The Natural Sapphire Company Experience

Thanks for the continued advice its much appreciated!!!

I attach the video of the NSC ring just to rest my mind in peace for that one since it was my original choice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6B2p-pKsJg&feature=youtu.be

Let me know if you still think its such a bad buy.

The Leon Mege stone looks lovely but I think I want some more size so at $28k 3ct is too expensive for me even with some negotiating!!

That's understandable, but I do think that's what top untreated sapphire is going for, considering he might take 20k

To my eyes the NSC is a beautiful stone. It seems to have some grey but not in an ugly way.
That said, I do not think it is 30K beautiful. If you love it, negotiate firmly to get it at a lower price.

the pros: It is an unheated 7 carat sapphire, which is undoubtably rare. It makes for an impressive ring. I do think the platinum rng with half moon sides is a classic look.

The cons: I would rather have a 3 carat stone vetted by some of the pricescopers here, than a 7 carat stone. It is true 7 carat stones are very rare but for me the reason I would get a colored stone is the color color color (the more saturated and vivid the better!). I think the quality of the stone should trump everything else, when you are dealing with your price range.
Other concerns. Would your intended be comfortable with a ring that size? It is more of a cocktail than an engagement ring size.

Thoughts. I do hope you did get some feedback from her on both what stone type (diamond, sapphire) if gemstone what color she prefers, shape, etc.

+1 to all of this. To me, CS's are great when they have the desired color as opposed to treated vs. untreated. That is, I think that one should keep color in mind over treatment status--of course with some exceptions if there are extreme treatments. But IMHO heat only isn't an extreme treatment for sapphire. I think that the most vivid + saturated stone is best, even if it cannot be quite as big as 7ct. Especially for your budget, you should be looking at only the best stones color-wise.

I also would have to agree with making sure your soon-to-be fiance is ok with such a large stone. Many women are totally fine with it, which is great, but others are not (myself included, I would not feel comfortable wearing over 3-4carats for a daily wear ring). Just some things to consider as you go along your journey :)

I just recently bought a sapphire through the natural sapphire company a few months ago. I just bought the loose stone and had my setting custom made with a local jewelry store. It was Caitlyn that helped me with my stone and I'm very happy with the quality and the customer experience that I received with the company. I'm not sure if that is what your worried about. Good Luck on your endeavor and congratulations!

There are a lot of online retailers that sell nice stones, but rarely do they sell incredible, investor quality, heirloom type stones. From what you've described, I think this is exactly what you should be trying to find. Ask around...

I would start with some of the precision faceters in the U.S...ask them what they have on hand:

Lisa Elser
John Bailey
Precision Gem
Finewater Gems

These are in no order of preference, just the first four names that popped into my head. There are dozens more.

Have you seen this one from Finewater gems? Virtually loupe clean and its GIA lab report confirms no heat or other treatments.
5.21ct, 10.18 x 8.24 x 7.35mm, VVS clarity for $15,630

Please note that it seems to be a more watery colour in the vendor pic, while the stone looks very saturated in the video.

It's of course impossible to be certain unless you see it in person, but that 7.11 ct sapphire from Wilds looks stunning to me. It looks positively glowy! Good find, Chrono.

Those are absolutely gorgeous! In love

The NSC one is nice but I agree with the others - I would look at a slightly smaller (3-5 ct) sapphire with superior cut & colour over the larger one. Please ensure your partner wants a huge ring and absolutely loves blue sapphires before committing $30K to this endeavour! The Leon Mege stone is truly fabulous so my top pick so far is that one... :naughty:

It's quite a ring, but it's not out of the realms of possibility that he would accept 30k for that ring...

That said...

No Returns

So be sure she'd like it - it makes quite a statement and will not be to everyone's taste! Particularly for an engagement ring it is probably more of an esoteric choice.

The sapphire is Burmese and unheated, but if I am splitting hairs it could be even nicer (to my tastes that is, everyone likes different things in sapphires).

I love that ring but its so much "look" I feel like it might be a bit out there for an e ring, like you had said

What I would do myself is call him up and say, I want a three or 5 stone, if I get that from you, would you be willing to take 20 k on he sapphire.

And I bet he surely would

If it were me, I'd have him replicate this gem

The ring Neil posted is incredible--I love that look! And I agree he certainly would take 20K for the sapphire if you were to get a 3-stone made by him.

Thank you for all the answers I am overwhelmed with choices!!!

I have been in touch with a few of the vendors so will report back when something has been found.

Again thank you very much

The verdict is in!!

My GF loved the Leon Mege ring so had to buy that one

https://leonmege.com/portfolio/shop-now/stock-statement/natural-unheated-burma-sapphire-diamond-ring-detail

I negotiated the price but surely i am paying a large premium for it at $40k, however I am ok with it as its what my GF wants.

Hopefully it will make for a special ring that she will cherish every day!!

Thanks for all your help

With all the diamonds, the unheated sapphire and superb workmanship, you are not overpaying at $40K. Congrats on a lovely new e-ring.

 so pretty!

I am speechless over that ring!! Congratulations!!!!!

What a stunning ring!!! You have made a great choice together. The colour of the stone looks fabulous and that setting is equally amazing.
This is such a beautiful and royal like gift for your wife. But above all it's very sweet and thoughtful. Please post more pics when the ring has arrived.

I am not sure these are the optimum colour in the UK where the original poster is from though. The blues look too bright for our country.

WHAT???????? I'm sorry but I'm in the UK and most definitely know what optimum colour is and nothing is ever too bright! I think you're mixing in the wrong circles :naughty:

PLEASE REMEMBER THE IMPORT TAXES AND DUTIES YOU'LL PAY if the seller declares the $40k for shipping and insurance purposes. You may be charged up to 20% of the $40k which is a huge consideration. If shipped using FedEx they are the worst because they add all sorts of charges on as well. I've just been charged £78 for a package marked $500.

You could consider picking it up yourself together with your gf. You will then pay 8% sales tax in New York. I think it will be great to meet Leon in person and he could resize the ring.
Oooh, I have such a weak spot for this ring.

wow, such a gorgeous choice! Happy she loves it, and I agree that with all of the diamonds, untreated stone, etc you don't seem to be overpaying. I hope you both enjoy it for years to come! congrats and please post hand pics when it comes!!

Thanks for all the replies - we both love this ring!!

I am not getting the ring shipped back to the UK no way Jose :naughty:

20% VAT makes my stomach turn.

I am going to Washington DC to visit some friends so the transaction will be completed then and the ring will be posted to DC.

I'll go and visit Leon of course will be interesting to meet him in person.

I was just meaning it was a light blue sapphire but GIA have the optimum color as medium or medium dark, so I believed the best to be Royal Blue like Silksapphire's beautiful rinng.
