Home The Official TTC Thread!

Hi all,

BFN this am and a temp drop...
15.gif

Good luck to everyone else who''s testing. Fx for all of you!

My next door neighbour has just popped round with chocolate for watering her plants while she and her husband were away on holiday - and to tell us that she''s 8 weeks pg and got KTFU the first month. She was really worried it would take them ages as she''s 37, so she went and had accupuncture 3 days before O.

I now have the name of her accupuncturist!

She wants me to get pg as soon as possible - then we can go halves on child care!

Um, could everyone keep their fingers crossed for me please.

I just did a test for the hell of it - and I THINK there is a line. It''s thick and in the right place, and very, very faint. My tests are sensitive to 10 whatever you call thems.

I''m 11DPO today so still early.

I got DH to look at it too - he thought he saw something and then made me go and get one of the old ones to test it against. Then he said yes, there was definitely a line.

Even though it appeared in the time-frame I am refusing to get excited until I have a test where I don''t have to think ''is this definitely a line''...

I''ll test again tomorrow am and let you all know...

OMG, Pandora, I''m so excited for you!!!! I''m crossing my fingers for you! I hope tomorrow is clearer, but as the saying goes, a line is a line, you jerkstore, you!

Congrats Pandora!!! I envy your willpower, I think I''d be testing every hour! Sending tons of sticky dust your way!!!

Thanks DD, it''s great to know we still have a chance even with the lube!

Lovely- I''ve never gotten more than two peak readings in a row. It''s always two peak, then 1 high. I usually verify my peak with an opk and they always align (I use the cup method so I can use the same urine for both tests). Good luck with the two week wait!

NYC- Good luck bding this weekend!

I just want to see a bit more pink - so I know it''s not an evap. Can you get evaps in 3 minutes?

I would test again every hour, but the problem is that the only way I could would be to drink loads and then it would be diluted. I''d rather wait for disappointment tomorrow rather than get a BFN in an hours time - if that makes sense.

Girls - do NOT throw that pee away until you are past the time limit on the test.

I also don''t have an FRERs or digis in the house and no chance of getting one till Monday... grrr

I am trying so hard not to get excited....

Oh Pandora, no you can''t get an evap line in 3 minutes! They are caused by the dye drying, which takes a good while.

I am so excited, and really, really praying that this is a BFP for you!! Definitely get those FRER''s ASAP!!

Pandora can''t you find a FRER or an digi somewhere?? LOL! By tomorrow morning it is unlikely the line on the current tests would be any darker anyways! Why don''t you take a picture and post it? We will tell you there is a line and then you can celebrate! Yippee!

Another option is to use about 6 or a million of the cheapie tests and see whether some tests have darker lines. They actually vary in how much dye they have etc etc so taking a bunch of tests with the same tinkle is a good idea if you are unsure!

I''ll go and buy some other tests tomorrow - and try not to pee till then!

I took another one - and got exactly the same faint line.

Here are some super craptastic photos - which look even worse than the actual thing did!

See if you can see ANYTHING at all...

pantest1.jpg

Here''s one with two tests...

The top one is the one I am seeing the line on. The bottom one is an old test with no line at all.

pantest2.jpg

I can see it better on the second picture on my monitor...

I did some inverts as well, but I don''t think they''re up to much either...

paninvert 163.jpg

Last one...

I don''t mind if people say they can''t see anything at all on them - it''s a pretty faint line, but it is the same thickness as the control at least!

Pandora,

I *think* I see something. Test with an FRER tomorrow morning (or tonight, if you can hold your pee without drinking anything for three hours)- they''re the most trustworthy, that I''ve found!

Good luck, gal!

It''s hard to see on this monitor

but taking pics of faint lines is hard. I see *something* in the one comparing the blank on to the one you see the faint line on, but it is iffy to compare two tests like that since the dye could be very different. I guess I can''t say without seeing it in person probably... I found with my faint line if I brightened the shot and increased the contrast it was easier to see. I think the mystery will have to wait until the morning! Save your pee and dip like 5 sticks. Then you will really know hopefully! Luckily, this is a mystery that always becomes much clearer with time.

Are pharmacies over there not open 24 hours 7 days a week? Don''t then understand that TTCers need FRERs and digis at all times of night and day?

I don''t have one in the house
39.gif
and it''s 1am here.

Just out of interest, I decided to try an OPK stick and I have a nice pale pink band on there - I tried that yesterday evening and the day before just to stop myself from wanting to buy expensive pg tests and got zilch...

Can you get a pink band on an OPK during your LP (ie at the end of LP, not straight after ovulation)?

I have heard some people say that you can use OKS like preggo tests... but who knows! Try a google search??

1am eh?... I'd go to the 24 hour pharmacy! hee hee... how will you sleep?
2.gif
Pee on some sticks now! LOL... I am so demanding. I know you said you'd rather wait to the morning, but the hormones won't be much different by then... shoot, there I go again!

Ebree no AFF yet? When was she due?

Indeed there are - but not in walking distance and if I ask DH to drive me to get one he''ll think I''m over-obsessed and that I should wait till the morning....

Men truly don''t get this at all.

Ebree no AFF yet? When was she due?

She came early this morning after two days of spotting.

I was actually a bit relieved, to be honest, because my dramalicious mother (from whom I have to keep all this baby stuff a secret) is visiting at the end of this month, and I didn''t need to be super stressed in early pregnancy. I''m pretty optimistic about this cycle, though!
10.gif

Ebree I''m sorry! This au natural cycles will probably feel more relaxing to you anyways, and it sounds like the timing would be better, so that is all good!

Pandora so the question is this: Was the line on the OPK as dark or darker than the test? That means it could be a positive test for pregnancy... maybe.

Nope...

I think I might go to bed and then tomorrow will come quicker - a bit like Christmas does when you are a child
9.gif
.

I will report back either way!

Pandora, maybe I''m just nutso but I am absolutely positive I see a line on that top test! Same thickness as the control line. You may already know I think those tests are crap anyway! I would have known I was preggo sooner if it weren''t for those... I was getting positive digi''s and fantastic dark lines on a first response when you could barely see a line at all on those strips. Who cares if your husband thinks your nuts? I''d make him go get a test!!
9.gif

Good luck Pandora!

Pandora, this is so exciting! I can''t wait to see what your other tests look like! I also think I can just barely see a line in the comparison with the BFN. And, I agree with Lindsey. Who cares what hubby thinks! He''s totally going to think you''re insane at some point in pregnancy anyway, so does it really matter if it''s now or a few months from now?!

Ebree, I''m sorry AFF is here.

I know that a lot of us here are taking prenatal vitamins, so I wanted to share an FDA study that was just posted on Fertility Friend. This study evaluates levels of lead exposure in vitamins, including prenatal vitamins. Imagine my surprise and unhappiness when I discovered that the brand I take: Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System has 6.5 times the daily recommended lead exposure level (0.5ug a day for lead as a reproductive toxicant)

So I don''t mean to alarm anyone, but if any of you are taking a prenatal listed in the higher levels, you may consider switching.

OK Pandora, I totally saw a pink line even before I saw your second photo with the two tests. When I had my BFP in Dec, I didn''t test till 17dpo (thought the game was over with some really really really heavy spotting around 11-14dpo, and didn''t test till the spotting lightened up and AF still hadn''t arrived). I had a superdark positive OPK, so I''m sure earlier on it would have been + too. And the same brand of internet cheapie pg test was really positive too. So I think you''re preggers! Can''t wait to see what they look like tomorrow.

I had a 0.5F drop in my temp today at 7dpo. Wonder if it could be an implantation dip? I sure hope so - I''m getting really sick of TTCing and having everyone else get pg except me. Or at least so it seems. At least since I''m not on any HCG this cycle (just my self-administered estrogen and progesterone), I should be able to test a little earlier if I want to. Of course the fact that I only have 2 or 3 HPTs in the house, and absolutely refuse to spend anything more than $0.80 on one means that I''ll probably hold out till at least 13dpo to have a better chance of a positive result.

Of course I just found out that a family friend had their baby on Sept 2nd, which was a day before my EDD for baby-that-was-not-to-be.
7.gif
It makes me a little sad to think that''s where I could be at now. And then again I think maybe God had a more clever plan for us, and wanted us to have hope that we can get pg (albeit with a little help), while leaving me without a little baby to totally kill my chances for studying and passing the darn Royal College exams come spring. If I were to get pregnant now, I''d be due end of May, which would likely be a week or so before my oral exams. Since we spend the entire year prepping for that, I think I could handle it, even if I were totally sleep-deprived by a newborn. Hope this time round works!

Peony - yep, I''m in Canada. I''m in Anesthesia. Most programs here are 5 years long. I think peds is 3 or 4, and neurosurg maybe 6, and family practice is 2. Those include the generalized PGY1 year (like the former internship year) for all programs. No way in heck would I want to be a general surgeon. If I were to do something surgical, I could see ENT. I totally wanted to do OB/GYN my entire life till right at the end of med school when I saw the light and fell for anesthesia instead. I had an inkling that I was so obsessed with Ob/gyn because I was 29 and interested in having babies. And the ob was way more fun than the gyne, and no one really wants to do ob for too many years cause it''s stressful and bad hours. What''s your DH thinking of going into?

Kate

Kate, it''s interesting to hear about the differences in residencies between countries. Anesthesiology is 4 yrs here. I''m actually a pre-med (a career changer), and I''m just finishing up my requirements now. I''m taking the MCAT in April of next year. Have you ever thought about being an obstetric and perinatal anesthesiologist?

DH is an MD/PhD and he''s much more research-oriented, so he won''t be doing a residency. Which is actually kinda nice, because I think it would be really hard to raise a family with two practicing physicians. Good luck with everything!!

Peony - I''m a career-changer too! Did engineering physics for undergrad, cause I loved math and physics and figured I''d never have a chance to study that again. And also thought if I didn''t get into med school or changed my mind about becoming a doc, engineering would be a good practical degree that could get me a job. I had to do bio and biochem in summer school after 3rd year for the prereqs and to get a boost up for writing the MCAT (hated doing that! thank God I had a few sleeping pills left over to help me out the couple nights beforehand). And of course I didn''t clear the waitlists after graduating, so I was left up in the air searching for a job. Went overseas to work, figured I''d stay 2 years to make it slightly more worthwhile for the company, and then loved what I did so much it actually took me 4.5 years to think of applying again. At least the 2nd time around I did way better in the interviews and had my pick of schools.

I''d think as long as your marks are decent, you''ll have better luck getting in cause you should do really well in interviews. I think life experience really helps, especially when they start asking those lovely questions like "tell us about a time when you had to deal with an interpersonal conflict at work" etc etc. Ugh. At this rate you and I should be able to agonize about studying together, since I''ll be cramming for my big exam in April all year too.

Wow, your DH must be clever to be MD/PhD material, and having one of you with hopefully more predictible hours in research will definitely help. Having two practicing physicians is doable, particularly with a nanny, as long as you consciously make choices about what specialty to be in or how to practice. There are lots around here who work part-time or job-share, and if you pick fairly lifestyle oriented specialties like anesthesia, derm, ophtho, pathology (huge shortage of them at least in Canada), it''s not so bad. The job I''m looking at for next year is in the community, and generally goes 7:30am-3:30pm. Once every couple of weeks you''re working late till 5:30pm, and once every 12-14 days or so you''re on call, with pre and post call days off. So it''s pretty sweet. And I''ll get to work with adults and kids, which will be great.

Ob anesthesia is what I''m rotating through this month. I like it, but I don''t think I could do it full time. It''s pretty exhausting to be on a busy ob unit, and doing epidurals/spinals just isn''t quite so exciting any more :). Especially not at 3am. It''s gratifying work, but at least in anesthesia you''re often more behind-the-scenes and have to have a good sense of the value of your own work, not wait for anyone else to truly appreciate what you do. You get the great thank you right after you''ve done the epidural, but later the ob on call gets all the thanks for the delivery (that he/she was at for 15mins), when you''ve made the 12 hour labour a bearable experience and the nurse has really done all the hard work. Of course once the epidural''s in and the patient''s comfy, she''s often out at the nursing station watching the monitors from afar while chatting with the rest of the nurses. :) It''s actually really nice to be in the main OR with GAs going and just be able to kick back and relax a bit sometimes. And to spend your day sitting lots of the time. I couldn''t believe how dead my legs were Friday night after 9 hours of nearly constantly running around L&D.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled TTC programming. I''ll be boring the rest of you to death!

Kate
