Hi guys,

Been a long time lurker and have gained a wealth of knowledge from this amazing site. Thanks.

Hoping you could Help me with a major decision we are trying to make.

Just to set the scene. We are based in the Uk. Attempting to find "THE" ring. Having been searching here for ages, creating mood boards on Pinterest but with no joy I stumbled across the beauty of all ring, right here on this very site.

A custom legacy from erd .

It's the one!

We've found a diamond from gog. It's a s vs1 1.07 carat. The worry is that it will be too yellow against the other pave stones.

Here's the video from GOG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLALBguuNWU&feature=youtu.be

Help and advise welcomed.

Ps. We have thought about setting the halo in rose gold ( my partner wears a rose gold wAtch and we have discussed wearing rose gold wedding bands)

Thanks guys.

Are you asking if it will be too yellow? It will have body color - no doubt there. And it will contrast against colorless melee if that's what you choose to use. Now whether that contrast is bad or not is a matter of personal preference - some people actually really like that contrast.

I'd ask GOG to look at it and see what color undertones the stone has (sometimes it's yellow, brown, brown-pink, etc). And ask them to show you what it looks like in a rose gold setting (I know they've done that before).

Do you have the stone reserved? I don't see it on their site (if you do, good!) - and it looks like a stunning performer.

Hiya. Yeah. I suppose I'm asking is it crazy yellow. I've seen the pictures etc but can't imagine what it's like in real life . We went to our local jewellery district today and they advised us not to go over anything a J?!?! I couldn't believe it. They said no one wants this type of diamond - it was rubbish! Personally I couldn't understand as the yellow diamond rings were about x3 the price of the others.

I should have said. My personal preference is for it not to be too blingy. I like it to be a bit more old fashioned looking. Understated perhaps. I'd like the vintage look and personally like the warmer colours but not sure it's right? Having never seen such a diamond In real life I can't imagine exactly how yellow it is. The video doesn't make it look too colourful IMO

We did reserve it. Agreed re performance. It has some great symmetry etc. I like it! I'm just confused now. Perhaps the uk is full of diamond snobs.. ..

I don't know if yellow is the right term. I think it looks more like a soft white or antique white. I think when you go with a warmer stone it makes a new stone look older.

I think I would like the contrast of the whiter melee but if you are concerned maybe you could see if they have warmer melee. Though the suggestion to put it in rose is a great idea too.

hope that helps

Many true antique stones were (are) lower colors - and they look good that way (imo). Like a soft lace or candlelight color, and it's beautiful. And this S AVC will have body color.

There are 2 schools of "modern" thought when it comes to e-rings - either go "white" (J or above) or go yellow (Y-Z or fancy yellows). An S is really middle ground - it isn't yellow - if it was it would be graded as a yellow. But it does have body color - the question for me at this saturation level is what tone is it?

Have GOG pull the stone, look at it, have them take pics of it on a flat white background (maybe next to a whiter stone for comparison), and have them also take pics of it in a RG setting. It is a beautifully cut stone, no question there - but I don't think that video shows the level of body color at all. And you will see it - it's just a matter of whether or not you like it.

Here's a thread with a beautiful O-P colored OMB for comparison, and it is stunning. https://www.pricescope.com/communit...y-2-30-ct-omb-antique-cushion-upgrade.158760/

Thanks again guys. Really appreciate your input.

We did ask for it against a J and L. I can't do it from here but shall get on a computer and show you the difference. We also managed to photoshop onto a rose gold halo. To see the difference.

Shall try and upload them

You will have to love contrast to set an S color stone in a halo. SB has an N-O in a halo and she loves it, and I think it is gorgeous. You'll see even more tint in an S, of course. But only you will know if you are happy with the color in a halo. The actual color of the stone matters as to the metal choice. Some low color stones are yellowish, some are brown, some are gray. I think the brownish ones look good in rose gold, but not the yellow ones. I'd rather have the yellow in platinum but maybe make the bezel next to the stone yellow gold to accentuate the yellow.

Here is SB's ring:

Several pictures down you can see she also has a three stone ring with an O-P center, just to help you visualize color.

Thanks diamondseeker2006 that's really helpful. Gives me a great idea. Exactly what I was hoping to see.

Hers the pictures I was trying to send last night.

Left - right. Order goes 1.05 J VVS1 - 1ct L VS2 - 1.06 S VS2. I think I'm going off setting this particular stone in rose gold. The colours won't match. IMO.

The difference in color between the above diamonds would be much more intense in real life than it is in the picture you have posted. I speak from personal experience, because i have seen stones in those colors in real life and i have compared them the one next to the other. If you haven't seen an S colour diamond in real life, be cautious.
The August Vintage cushions are diamonds which sparkle like crazy and they look gorgeous, so i'm sure that the stone will be an excellent performer, but if you want a diamond that looks white or creamy or off white, an S color will not satisfy you.
I believe that especially when somebody is shopping for an engagement ring, they need to SEE an S color diamond in order to make an informed decision.
And definitely it will make a huge contrast with the colorless diamonds in a halo setting.
I own an M color diamond, which was set in a white gold setting with G color melee stones and i just couldn't live with it...I had it reset in a solitaire setting.
Good luck and i hope that you finally make the best decision and come back to show us what you got with hand shots :appl:

Thanks again for all of your guidance.

With your advice we decided against the S and went with the J. I must say that this was definitely the correct decision, for my engagement ring. So thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Against the melee (spelling wrong - sorry) the S would defo have been too warm. If this was a ring for any other occasion I wouldn't mind at all but this is my only E-ring and it's to last me a lifetime!

So the AVC - What can I say?! WOW! this is a beautiful stone. Exactly what I wanted. Bling without the bling. If you get what I mean. It is, in my opinion, a classy option. Vintage but with enough sparkle. I don't ordinarily wear jewellery and when I do, I prefer it not to be in your face. GOG were amazing, really helpful and patient. Can't recommend them high enough.

The ring itself was made by ERD and again the execution of the design is spectacular. I've not seen anything like it in the UK. I'd say that the craftmanship really is fantastic. Postage to the UK took only 3 days. Which is also amazing!
There have been a few hiccups - some we are still trying to work out. But I wont comment on those until we have a suitable resolution, that wouldn't be fair.

All in all we are delighted with the ring. It's better than I could have hoped for. There is always a nagging doubt that since you are doing all of this over the internet, without meeting anyone, or seeing these diamonds, that you are going to get an inferior product. This couldnt be further from the truth. We actually went to our local jewellery 1/4 in Scotland to compare our ring to those selling in the shops. There was no comparison!!! And cost wise - UK prices are significantly higher for an off the peg design and diamonds which don't even come close to the AVC.

If I were to describe how I feel about the entire ring. WOW!  I cant take my eyes off it. I love nothing more (other than perhaps my other 1/2!) No shoes, handbag, car, houses, clothes, perfume, candles, new bedsheets etc. etc. can compare to the overwhelming love I have for this ring. It's everything and more than I could ever dream of. I feel like a Disney princess. My fairytale has certainly come true!

Once I get the ring back in my possession I shall post some pictures.

But thanks again. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge. :D

Sounds completely wonderful - can't wait to see your pictures!!

Pics please!

Wow, what a wonderful ending to your story. Can't wait to see the ring. I want to feel that way about my ring... :D
