There is some minor painting digging.
What happened to going with JA or WF?
Everyone here thought the JA diamond wasn’t great. All others in my budget and size preference were not eye clean.
WF was out of budget. Unfortunately. At least right now. Maybe if they get more stones that aren’t as high clarity.
I’ve worked with ID before on a 5 stone ring and a necklace. Others suggested asking ID if they’d be willing to work with me on a trade in.
Hey @sstephensid
Yuketiel found you a really nice diamond, and passes the reflector image light performance images.
It is not a precision cut super ideal cut quality but will perform better than the vast majority of diamonds you will come across. I bet you it isn't priced like a super ideal diamond either.
Just ensure you and your intended are happy with a J colour diamond (AGS/GIA report) and have seen such diamonds in real life.
Also looks like a very clean diamond. You may be able to stretch your budget to get a higher carat by dropping the clarity a bit but IDJ prices are already quite competitive.
Thanks. I had to look up painting and digging. It seems like this diamond still may fall under AGS000 if graded by ags just not like super ideal ACA or other very stringent cuts. I think I’m ok with that, due to price. I don’t know that I’d notice. Even if I did notice, I’m not sure I’m willing to drop the size to get a slightly better cut. Thank you. There is some minor painting digging.
More than I would want to see with a super-ideal premium but not enough to really hurt the optics to a large degree.
I like ASET black for the reason that it is very common to use over bright back lights which overstates leakage.
How much is it if you don't mind me asking?
If WF is outside the budget, I doubt HPD is.Have you tried HPD (High Performance Diamonds)?
I read back over your 1.52 JA thread as I lost track this weekend. I see you posted the idealscope image of the JA stone.
Hands down the IDJ stone is better. The light return images and proportions on this stone are much better and more balanced. I think it will be closer in performance to your existing stone.
I also missed the part where your husband nixed the WF trade in and purchase. Is by chance IDJ working with you on a trade for your existing stone?
I actually spoke with Yuketiel yesterday and had a great conversation. He's passionate about his craft and helping people so I think you are in good hands.
I'm sorry if my comments about the arrow spooked you. That wasn't my intent. The light return images prove it doesn't cause any significant issues so I'm not worried from that perspective. I just found it peculiar is all. Considering all variables I am not certain you will do any better so if you are happy I'd move forward.
Best of luck with the process. Please post pics of the finalized ring!
Not spooked! I understand it isn’t “super ideal” but I’m ok with ideal since I want 1.5 and my budget is tight. I appreciate everyone’s comments. I’ve purchased it along with this setting (in rose gold). https://www.gabrielny.com/engagement-ring/ER8271W44JJ
Initially I planned to trade in but it just wasn’t worth it. I need to figure out if I want to sell my old stone and if so, what it’s worth.
Can’t wait to get it!
Thanks. Unfortunately it will be about 3-4 weeks as I guess Gabriel’s factory will be shut down for about 1 - 1 1/2 weeks on top ofCongrats on a great purchase!!! I think top GIA XXX stones could be a tremendous value when you're provided with light return images that show solid performance, which you were!! Enjoy your beautiful new diamond and setting and please come back with pics!!![]()

the normal production time. But I’m excited![]()

When racing, I get caught up in tenths of a second difference. Not appreciable to most folks but for the guy going down the track, running a quarter mile in 9.99 is much different than 10.02. Reality is you better be buckled up buttercup, because the ride will be intense. Also, you better have a fat wallet, because many times it costs THOUSANDS of dollars to shave a few tenths of a second off your time.
Sometimes I think that competitiveness and precision carries over here to diamond land.
I think you did a great job with the budget you have. I think you got a top performer that will bring you years and years of joy. I was a little surprised to see the new halo setting. I thought you had chosen a rose gold floral design in your other thread? Maybe I'm mixing threads up?
Either way, I cannot wait to see pictures of your new bling obsession!
PS - To get an idea of what your existing stone is worth, you may want to utilize RareCarat. Search for stones exhibiting near identical characteristics. Gives you an idea of NEW retail prices. Adjust appropriately for pre-loved, cross your fingers and hope for the best. Keep in mind, yours is AGS000 certified so that will be very desirable to many, especially if you list here on this site.
Oops I linked the wrong setting. It’s not a floral halo exactly like the JA one but the closest I could find. The total carat weight is higher though![]()
