Thoughts on stone that does not have ideal proportions

@nala I saw that you have a lot of threads and didn’t know which one it was! Let me know and I’ll read it :)

It's anyone's guess if you'd be able to tell a difference. Your stone's proportions are just outside ideal so they are close. It's not like the PA is 41.6. Check out some other GIA 3X PA's and you'll be surprised. You can buy an ASET and look at the light performance for yourself. You can also look at an ideal cut RB and compare it to yours and see if you see any discernible difference. If you're considering finding one the better angles, then it may be worth doing it just to give yourself peace of mind that either you can't tell a difference or that you can. My honest thought is that if you can tell a difference it will be more 'personality' of the stone with your stone's angles vs it is not bright, sparkly, brilliant, fiery, etc.

FYI, there is a veteran PSer who is a cut nut and specifically chose a stone with proportions similar to yours because she likes the way the proportions look. I'll see if I can find them.

Found them! Her stone has a crown angle of 36.5 and a pavilion angle of 40.6. I'll link her thread on the ring which is absolutely stunning, both stone and setting.
56/62.9, 36.5/40.6, LGF 75

Lol. Titles are A chance at a redo and Analysis Paralysis. I went thru with the change. Went from a 5.6 hca to a 1.4 with a much better idealscope. And I have no regrets! My new ring is not super ideal bc That would have been cost prohibitive. But this was as close as I could get within my price range. I no longer doubt my ring’s performance. Biggest change for me has been noticing the rainbows and the lights that it throws. Prior to that, my other stone didn’t do that with as much intensity

I’m such a diamond amateur that my opinion isn’t worth much. Lol!
But what I can tell you is, the percentage of people that have amazing, huge, brilliant, perfect stones, is a pretty small one. I have yet to meet someone (and I’m almost 40) that has stones like those seen here on PS.
If I were to wear a stone like yours, I’d be constantly asked if it was real. Lol!
Personally, I’d say you have an incredible stone. I’d be lucky to ever have anything like it, or most of those on PS.
That said, I know how you feel, and I know how things can change. There’s been days I’ve loved my stones, and others not so much. But, don’t let what you’ve learned since getting your stone, take away from the things you do love about it, and what made you choose it in the first place.
I think it’s amazing and you have good reason to be very proud of your stone. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice! It’s good to know that I can’t expect the ring to sparkle under all types of lighting. I took @Karl_K advice and looked for the brightness and contrast in my office lighting today. I feel like the stone looks pretty dark here and I don’t really see any brightness :(, although I do see the flashes of sparkle/fire when it catches some light. I do not clean the ring everyday and will start doing so to see if that helps the brightness under office lighting. Do you all think this looks normal? Also this is the first diamond I’ve ever owned, so I don’t have much to compare against, which is why all your opinions are especially helpful!

It is SO beautiful! WOW!!

Thanks everyone for all your advice!!! Wanted to give an update on my decision. I went and looked at stones in person, both GIA triple Ex with "ideal" proportions and also super ideal H&A stones. To be honest, I couldn't tell much of a difference. I actually liked the way my current stone sparkles...it was the type of flashes (maybe larger/bolder?) that were just very slightly different and I don't think I would be able to tell if I didn't look so carefully. I think looking at all these stones and not seeing a noticeable difference gave me peace of mind and helped me realize that I really do love my stone. But then again, I am a newbie at this :) Anyway, I've decided to keep my current stone! I will be looking for a new eternity band though! And might start a different thread on best vendor for eternity bands after I search around the current threads.

@JDDN I also read through the thread that you linked. Thank you so so much for it! It's really great to hear a different take on stone proportions :) I absolutely LOVE Yssie's stone, and also love that my ring has almost the exact same proportions...though I wish I could have splurged for a stone as massive as hers!!!

I think your stone is smashing Jello, it's stunning and good for you for keeping it! Not all steep deep angle combos are disasters by any stretch of the imagination and there are other factors that can 'save' the stone from the dreaded leakage and yours looks amazing!

It sounds like you have peace of mind that your stone performs beautifully! I'm really happy for you, your ring is truly so beautiful!

Thanks everyone! All your advice has helped give me peace of mind and I’m loving my stone now :) hopefully I’ll be able to upgrade to something larger in a few years, and will definitely enlist your help with the search!
