Pelosi: "No, you will wait until the shut down is over."

You know, I personally dislike these threads where we posit as one person got this over on another person. I don't care if it's a Democrat over a Republican or vice versa. It's NOT helpful. Rather than doing what is right, and working together, it pits people against each other and the focus is on "winning", sometimes winning at all costs. NO ONE is winning right now. The American people will continue to be "not winning" until this country can come together enough to pass a budget.
 
I feel that Nancy Pelosi is willing to work with Trump as soon as he becomes reasonable. The wall is unreasonable. He is keeping 800,000 people unpaid for a campaign promise that he was unable to keep. This is unreasonable and criminal. What other company is able to have people work without pay?

I’m cheering for Nancy Pelosi all of the way. She’s the one high profile person who isn’t cowtowing to Trump’s every childish whim. Trump is throwing his tantrums and he’s losing..finally...thank God.

For that...I love the woman. I needed to watch him lose. I needed this since election night 2016.

I agree. But the media needs to sensationalize everything so they can get their clicks. This is an awful time to be playing this game though.

This. It's what I was hoping (praying?) the republicans would do. I am a registered democrat but in the past I've voted for the person, not the party. I wish the (sane) republicans would take back the GOP.

IMO, All the lawmakers shouldn't receive a paycheck till they pass a bill to open the government. Yup, Pelosi is being very generous by offering $1 for the wall. Unlike Trump she doesn't even try to compromise. I think her hands are tie by all the far left Dems.

I have really been enjoying your contributions to recent threads, partgypsy. I have found several of them to be unusually thoughtful and compelling. I have to disagree with you on this one, however.

I find Trump and the Republicans who support him to be such a danger to the Constitution; the rule of law; and the separation of powers that I think it is in the best interests of our country to fight them when they attempt to take more and more power and take more and more people (in this case federal workers) hostage. I do not think it is in the best interests of Democrats to appease Trump and Mitch McConnell and allow them ever to take the government hostage again. If Trump feels he can get his way by shutting down the government , he will do it each times he wants his way. That is not living under rule by law. Therefore we need a Nancy Pelosi to say "no" to him.

I want Nancy Pelosi to best Trump to regain the separation of powers this country needs and that The Founding Fathers intended.

Now is up to the Dems. to try compromising with Trump. This time Pelosi will probably offer $2 for the wall.
 
What I mean is the level of discourse, emotion versus logic. Personalities versus topics. All it took was Ann Coulter to make a tweet, for Trump to decide to hold the federal government hostage, indefinitely (or in this case for the longest government shut down in history) for his wall. We are not living in rational times and we don't need schoolyard taunting and escalation of emotion but cool heads. I'm honestly looking forward to when watching cspan is the most boring thing on television again.
