Hi all, I have always loved star sapphires and rubies. Ive noticed some threads about them, and thought it would be nice to show pictures of them in one thread, either loose or set.so, if you have a star, and feel like showing it, please share!

I'm happy to kick it off with my ring, which is an 18k, 18.81 carat star sapphire.

Here's a star pendant as well. It's a mix between purple and pink. I think this one is around 8 carats. It shows some silk, but remains translucent.
I Gave this to my daughter, but she doesn't like the random diamond placement, so I'll probably have it reset. It was suppose to be like stars in the sky, but now I'm thinking that a crescent moon shape with the little diamonds might be nice.

Thank you Chatoyancy! I appreciate your feedback on the gold setting very much. It's interesting how the tastes of younger generations can be so very different. Even when I was her age, I think I would have liked the current setting plenty.

You are such an awesome mum, Bluegemz! Needless to say, I love both your star sapphires. You got me looking at large star sapphires today in Yangon, but I didn't find anything with as fine a translucency as your 18 carat stunner.

Burmezedaze, thank you! I'm pleased that this ring has inspired you! I bet you will find a fabulous one with some looking with your great eye.
I took a few more pics of the ring for fun. It's got a nice under gallery and is very heavy. Indoor and outdoor pictures.

I saw these for sale, and they have my imagination going about what one could make with many star sapphires. A few bangles, or a long, station necklace...the stars make them seem alive! I think the different hues and tones next to each other is quite attractive.

Ok so I just purchased all of those stars! Now I'll have to do something fun with them.

Chatoyancy, thank you! This was an unexpected purchase....I saw them, and asked the seller about inclusions and flaws. He told me that there is only some slight color zoning on some. They are quite small, ranging from 3mm to 5mm. Managed to get a great deal. Now I'm looking for inspirations. I found these bracelets from Oscar Herman. These are MUCH more extravagant than anything that I would do or ever wear, but just look at all the stars!

Here's one more...honestly, I think just some channel set into some kind of a bangle. That project will have to wait for a while though.

How about a 'by the yard' type necklace? It would be great if you have an opera/rope length necklace of 35" or more..

That's a great option/idea Mochito! That would most likely be easier since they might not be similar enough to set into a bangle. Bezel or prong set, with space in between would work though...thanks for the suggestion.

I really like this idea and the diamond by the yard idea Mochiko has.

This is my star ruby. Probably considered very low quality for a star ruby but still very pretty. My daughter had it made for me when she was in India. The setting is silver with diamonds.

LisaRN, it's absolutely gorgeous! I love the proportions and the beauty of the stone. AND, your daughter had it made? How special is that!! It looks stunning on you. Thank you for showing it!

I personally am not too picky about star qualities in general because I truly think they are all beautiful. They have a life within which is miraculous. Recently, I was looking at large, highly fractured stars, and my sense was of an ancient, treasure of the earth with a rough geological birth and life. Millions of years! But the stars and the stones were beautiful, like a fine faces with well lived expressions. Wise and old is beautiful too. Sometimes I feel that too much perfection in stones can be actually a tad boring, like a young, beautiful face but without the depth of life expression and wisdom. Please excuse my musings!

Bluegemz I love your musings! Gemstones are individual with their own personalities and history. I enjoy thinking about these things too. Perhaps that is why I am drawn to antique jewelry and natural gemstones. I think this forum is great because there is such an appreciation of natural gemstones that I don't find from people in my circle.

My 5.2ct star sapphire necklace. Set in PT900, diamond weight 0.91ct. On the top of my head, this is my only star corundum.

I agree completely - maybe its why I enjoy both of your postings so much - they are so much more than the carat weight and a summation of the materials. Bluegemz, have you thought of a career in gemology/jewelry? You are knowledgeable, romantic and so curious - plus I love your pieces and your writing.

As a quick aside, I adore your new ring, but especially the first photo, where it looks like we are staring into a pool of water.

Minous, thank you for your wonderful words! I have long wanted a career in jewelry, but have just collected and tried to educate myself. I always think about wanting to start a second career doing that because I just love it so much. Maybe somehow I'll finally get started this year. I'm grateful to be amongst other jewelry lovers here. It's kind of a rare thing actually, so it's like finding a tribe of people who share the same love. In life, no one around me, except for my youngest daughter, shares the same level of love for the fine art of jewelry design, and of natural gems as I do. Women like them, but don't LOVE them. Have you experienced this?

Chatoyancy, ok that settles it, these are destined to become a by the yard, long necklace which can be wrapped at least twice. The seller informed me that he added some 20 extra stones in, so there are 72! I'll post pics as soon as they arrive. Some will might have to be sorted out..
