Thoughts on this Spinel?

If the color is as it is shown in the video, I think it is rather pretty. I also like the chunky heart shape. How would you set it?

It's very pretty. It does have some orange, is that okay with you?

the color is ok with me. It wont be at saturated as I think one would like. But the surface quality is concerning me. in the still photo the three facets that are reflecting appear to be pock-marked. Looking into the stone it appears finely active, possibly many tiny bubbles, or roiling like the haze of a hessonite. I would want to ask about that, ask for more photos.

I agree that there appears to be some pitting on the surface. I could be wrong, but at that price I'd expect a very nice finish on the stone. Otherwise, I think it's lovely.

More of an orangy red.

I put together a comparison video montage for you.

The bottom of the photo is the heart shaped stone on the side and from the table, and you can see the orange more evident through the pavillion. On the top left is an AIGS designated "pinkish red" cushion and a pinkish red trillion spinel on the top right through the pavillion. I don't have the side view of my cushion anymore as I didn't save off the video, so I inserted the side of the trillion instead. It's really helpful to look through the pavillion while the gem is turning.

I hope it's more evident after seeing this comparison. If you like orangy pink or orangy red, than I think it's a nice stone, and I would make an offer on it (don't pay full price if you don't have too).

Thank you all for your input. I think I don't mind the orange. And thank you TL for the comparison shot, I didn't really see it until you put that together.

Interesting that the static picture shows a reddish pink/pinkish red but the video shows an orangish red. Any news about the "pitting" seen on the crown area

I asked about the pitting. No response yet.

They say there is no pitting IRL and are supposed to send pictures that proof that.

Thoughts?

It appears slightly sleepy and I think it's more of a a pinkish orange.

Is this the first heart spinel? Without knowing the lighting condition, all I can say is that I detect an orange undertone to it. Perhaps it'll appear more pinkish red outdoors under UV lighting?

Oddly enough, I like it with its sleepy-ness and color, BUT I think it is far too overpriced for what it is.

I believe he takes offers, correct? If so, then there's no harm is making an offer that you feel is reasonable for the spinel.

That's why I originally told you to not pay his full BIN price and make an offer. It's pretty, but I'm thinking it's too much money for what it is. However, who knows, maybe in a few years people will willingly pay these prices for material this grade. I guess in the end, it's what you think of it, and the price you're willing to pay. I agree, it is a pretty stone.

What do you think would be a BIN he would accept? How much would you offer?

I would offer around $500/ct or I think $1200 is a good number, express S&H included. I don't think that stone should be over $500/ct. He wants $800/ct. I would tell him it's got a bit of orange in it, and it's slightly sleepy.

Now, what he will accept, may be higher. He may come back and tell you $1600, which is what I suspect, but I think it's worth a shot to at least negotiate, especially if you have your heart set on this heart ;)) .

Yes, this is the first one.
