl's skin tone makes a difference to the colour that shows IRL to the nakid eye.
Thank you for your advice, I will ask if the current vendor I'm hoping to get some bands made, if they can take a pic of the two golds side by side.
Actually an interesting thing came up too, was that if you do a satin aka matt finish, it seems to show the colour up a bit more

They do all their bands in rose as an option.
She wrote me this recently:

I checked it out with Peter and took a good look at the two metals myself and have to agree that the 18K Rose gold is a pinker, softer color than the 14K.

The changes in color in different lights, cameras and computer screens may make the whole thing inaccurate. Personally I have trouble telling the difference in reality and Peter made me promise not to mix them up!

I included my 22k band in one of the photos to give some reference and I moved them around to try to get the light to shine on them differently. The 14K is the smaller radius curve in each of them, so it always sits on the inside of the 18K."
