Hi everyone!

Just reserved/purchased an ACA from Whiteflash and am having some cold feet. I have been heavily researching diamonds for the past 1.5 years and pestering my boyfriend of 7.5 years about taking the plunge. I spent the day yesterday looking at everything I could about diamond color and watching the GOG videos re: color. The differences between the diamonds in the colorless range and within the near colorless range were barely perceptible to me, but the cost differences were substantial. I have seen countless diamonds here that are J's and below and have thought that they are beautiful.

My diamond will be set in a solitaire so no problems with competing there. I'm fairly certain that I'm one of those girls that color doesn't bother me.

But...I would love to see some pics of your J's with stats (cut quality, +/- fluor) to reassure me that I made the right decision!

Hi lapeirroja! The centre stone in my engagement ring is a J, .70ct AGS000 with negligible fluorescence, and one of my diamond studs is a J colour Whiteflash ACA, also with negligible fluorescence. I looooove them, and in most lighting they look super white!

Here's my BGD H&A 1.261 J SI2. AGS Ideal 0. Negligible fluorescence.
I am not really color sensitive, and was willing to go down in color and clarity to get size. For me, the sparkle in my stone really outweighs any hint of color...it definitely isn't an icy white, but I don't even really see any warmth of the J color.

Cant wait to update this thread with my J... on it's way from WF! Not sure if I will be allowed to see the glamour shots or if I will get to see it when it arrives OR if I will have to wait for the proposal...

Honestly spend the money and see it in person. You are only going to see gorgeous pictures here. What you see irl is what matters. People have differing color sensitivities. Also if you're wearing otter Diamonds like another ring or will have a halo setting see in real life how the J looks with F/G sides.

Regarding GOG:
Like countless others on this forum, I could never begin to express my deepest thanks to the staff/family of GOG, especially Rhino, for all of their hard work and dedication to educating people about diamonds. The AVRs and AVCs are truly a marvel. My FI and I visited GOG about a year before the proposal to see the AVRs in person. (Although we hadn't even talked seriously about engagement at that point, he was interested because he knew about my fascination with diamonds and GOG. I of course saw this as the perfect time for an education session, hehe.) We took a megabus to NYC and then took the metro and walked to the store. They spent SO MUCH time with us and then, even when we didn't buy anything, they insisted we allow a staff member to give us a ride back to the metro stop because they didn't want us to walk in the rain. These people have amazing heart and are truly one of a kind in the business.

And now for the ring....

These are vendor shots, it should arrive tomorrow!

Center stone is my original engagement ring stone, engaged when we were 19. It's not cert'd, but .5 ct approx J-K SI1 in a patented cut called a "Centillion" cut - 100 facets.

The pendant is 18k white gold, set with 12 5-pointers, .6 ctw for the pendant setting.

I have good news and bad news...(kinda )
Good news:
I looooooove my ring!! The setting could not be more perfect! I loved it when I saw it online, I loved it when I saw the sample at the store and I love it even more when it's holding my diamond and on my hand!

My diamond is beautiful. I really do love the facet patten of the star129. It's a different look than a traditional rb and it just speaks to me. It's amazing how much it sparkles! And it has so much more fire than what I was expecting! I can't stop looking at it!
I'm still learning how to take pics of diamond so please excuse. (all pics taken with Iphone)

Bad (kinda) news:
I'm sending my diamond back
The original plan had been to get a stone around 1.5cts...But... due to some issues with the pets our diamond budget went significantly down (long story short, our little dog was attacked by another dog and needed really expensive surgery to save her life, then a few weeks later our big dog was attacked by a raccoon)
Anyway, I came across an amazing diamond at an amazing price and decided to upgrade!
I'm a little sad to see this diamond go back so soon but I do want a larger diamond and am super excited.

and now pictures!

eta: diamond is .88ct J color SI2 STAR129
ring size 7

Hi, all. After seeing all the antique beauties posted lately, I have been dying to have one of my own. So, after searching around and reading up on vendors here at PS, I decided to contact Adam at Old World Diamonds. I decided to trade in a modern RB pendant that I never really wore and put that toward a new stone. I wanted to use the same setting as my old pendant as a cost saving measure because I plan to do a few more upgrades throughout the years until I have about a 2ct solitaire ring. So I sent the pendant off to Adam and he gave me what I feel was a very fair price for my RB. Then I inquired about a few stones I saw on his site, but when I gave him the budget and color/clarity I had in mind, he searched his inventory to come up with a beautiful stone that fit perfectly into my old setting. We've had it for a week, but my husband made me wait until Christmas morning to see it. When I opened the box, I was blown away with how beautiful it was! I am not great at photographing diamonds and there is absolutely no sun out today, so I may take a few more later in the week. Just wanted to write my review for OWD and say that without hesitation I would buy from them again. Adam has fantastic customer service and a great eye for nice stones!

About 8 months ago my BF and I started researching and looking at cushions for an engagement ring. PS was a wonderful resource and I was able to work with some great vendors with the guidance of the PS community.

During our cushion hunt, we worked with GOG, ERD, and Perry Chen at LM, who were all a pleasure to work with. I was initially looking for a stone with vintage faceting, but when Perry showed us this modern cushion it just seemed to jump out at us (please don't kill me vintage cushion lovers!).

Once we purchased the stone, it was on to settings. We spoke with LM, SK and VC regarding a halo setting. I was able to see LM and SK's pave work in person and both of their work was stunning. VC was very responsive and I would have loved to work with him but at the time I was too chicken go with someone I couldn't speak to in person; though I would love to work with VC on a future project. In the end, I just "clicked" with Steven and he was able to create this lovely piece.

My BF finally popped the question a few days ago, so now I get to share with all of you. I know that modern cushions are not everyone's cup of tea and are not as popular on PS! But everyone on PS was so helpful during my search and the info/photos from old posts were so useful, so I thought I'd return the favor to anyone just starting their search and share some pics.

Stats:
Cushion Brilliant – 8 main
GIA cert
Carat: 3.45
Color: J
Clarity: VS2
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Measurements: 9.03 x 9.02 mm
Ring size: 5.25 (which is a tad loose now that’s it winter)

I included this one in case any one wants to see a J in a fancy cut.
This is my 1.19 ct. marquise set in 14K white gold with sidestones. I do not know what color the sidestones are, but the 5 stone which is on top of the marquise is H color princess cuts. As you can tell, you cannot see the difference with the marquise and the princesses face up, although low color marquises are supposed to hold color at the tips. This one does show color from the SIDE, not from the top, at the tips, but the amount of color is slight and does not bother me.
It is an EGL graded stone and was graded as I by EGL but as J by an independent appraiser using GIA grading. The appraiser also actually said that all J's are not the same (that color grade has a wide range) and that this J was on the lower colored side of J's, although not low enough to be a K.

Here's a 1.16 J, no fluor AVC against a 1.6 G no fluor round. In daylight the tonal difference is just noticeable but pleasant, and indoors it's noticeable and still light enough to be pleasant anyway! :) If I had to do it all again it would be Js and beyond all the way. I hope your round does it for you. ETA, the AVC is AGS 0 cut and the round is GIA ex cut.
