hey guys, i ordered a ritani ring about 6 months ago and just proposed last week however my new fiance pointed out that 1 of the melee in the halo looked cloudy. i never noticed it before but i guess the fact she constantly was staring at it may have helped. all of the other melee are fine except the one right in the corner. we ended up popping into a local jeweller to have a look and they said it looked "hazy or cloudy" as well. They ended up taking it out back for a quick clean but afterwards was still the same. The center is a H VS2 and melee are all H color and VS2 according to ritani which makes that 1 lonesome melee stand out. i bought the ring from one of the vendors from pricescope and they advised to send it back which will take roughly 2.5weeks and i have to pay shipping just not the insurance on the shipping i wonder if it would be cheaper if i just went to a local jeweller and got that one replaced if it would save time and possibly be a little cheaper. anyway i was writing this more as to gauge if anyone else has had something similar from ritani or any other designer before, could it just be a dodgy melee? i will try and take a photo but im not sure if u will see it. any thoughts?

You shouldn't have to pay shipping if it's a manufacturing defect. They should pay it for you.

Alternately, you can contact Ritani directly and ask them if you can go to their local vendor near you and have them send it back to Ritani for you.

thanks gypsy but im in australia so im not sure if that has anything to do with the shipping, but i also dont know if ritani have anything here in aus. im about to upload a pic in about 3mins or so

the melee in question is the top right. it looks more noticeable in person than in the photo though

Hmm, yeah, that stone does look dull. Send that picture to Ritani and raise hell.

It's quite obvious. The stone could be broken or just a bad stone. I would contact your vendor or Ritani directly. Perhaps they can give you a small fee to get the stone replaced locally.

just an update. i spoke with ritani and they dont really wanna know about it and say to deal with whiteflash. they arnt responsible as it wasnt purchased from them directly. blows my mind to be honest, thought they would be more apologetic etc but nope didnt get that at all, just you will need to deal directly with whiteflash

If the setting was purchased through WF, and pictures do justify that the right corner is cloudy, I am a little surprised that WF sent it to you that way. Is it possible that your fiancé hit it on something and chipped the stone. My wife does this all the time with the melee in the halo and the shank.

I was looking at your previous photos of the ring here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ritani-cushion-has-arrived.202099/#post-3678571#p3678571 and dont seem to see the defect. If this defect had been there before they shiped it, it would definitely show up on the WF glamour photos of the ring. They usually take two shots of it, one head on and one profile. Do you still have those photos? You could post them up here for us to have a look.

I couldn't see the cloudy stone in the older photos either... is it possible your FI could've damaged it unknowingly??

Looks like the stone may have been damaged. Maybe you should get a quote from a local jeweler. I don't think I would ship it out for one melee replacement. Maybe try talking to someone else at Ritani or a manager.

Looks cloudy to me as well from that photo. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this frustrating incident so shortly after a proposal!

It is quite possible the stone was damaged from normal wear. Those melee stones aren't always well protected and it could have cracked with just the right angle on an impact.

Let us know how it goes with Whiteflash.

If you only noticed this after having the ring for 6 months, you broke a diamond. They're actually very easy to break, especially since your halo design leaves the edges of the melee exposed. It happens, get a quote from a good local jeweler and have it replaced. I've had melee replaced for about $50 US. Your melee look a little larger so it might be a bit more but it shouldn't be terribly exoensive to repair.

I cracked a stone in my halo... It looked just like this! Same corner..

...crap, now I'm paranoid about my halo diamonds!! :errrr: :errrr:

Yep, it looks broken to me. It shouldn't be that expensive of a fix and is rather simple. it happens to the best of us. Hands swing and things get bumped. It stinks but it's not the end of the world.

Me too. Are smaller diamonds more fragile to crack like that, or could the same bump, had it been, for example a 0.1ct or 1ct, cracked them too?! I expect that stone was at least SI clarity?

hey guys thanks for the help, i ended up going to a reputable jeweller local to me and they are able to replace the stone for approx $55 and will take 5 days. however as we are leaving to visit family for a few days it will have to wait until we get back. they seem to think its fractured, although there are no signs of it being hit anywhere on the ring or on the stone itself. the jeweller seems to think it may have happened when it was originally set. is it possible that it wouldnt show up until it collected oils or something???. either way its a pretty cheap and quick fix so instead of sending it away i'll just deal with it locally. thanks for the help, its great having so many knowledgeable people.

One Year Service Policy does not cover damage or loss to certified diamonds or colored gemstones. Please consider personal jewelry insurance for that protection. The one year service policy is void if work has been performed by another jeweler.

^ Just be aware that having your jeweler do it voids that 1 year service policy. But I'm uncertain of just what value that service policy is. Did you aks them if it covers pave' in the setting? (I didn't read this entire thread.)

yeh i realise it voids the 1 year service thing but i have insurance on the ring as a precaution anyway so im not too worried if something major happens

I could have easily picked ut which stone you were referring to even before you said anything. It's not right. Demand that it be fixed at no additional charges (like shipping) to you. Good luck!

Hi dazza,

I have just come across your forum and notice that you have the exact ring that I have been drooling over for the past couple of months. I also noticed you are in Australia! I'm in Sydney :wavey:
Is it possible to get you to post some pictures of the ring on your fiancé (or wife)'s hand? Would also be interested to hear what size finger your partner has and what wedding band you went with?

Kind regards,
