Oh my god, it’s STUNNING! Vesper, it’s so ethereal and fine. So much more gorgeous than in the pictures. That star is beautiful. It also has truly gorgeous proportions. It goes so well with your hand!
How do you feel about it? Are you in love???

BG, I am a bit in shock! The pictures made it look nice online, but nothing like in person! Even without flash it has a lovely star. I am going to be super annoying and take lots of pictures in under different light sources.

Oh you must take many more pictures! I would really enjoy seeing them. I’m in love with it too! I just think it’s truly got a ‘soul’ to it. I’m so happy that this star is yours!

I’m just thrilled! It’s so beautiful and perfect. It was really a meant to be thing because I thought of you the second I saw it.
looks fantastic with both together! I hope you wear them like that. Please don’t make it the last picture ever!

*but. "it is funny that I do not know you in real life BUT you know exactly what I like."
Now my question for you is whether you are going to still add to your star collection! And, do you have a favorite? I love the name ‘orion’.

Ok my little clear star came today! It’s tiny as expected but will be the perfect accompaniment for the jade star, which has not yet arrived FF553465-CFF9-44C6-8FD2-08E7E65A2AA3.jpeg 88A8C895-04EE-48BE-95C4-00C8850D652B.jpeg . I don’t want it to be too bulky and competitive with the star. It’s going to have a crescent moon of little diamonds partially cupping it . In some light, it’s very light blue. Included is a hand shot next to Moonlight Jelly and Sky Star for scale. Ignore the setting if possible because that’s coming off. I’ll try to get a better shot once the sun is higher in the sky.

Here are some inspiration shots of lovely star rings! I love the design of the second and last one. The last one looks like it’s coming out of an egg, or somehow alive within it! Such a wonderful, simple modern design IMO.

Yes, Bluegemz! I also like the hand-cut serrated bezel on that black star!
I may have to use this idea to set a moonstone that I recently picked up at the recent gem show.
Of course, mine will be sterling, as gold sheet is cost-prohibitive!

That will be awesome Stracci! Please show us if you do it. I’d love to see!

I love the black stars too! They look so good with yellow gold.

Ok, here's my version.
The moonstone I used was somewhat milky and I think the enclosed back and sides of this design keeps the light out and downplays the translucent look of the stone.
I also have another better quality moonstone, and will probably set that other stone in prongs.
I filed a fluted design into the shoulders of the ring shank, for added detail.
Here is a series of photos, as I worked on the ring.

Omg Stracci, you are amazing! It’s gorgeous! Adore it! It really could work so well with many stones. It’s a beautiful, dreamy moonstone.

Thanks, Bluegemz!
I was going for that 'hatching from a shell' look,
but I was a little worried that covering up too much of the sides might cause a more opaque look. As with any handmade piece, you never can predict the outcome!

Star Alert:

The star sapphires and rubies can now be glass-filled without losing the star. I've seen several Chanthaburi vendors declare some stars they are selling as glass-filled.

I love all your star sapphires. I'm still waiting to chance upon a nice big roval/round translucent Mogok star sapphire at a reasonable price. I have exactly 1.5 years left to my stint in Myanmar. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the alert, Seaglow. I’ve noticed this on eBay recently...lead glass filled stars.

It’s tiny as expected

If there is a cherry-sized peer out there - I would rather not know today ... This is too beautiful !

Thank you Valeria! I took it out of the silver and it looks much better. It really has a tiny soul to it. The jade star came and they are perfect together...it’s like a return to innocence and childhood. Interestingly, the jade star has a blob of light that moves across the top, like the little star. I just dropped them off with a new jeweler who I’m trying out. I hope to have the ring back in about a month and then I’ll show it. It’s going to be a platinum bypass ring with either little sapphires or possibly diamonds.
