Selling 1.5 RB

I'm sorry you're missing your oval. I think it's good that you contacted some of our vendors...Some even have a trade in option so you could check and see about that

I am sad to say that vendors are only going to allow you a a fraction of what you want for that stone. If retail for similar stones on JA is in the $8000 range, you will probably not get offers to sell it for more than $4-5. A recut would make it more appealing to buyers here, because no one is going to recommend a 1.5 ct stone with a 7mm diameter. It would be better to have a 1.3 ct stone at 7 mm that was excellent cut as far as resale goes here. I just don't think you'll get anywhere near $8k either way. So your decision is basically to keep it and use it like it is or recut to make it more beautiful for yourself, or you can try to sell it at a significant loss. You could add side stones if you want more finger coverage. If it were mine, I would recut and use it for something (pendant, right hand ring) rather than lose half my money. Then I'd save for a new ring and maybe over time you'll have a more clear idea of what you want.

Well- you summarized all my thoughts in one post, DS. Good luck with it Luvs!

Wow thank you for this, maybe a re-cut will be on my radar if I decide to keep it. I got an offer of $5000 for it, and I am checking with a vendor to see about a trade, that is if I really want another oval.

Gabriel & Co. http://www.gabrielny.com has added many halo settings to their collections. I don't think any are shaped like the ring you mentioned, but they have some nice designs. Having David Klass make you something might be an option, too. His contact information is somewhere on this board. He might have a website but you can Google for the phone number, in Los Angeles.

Since everyone has been so nice and helpful I wanted to post a few more pictures of my diamond. I would like to know if you think I for sure should have it re-cut before having it bezel set or do you think it would look pretty leaving it as is? I did email a well known vendor on here to look into it.
I really like this setting, here is the link.

I would highly recommend sending the ring to Jon at GOG and get his expert opinion on recutting it or not. If he advises against it, he has plenty of gorgeous rings he could set your stone into.

Finally got my ring back tonight. It's certified through Independent Gemological Laboratories report #2254454001.

Yet another kick while I'm down. I wish I would have known about this site long before I met my husband, I could have saved us a fortune. I was offered $5000 for my stone, which he is a friend and even he advised me to take it to local places to see what they offer. Which at this point I don't think they would be willing to give me more, unless they try making some type of "deal" to either get another oval or a better round.

I really like that bezel setting and think your stone would look lovely in it. You might find that once you have a setting you love, you'll love your diamond again.

I'm going to repost this because I think if Jon says your stone can be cut, you will be SOOOOOOO much happier with how the stone performs. It's totally worth sending the stone to him to find out.

I just emailed Jon with my ring details and to see what my next step might be with a re-cut. To be honest when I look at my diamond, I don't even know what the hell I see. It does look a little lifeless, which I did not realize until I had this thread.

luvsdmb,

so sorry to read that you are going through this...

I also had a "dead stone"... a radiant as my ering pre-PS. I was able to trade it in with the original vendor to get my oval. I am guessing that it really not an option for you? I probably side with the others suggesting to ask Jon at GOG what he thinks about a recut...you definitely want as much as you can get for it. Maybe try ebay also?

Another option that someone else suggested that I agree with also is to find a setting you are IN LOVE with and give this RB a more attractive home. That way... you can love the ring as a whole...but I totally understand that this might not be the best option if you aren't liking the stone...especially as a PS-er!

We can only learn from our mistakes... get what you can for the RB and save up for the next "upgrade" :wink2:

I really look forward to seeing what you choose in the future! However, I remember you loving many many many settings... you just gotta find "the one" and then STOP looking!!

Good luck with it luvs! I truly hope it's a candidate! I feel pretty certain that if it can be recut in to more ideal proportions, you're going to want to put that puppy on and keep it on! (And get a nice safe bezel for it!)

That's exactly why anyone would get it recut! If it's possible, the transformation would be amazing! I'm glad that you're able to consider this route and hope that it works out for you! Please keep us posted!!!

Thank you everyone for being so nice and helpful and hopefully not thinking I'm too crazy. :))
I actually started another thread only because I was looking around online at ovals. At this point I really don't know what is going to happen with my RB. I do feel like I know what I want, a plain shank with a halo. So I feel like that at least is something I have decided on.

Fingers crossed for good news on a recut... and down the road, a diamond that you'll be pleased to own and look at and wear!

Hi Luvs, I'm crossing my fingers for you that a recut will increase the value of the stone. My mom recently sold her D one carat, which was just VG/VG on cut and polish. They gave her a good price on it,but they were planning to recut it to ex/ex/ex and sell it at a much higher price. If recutting is not too expensive, getting it to 3x and removing some of the inclusions would help you get a much better price on reselling. Can't wait to see what GOG says! Good luck!!

I have decided to go ahead and sell my diamond. This is the best decision for us right now.
Thank you for all of your help and advice. I really appreciate it. :wavey:

and your decision about an oval?

I am also holding off on an oval. I did forget to mention I talked to Singlestone today and they can possibly re-cut my diamond into a OEC. Which again is something I did not know was possible. Of course they would need to see the ring in order to be sure, but I just thought it was interesting.
If the person willing to buy my diamond falls through, I may need to have a plan B. But I will deal with that when I need too.
I also had a local store willing to take a look at my ring to see if a re-cut is possible.

Well, good luck! I just hope you're ok with what you could get for it...Not sure what you're expecting, but it's always less. Let us know how it turns out!

There is another PSer who has singlestone recut their stone. It went up in clarity and color, i believe.doesanyone remember this post? It was this year.

I sold my diamond. So I have plenty of time to figure out what I want.

I did just see the oval halo plain shank ring that belongs to marierca and I love it.

Wow. I like that re-cut. But I am still happy with the decision I made.

Good for you for selling it!

Now... are you still on the hunt for an oval?

Yes. But I did make a deal with my hubby to take some time off from rings.(I will continue to look)

But I had to share these few pictures. To my surprise the diamonds aren't huge and I still liked them.

I am just so unsure of the plain shank vs diamonds. For whatever diamond I end up with.

I've taken a large break from PS after selling my diamond. I look at the site when I get the weekly email from them.

It's got me to thinking about all the posts I've made and bad decisions so I felt like I wanted to update my account.

It's funny and I hate to admit it but you all were RIGHT !!. I should have looked into having my diamond re cut or just waited and held onto it., although it's only been this week that I got to thinking about this junk diamond I got instead of my oval (which I still miss).

I have since gotten a OEC seven stone band, and a thin band I also wear plus a plain wedding band (I really like bands) Im still deciding what type of diamond I want but I'm taking my time.

I appreciate this site and everyone who has responded. Sometimes I wish I hadn't found the site because then I wouldn't know all the different types of diamonds out there, but then I wouldn't know and I love love love chunky OEC so I am glad I found it!!

Thanks

Hi luvsdum, thank you for the update! I understand needing to take a break from diamonds, it can get overwhelming sometimes. Congrats on your OEC band, I'll bet it's beautiful and I'm glad you're enjoying all your bands. Good idea to take your time finding another diamond, there's really no rush lol. Don't beat yourself up over past diamond decisions, you did what you thought was best at the time and there are other diamonds out there. It's great hearing from you, hope all is well!

Thank you for the nice words!!
I do like my OEC band. I bought the stones and had them set in a Stuller setting.
