These are pictures of an antique ring passed down in my family for decades I received it from my German Grandmother who had no further information about it. I never seen or found anything like it and was wondering if someone in community has seen a ring like this before and has any idea what value it has.
Thanks Everybody!

Thank you!! My great-Aunt Katie willed her to me. It has been my favorite piece, and became the inspiration for my wedding set.

I’m telling you, they had some very nice stuff AND I didn’t pay anywhere near their posted price. They will negotiate a reasonable price. I didn’t even make an offer. Frank dropped the price and it was my target, so I said yes! If you want to contact him let me know. I’ll give you my name so you can tell him I was bragging on him. ;-) (Is there a PM system on here?)

An inherited piece would be so great! But my growing up in a PA steel town, no one had anything "nice":(2

We are also from PA! My Great-Grandparents, on my mother’s side, raised my grandparents in Latrobe, PA. Both sides came from “Old” money. The Crash of the Stock Market during the Great Depression deeply cut the family. Both of my Great-Grandfathers were Dentists, and had made quite a name for themselves in such a small town. At one point, my Great-Grandmother’s family, on my Grandfather’s side, owned a coal mine; it’s adjacent to the mine that collapsed in Shanksville, PA. The Saxman mine has long been abandoned. It’s quite sad, really.
Once they took the financial hit, everyone was left to make it on their own. The only things of great worth to our families were the family homestead in Pittsburgh, PA (which was finally sold in 2015), and the fine pieces of jewelry, passed down to future generations.
My Great-Aunt Katie is not biologically related to my Grandmother, so I have no history on her relatives, nor any info on their socio-economic status, however, she was like a sister to my grandmother, and never had children. Her husband was successful, and made a good living for both of them, so jewelry was a hobby for her, since they could afford the finer things in life. She was very fond of me, and promised that shield ring to me before she passed; I was like a granddaughter to her. I was 15 when she died, so my mother locked it away until I was older. I am very proud to wear it; she was a lovely woman, and I loved her, dearly.
The “Nancy” ring was created in the memory/honor of 3 women in my family who bear that name. The center OEC belonged to my Great-Aunt Nancy, deceased before I was born. Not certain where she sits in the family tree, or who she married in the family, but my mother inherited her engagement ring, and wore it on her RH.
Inheriting these pieces has been my fortune, and because they mean so much to me, I intend to do the same with mine. My daughter will inherit the majority of my jewelry, but “Nancy” was reset & is intended for my son. The woman who marries him will not only be the proud wearer of a fine piece of jewelry with intense sentiment, but she will gain the finest husband this side of the Mississippi. She will have to be the most amazing woman in the world to be so lucky. ;)2

I can share the experience in a way. My maternal grandmother had some nice pieces. She was the only one on that side who LOVED jewelry. She had many granddaughters and passed things thinly between all of us, and what was left, the things which I really wanted, were stolen by caretakers at the end of her life. :angryfire:
The other grandmother was a jeweler who also had so many granddaughters. She left most to my aunt, who sold some of the best when she was going through a rough spot. I would have paid to keep those things in the family had I known! In the end, through the years, I got 2 handmade necklaces from her, and a silver sandcast cuff. But still....I dont understand selling family pieces like that.

@Matthews1127 and @Bluegemz , interesting family stories!
My relations came from Italy in 1911 and Syria in 1902. All going through Ellis Island.
The Italians were laborers who worked in the steel mills south of Pittsburgh, in the Mon Valley.
My Syrian great-grandfather ran a confectionary shop.
Jewelry was not important to any of them, but my Italian grandmother had two lovely Art Deco diamond rings, .30-.50 ct.
As a teenager, everytime we visited her, I made her take them off so I could clean them for her.
My cousin has the rings now.

However, I do have something from her.
Dad found a broken diamond ring with her things after her death in 1987.
My mom had the stone removed and placed into something else.
All these years later, I recently asked Dad to find the old setting and give it to me.
So I repaired it and added a white sapphire. It is precious to me as a reminder of Nana. Here are some photos I took as I was repairing it.

What a lovely thing to have done, @stracci2000 ! I’m very attached to the memories of the pieces which my grandmothers wore . They bring back the raw essence of wonder and love for the pieces and my grandmothers. That is what is so upsetting about pieces having been stolen and sold. I’m glad you got that setting back and restored it with a stone! Awesome!

I got Dad to mail it from Florida to me in NM!
Mom and Dad thought I was crazy to want that old broken setting.
They had forgotten all about it, but not me! Mom dug around till she found it.
I was pretty sure I could make it good again.
It's too bad your family pieces are long gone. I would be upset, too.

Just thought I would post a picture of one of my rings that I have collected.
Hallmarked: Plat. Peacock Sapphire (7mm) with Diamond Accents
around 1930s with inscription. I love collecting and occasionally wearing
them. How rare is this color? In person it displays deep greenish-blue.
I hope that you Enjoy!

I know this is an old thread. But I am so in love with this set. This has my mind spinning. I think that has to be the prettiest sapphire I have seen. I am so taken with it. If you ever decide to part with it, you know who to contact. This is the set of my dreams!

that ring is lovely. I think the symbols are likely to be the hallmarks for the gold. Are you able to get any clearer pictures? There are a lot of websites you can use to find out what hallmarks mean.

It’s clear this ring has deep and profound meaning within your family, being an artifact that remained in their possession through the holocaust. If I were you, I would do my best to keep the ring intact, so that means not removing the gems (it’s not like they are huge diamonds). I would definitely take the ring to maybe a historian who specialises in Jewish history, who can maybe point you to the right person to assess it. From that point, then you can decide whether to restore it or not.
