I am now a little confused about the setting to choose! I will be staying at this size even if I upgrade color -- DH has forbidden any more increases in size unless we become millionaires because he thinks this diamond is darn BIG enough for our social circle

. One of the things I am not happy about with my current ring is the setting. It does not feel like "me". And I hate to throw good money after bad by spending much of anything on a setting that I will not keep.

I like the thinner shank better- the one with the solid cathedral.

If you like six prong solitaires: I have a cheapo setting that I really like that''s one of my, um, non diamond travel rings, that I always thought was great bang for the buck for a pretty but really inexpensive setting. It was by AmericanSet on ebay, it''s a Tiffany repro that looks pretty darn good for the price- I think it was $130ish? Just plain 14K but the workmanship was just fine, and it has the pretty swoopy prongs. Knife edge I think, if I remember right. And they can make it to fit a lot of different size stones.
Now those are low prices! I am not sure that BGD would set the diamond into a ring from them of unknown quality.

They recommended www.uniquesettings.com as a place for me to look for very inexpensive settings. The two I posted on the earlier page are from there. I am pretty finicky about my settings so I don''t think that I would want something that was not given a really good finish.

minor threadjack -

swedish bean - I have serious issues sending my valuables through usps registered - the waiting drives me nuts! I had my vendor (WF) make me a fedex overnight label that I paid for in my final amount - more expensive but the extra $50 or so was definitely worth the peace of mind! I think your vendor will work with you.

back to the show!

I''m sure it will be a beautiful stone. BGD does not sell anything that isn''t gorgeous. It will be a great stone until the next upgrade!

Hey, I am very very happy that you made a decision. You should tell them to keep their eye out just in case from now until May they happen to come across a H SI, you never know.
But, I am glad that you made a decision!

Congrats, Dreamer. I hope you love your big J. Since it's not your final upgrade, it should be good. I really love my J. Despite the way it looks in certain lights, it is a beautiful stone. I will miss it when I upgrade in a few years.
I am willing to live with a slight tint in some lighting to get the size that I want for the price we wanted to pay! Sometimes you have to accept the small flaws I guess

If your diamond was your ideal size would the tint bother you as much? I asked myself that question and knew the answer was 'no'. For now anyways!

You lucky ducky!!

You managed to get a stone that is borderline I/ J whilst paying the price for a J. These things are very rare.

I guarantee you will not see any tint. My J's are solid J's and even though I consider myself quite colour senstive, I don't really see tint in them. There really is such a HUGE colour jump between J and K (and yours is not even a regular J).
Congratulations. I'm soooooooo happy for you!

those two settings look identical to me - am I missing something? lol

Solid vs open cathedral .. you have to click on the image to see the difference
I have them open in different windows and they still look identical - both views. I can''t tell the difference! Both have open caathedrals from what I can tell /sob

Okay I got it now - trying to have them both open at the same time wasn''t working :P

I don''t see the point of buying a big bling with bad grading. I rather wear a decent size but have good grading. That''s just me!
Well, I guess my peart suck! lol ---> Please leave if you are going to post ugly replies like that!

DREAMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!
My very fist diamond was a 1.54 J VVS1 and it was to DIE for. It was REALLY white/stealy. Breathtaking.

I can''t wait to see it!!!! you must be so happy!!!!

Congrats Dreamer! I think that''s a good size stone.

I like the second setting best. It''s 2.6mm instead of 2mm like the first. I think you need a little more oomph with your new bigger stone. I wouldn''t stop looking though. Maybe there''s something you''d like better out there.

Thanks for all the congrats freinds!

You know, it is funny, this is the *first* time that I am upgrading and I am not worries one little bit about liking this diamond! I am not worried about the color or the clarity or the size... I just *know* I will love it! Such a great thing to be purely happy and excited!
