This is a very good thing and I hope that the GOP learns from it. Steve Bannon is effing up a lot of things for them. I might have to change to I like my DH. We both have been unhappy the last few years with how the parties have become. I wish our country could allow the rise of a true Independent party but the grip of power is too strong and the people are too complacent or too far right or left.
You are feeling plucky and well enough to engage me today LOL. I agree with most of what you said and I have posted my views plenty of times here. Which is what I am really saying when I say a third party, I really mean someone with the views of being fiscally conservative while more socially "liberal" because I do not give a hoot what other people do in their personal lives as long as it is within the law. People should mind their own business more and that goes for both parties. But that cannot happen because people and parties are too entrenched and must have the power to decide for others what is best for everyone. Not my cup of tea so I am stuck voting what is closest or not at all.OK, given that a party is supposed to have goals - a platform - what would an Independent Party look like?
It's one thing to say you (as in a person, not as in you Red) are independent, but if you don't have enough people who agree with you, you can't get things done in politics, or elections. Independence as it is used today, seems to mostly mean a person is proud of being selective, dare I say it, a unique snowflake. A cafeteria voter who wants a party tailored to their tastes. Which always reminds me of my personal favorite for stupidest slogan E.V.E.R: "An Army of One".
The reason Sanders didn't run as the candidate of the party that he actually always belonged to, is not that they aren't allowed, has nothing to do with shadowy power or complacency, it's just that our system has been overwhelmingly 2 party since the beginning. It's also that by many state rules there are not enough people in those parties to warrant the expense of putting them on a ballot underwritten by state monies. I do recall the hubs telling me that there was a time early on when parties actually printed their own ballots. And of course states still reserve the right to determine the rules governing who gets put on national ballots - states' rights at its very best, yes? So if by state rules you don't have enough supporters (or are too disorganized to make a deadline) to even field a candidate on a primary ballot, why on earth should you be on a national one? And then of course, there are the requirements of the actual electoral college, a complex topic unto itself.
And all that is to say that for most 3rd parties are too narrow (Democratic Socialists?) that there aren't enough people agreeing nationally, to get their candidate elected outside of a primary in a few states. Since elections (pretty much everywhere) have to be won by actual majorities, not, say, 28% as would be required to have 3rd parties be anything other than spoilers, our whole voting structures would have to be seriously restructured to allow coalitions of smaller parties to combine votes to get to a majority. Or everyone would have to get happy with a true minority in power, lording it over the majority. I'm thinking that's not going to fly here.
So by all means, start that party. But independent Red and independent Tekate or Callie, are NOT going to agree enough to be in the same party. Unless of course, the only thing you really want to agree upon is wanting to be spoilers for some larger party's primary, which means at primary time you will have Red trying to spoil it for the Democrats and Callie trying to spoil it for the Republicans - which means we're back to the same 2 party thing.
So, back to that platform....? What would your Independent Party stand for?

Edit - I agree on the Army of One thing. I hated it. Total idiocy.
For me neither party is fiscally responsible and government is not the answer for everything.
And now the excuses and distancing begins!!!! Trump had to be losing his mind last night.
The deck was stacked against him in ALABAMA????? BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Trump is such a piece of shit.
And this is precisely why religious zealots like Moore should be kept out of office at all costs.

Now you know how Sanders feel!..Poor Roy. He worked hard but the deck was stacked against him. Wouldn't that make him a "loser" in Trump's view?
Oh FFS. There aren’t enough eyeroll emojis on the planet.
Moore does not belong in the Senate...
Holy wow. He sure does have himself convinced that he’s fooling everyone, doesn’t he?And this is precisely why religious zealots like Moore should be kept out of office at all costs.

I was thinking of sending him that black cake from the other thread...He HAS fooled nearly half of Alabama voters.
Revolting!
But according to the reasoning displayed by some Einsteins here I'm a bigot for discriminating against a child molester.
He's a Christian, and Christians get to do whatever they want, including infiltrating government to force their religion onto everyone.
If you don't go along with that programing you're a bigot!
Has anyone seen the interview with Jake tapper & Ted Crockett? OMG hilarious.

If you don't want to watch all 10m, please just skip to about 8:45 and watch the 1:15. He is so so dumb.
Uhhh....oh......man....
How do people that stupid even survive?

I tried to watch it. But it wouldn't run except for the first two minutes or so before stopping for me. So I had absolutely no way of finding a certain time and watching for a certain number of minutes. I would have loved to have done that. I even considered going to YouTube and trying to find another recording of the show to see if another one would play better for me!
I don't know why I wanted to see this. People who speak for Roy Moore and Donald Trump always want to make me punch televisions and radios. (I tend to turn off Donald Trump himself on the radio lest I commit homicide and suicide while driving my large and lethal car.) That man really makes me angrier than anyone should be able to make me.
Nonetheless, I guess I wanted to watch stupid.

The article does describe it, but there's a little bit of just dead air with the guys stupid face like "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" that I find really hilarious.
