Hi lovely community!

Can I get some feedback on the specs below?
  • Price: $17200
  • SI2
  • HCA: 2
  • Carat: 2.26
  • Color: G
  • 8.40x8.37x5.27
  • Depth: 62.8%
  • Table: 54.0%
  • Table: 54%
  • Depth: 62.8%
  • Crown ang: 34.5
  • Pav ang: 41.0
My gf and I are trying to maximize size (length/width greater than 8.3mm, ideally 8.4mm or greater, less concerned about carat size) and cut.

We have been targeting SI2 with the best cut possible. Is this a reasonable strategy?

Budget is $15 to 16k (clearly spec above breaks the budget).

Any help is appreciated!

A little deeper than ideal. Is 17k Max?

Ps. Given the budget constraints, I would call ID jewelry in NY. They are great for finding "unicorn" stones.

!

Hi. It is a reasonable strategy, but hard. Everyone is looking for value for money. But it can be rewarding when you find THE ONE.

For this particular stone, I am not liking the black crystals.

Would like to stick under 17k unless it's a really special diamond. Would sacrificing color help me?

I must not be alone on this hunt. I'm assuming a lot of SI2s with great cuts get picked up quickly?

Have you tried looking at the data base here at the top of the page?

Yes. If you could do a J color it would help. K would be even better. But obviously that depends on the color tolerance of your intented.

Yes - a little deeper than ideal ... and since you want to maximize size for the carat weight, look for something with depth closer to 60 but not under, and a thin-medium girdle.

You’re right about looking for a magical SI2 ... everyone wants that one. I’m not sure how much the concierge services cost, but it might be worth trying one. The good news is that the vendors get new inventory every day ... you’ll have to be on your toes. You might even want to consider one that’s not 100% eye-clean ... never-know, you may be able to find one with an inclusion you can live with (my WF sales person has a diamond with a garnet crystal ... I think that’s really cool, actually).

I think the SI2 thing is a reasonable strategy, but you’ll have to be so careful. At some point, it’s not just about being able to see the inclusions, it’s about how the inclusions interfere (or not) with light performance. Inclusions can block light waves and reflect throughout the diamond ... just something to look out for. If the inclusions make the diamond hazy, no amount of cut perfection will make up for it.

If you end up deciding to go down in color to get your size within your budget, it might be important to you to go with a vendor with great trade-up policy ... then you can upgrade the color down the road, if you find it bothers you ... and it might not ... at over 2 carats you may notice the body colour more easily but with ideal cut will face up very white.

Just my two cents. Good luck! :wavey:

I want a stone with a cool inclusion like that!

I have but I didn't look at USA certified diamonds directly. Thank you for this.
