Recently I became very interested in DBTY necklaces (especially the single-diamond, short ones) after seeing all the pretty examples around the forums, and went digging through my jewelry box to see if I had anything similar that could emulate the look as a trial-run (everyone does this, right?). I was looking for a short chain so I could stick a little paper dot on it (again, totally normal behavior yeah??).

Instead, found this thing, which I received years ago as a gift and then promptly forgot about and never wore... :oops2:

So, this necklace is new-to-me, which I am going to finally start wearing! HOWEVER, it's making me re-think the whole getting a DBTY thing, because... do I REALLY need a DBTY if I have this one already? It's similar yet unique, comfortable, doesn't poke, doesn't flip, stays in center, has nice presence. Everything I'd want in a perfect DBTY. Except... I'm thinking it's too big?? :eek2:

More photos (see the comfy back! Can be worn multiple ways!):

Ok SO I'm trying to justify to myself that a dainty DBTY is a completely different look, especially if I get it in rose gold... I'm looking at the Tiffany one, either 7 or 10 points. I know their DBTY diamonds are cut shallower to appear larger, but also hopefully to avoid the poke without adding a back.

And if I DO get the DBTY, should I get it in 16" or 15" (above necklace is 15")?

This is 16", for reference (again, another necklace that was a gift which I never wore... till now ):

So... should I get a DBTY despite having a few similar necklaces that I never wore anyway? Or is there a better alternative I should be throwing my money at? BTW example pictures always welcome! ;)2

DBTYs are versatile and lovely but if you aren’t sure you’ll wear it just wait. See what you think now that you have found this lovely piece and if you find yourself wearing it more than you can consider a Dbty in the future. And then you have decisions as to the length of the DBTY and size of the stones.
But in the meantime don’t jump into anything. Wear what you have and see how it goes.
I love this necklace you posted. Very pretty!

Darn it! Why are you so reasonable! I thought this was pricescope. :lol-2:

I guess time gives the best perspective... will keep stalking and collecting photos for now!

Hahaha yes  but there is a time and place. And when it is worth it I am the first to say go for it. But I always have the best interest of my fellow PSers at heart. :halo:

In my opinion there really isn’t a substitute for the design of DBTY, so if that is what you want take the time your need to get the perfect size for you. Your other pieces are also beautiful, enjoy them.

I bought a cheap dbty to try and see if I really liked it. The diamonds sitting upside down most of the time drove me crazy. I’m sticking with the cheapie.

+1.

FWIW, I have a DBTY and although it is small by PS standards (35 points)--it is a stunning necklace. Tiffany's rose gold is beautiful and I love it.

I suggest trying some on to get a feel if it is "for you".

cheers--Sharon

The diamond flipping upside down will happen... when I wore my 36” one quite a few of the diamond will be flipped. Also even at 15pt I can feel the point of the diamond on my skin and that bothered me.

I like your two necklaces! And I think if you don't wear them, being as lovely as they are, you probably won't wear a DBTY necklace, despite it being equally lovely.

Stay with what you have.

HI:

My single never flips (16 inch chain), although it might travel a bit. And is pokey. But I LOVE it!

cheers--Sharon

I don't wear mine often because the diamonds drive me NUTS when they're upside down (which is almost always), plus, they poke me. (it was a gift and the diamonds are the worst included diamonds I have EVER seen- so that's another reason I don't reach for it much)

Where did you get the cheapie and how much was it? Any photos of it on?
The Tiffany one I want is "only" $775, while this Etsy "cheapie" I found is $200. That puts both in the same ballpark: not a huge deal of money, but also not insignificant. If I could just borrow one for a day that'd be perfect!

I've already imagined getting both and layering at different lengths... ahh :wall: bad brain!

Is poking apparent as soon as you put it on, or do you have to wear it a while before you notice? ie, if I try it on in-store will I know right away if it's a poker? Flipping I don't mind terribly but any discomfort is a no. The attraction of the short single dbty, to me, is how wearable it looks.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! I think I'll put it on my Christmas list and try really hard to forget about it for a few months, and just enjoy the new-to-me necklaces at the moment. Try - like a non-obsessive, responsible adult.

My experience, on me, is that diamond pendant styles stay in place and right away around but bezel set diamonds, into the chain, drive me mad!
On me, they are forever wrong way around and I find myself constantly looking in mirrors, sighing, and trying to get and keep the diamonds right way around!

I am sensitive so the poke is felt right away, silicate to being sensitive to wool sweater (fine merino is fine), so if you are sensitive to wool I’d think you will feel it right away.

I'd start wearing the two you have! I have a 36" long DBTY necklace with many stones which I love, but I probably wouldn't care about a single little bezel one unless it might work to wear with that second diamond necklace you posted. I think the first one needs to stand alone.

Mine hurts! The little diamond points are scratchy. And it flips. I vote no.

Well I just got it today... :oops2: told DH I wanted this for Christmas and he subscribes to the happy wife happy life theory so Christmas came early...

I made ABSOLUTELY sure that sucker didn't poke from all angles before confirming the purchase. Very very happy with it! It's my first diamond from Tiffany (and most likely last, LOL, those prices are cray), and it definitely looks bigger than its 0.07 carat weight, which probably means a flatter cut.

aMlrB47.jpg

It's so shiny in all lighting conditions! I am sure I'll get a lot of wear out of this necklace, it's juuust right for me! Doesn't seem to flip so far, every time I check the mirror I just smile. It does go out of place but I actually like that. Eventually settles back to the middle by itself anyway.

Thanks for everyone's opinions though (such voices of reason), I really did take it to heart and plan on waiting it out but... I have a DH who loves me very much.

looks beautiful on you! Glad it’s not pokey, and it looks amazingly big given the size.

Oh it looks perfect on you!!! Love it! :appl: And I love that your dh got it for you now instead of waiting, that is so romantic to me! And Merry Christmas lol :P2

It looks lovely on you - what a nice surprise! Glad too that it works for you with no poke - that would be a non-starter for me too. Enjoy your gorgeous new necklace!

It looks great on you and looks much larger than .07!

Congrats on you early Christmas present.

Hmmm.. Well I wouldn't talk you out of anything new but I'm loving the one you already have. It's so unique and has a lovely presence I would wear that if I had it, but there's always room for more..

Edit: oops I didn't see that you had already gotten another necklace. I love the new one too. So dainty, but with a presence also.

Fricking gorgeous!!!! I love it on you So What length did you decide on??? Making me want one too

16"! It's actually longer than 16", because the measurement is only for the chain, they don't count the length of the bezel bit.

Comparison with my 16" chain:

When pulled down straight, it's definitely longer. But because it's so light, in normal wear it forms a U-shape rather than a V-shape (sits higher) so I didn't feel the need to shorten at all!

Thank you, and I would 10/10 recommend, I forget I'm wearing it since it weighs nothing but then I pass a mirror and it shines just right. :boohoo:

You are too kind... but really, there's no such thing as a bad bling model. That's the point of bling right, looking good on everyone (best on cats maybe)?
