Oooh the wheels are turning!

So my initial thought was no to the J color for you... but now I am thinking $ math. This 1.66 J VS1 is near the budget max. Do you have the budget to get higher color/eyeclean in the size you want? This 1.52 ct I VS2 stone is just over $11k. You could maybe get a touch more size going to SI stones, but is it going to be enough to get to H in a size you want?

You have to be honest with yourself and not just *will* yourself to be okay with something you are not okay with - is this J going to rest easy on your hand for years? Or should you hold out for an H/I SI stone as big as you can get? Maybe in a month or few with a few more dollars to sweeten the pot? But you wore the K so you know how much it bothered you and maybe that helps with figuring out where you sensitivity is, just like you are wearing the 1.2 ct stone and know how much you want larger size. Ponder well...

Weighing in on this discussion to say I wouldn''t get this stone. Here''s why, I think it will be too tinted for you. I have a 1.33 J ACA,and while it''s a beautiful stone, it''s just too tinted for me. From what you''ve posted, you are even more color sensitive than me. I would be happy with an I (although an H would be better yet), but you love a G color. I''m pretty sure this J will have too much color for you. Believe me, the J will show some color in certain lights, and it will most likely bother you like it does me.

I decided not to get this stone.

Good girl. Something tells me that was a wise decision.

hang in there, babe. Someday your stone will come.

DD - you made a wise decision! You will get "the one" you want very soon!

crossing my fingers for you!

I know the waiting is hard (have been there done that with jewelry purchases), but trust me when I say that the wait will be worth getting exactly what you want.
These situations always remind me of Mrs Slavo's (I hope I spelled that right) signature: "A deal is only a deal if you get exactly what you want". (I know you are not looking for a deal, but you do have a price point... so hang in there for exactly what you want

I changed my mind

We cannot afford an H in the size we want right now, and so waiting would mean holding out for an I color of lower clarity for more money...

We feel good about this decision and we will pick up the diamond when we go to Seattle for a romantic weekend sans baby to celebrate our 3rd anniversary in May!

YES!!!

I am so pleased!!

Now I''m confused!!

Does that mean you''ve decided on this one for sure??

Yup, we are buying it!

Lesely tells me it is white and will not show a lot of tint. And I don''t care, it is HUUUUUUGGGGEEE!!

I will upgrade color later if I care.

It is huge! And the clarity is exceptional, and a high-J-almost-I is a winner in the color department, imo!
Good decision, Dreamer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats.

But...do we have to wait until May to see it? Any chance of a photo sneak peek from Brian and Lesley? And what about the setting?
Inquiring minds need all the details!

I don''t see the point of buying a big bling with bad grading. I rather wear a decent size but have good grading. That''s just me!

J color and VS1 clarity are hardly "bad" grading! Cut grading is the only beauty factor, and the stone in question has cut quality that is superior to 99% of the diamonds on the market today. Color, size, clarity are rarity factors (that increase the price) and, as you correctly stated, are personal preference factors. Preference varies from person to person.

And I don't see the point in making random rude comments about someone's diamond that are completely uneducated about diamond quality

AGS0 cut grade, VS1 clarity... yup, must be a total dog.

I wish I could figure out emoticons! Those are hilarious!

I actually used to be a member of the J club. My first diamond was a J and I really liked it. Just wasn''t big enough

Sadly, I think a lot of stores put emphasis on color only- so to some people they think "J" is bad because it''s not DE, which in the stores I''ve seen a lot of people say things like, "And look how gorgeous this diamond is.. it''s in the colorless range DEF!!"

When, it''s actually much much more than just the color.

I also have a J diamond and I loooove it- but that''s just me!!!

DD - I''m so happy for you! I totally don''t want to be presumptuous, but I was browsing on the BGD site today and thinking about 3-stone rings (your dilemma has me now considering them for the bling factor
11.gif
). How about this since you''re considering J stones?

1.503 J SI1 center stone $8892
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-1040407590019

0.306 I VS2 side stone $450

0.304 I SI1 side stone $425
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-1040366640003

Three stone setting in WG $1275

Total = $11042 (before wire discount and repeat customer discount)

Sorry about the links - I have trouble with those on my mac. And if you wanted J sidestones instead of I, there were a few of those to consider as well.

I''m sorry if this post is completely out of line, but I was thinking that this could be another option for you to consider? The price and size of that J center stone seemed really good, and you could get a very blingy 3-stone ring with a center stone just a hair smaller than the 1.66 J you''re considering. Either way you decide, you''ve got some great options!

I feel really good knowing that we stayed within our budget quite frankly! We needed to be realistic about what my priorities were (sizesizesizesizesize) and I think this meets them!

This diamond may not be my Hugh jackman, but I think it is totally my Daniel Craig -- Not quite as pretty and talented, but big and sexy as all get out

I am going to wait on the three stone. I am not sure yet whether I will want to upgrade again in the future and I would rather spend it all on the center stone! As it is I am nervous about the potential (negative) attention this new diamond could get from friends and family -- who do not understand my obsession -- so I don''t know what they would make of a three stone with a bigger center!

Besides that, I think that 1.66 is noticably bigger than a 1.50 and, well, that is what I want.
