Resetting Cost?

I want to reset my ring already (after 2 months).

I've realized that white gold/platinum just looks horrible on me and i want to reset it with rose gold. I originally decided against rose gold because of the trendiness, but i have tan skin and it would really make a difference for it now to stick out so much!

Does the fact that I already purchased the mini diamonds help with the resetting fee normally? I almost feel like a fool asking the jeweler at this point. I should have said something immediately.

I have a pave split shank with a hidden halo setting (in white gold)!!

No, folks change their minds all the time. The new setting will cost you money but there is money to be made in it for the jeweler as well. Go for it!

Are you going custom? Is that why you purchased side stones?

It sounds lovely! Show us a picture! Maybe we can persuade you that it looks great on you!

I believe any savings may get eaten up by the labor cost of resetting the pave but it might save
you a little.

You can always try to sell your current setting outright and start from scratch.

Pictures would be helpful.

Edit...you might want to contract DK for a quote. Might need to send him a picture.

I believe OP's ring was made by DK, if I recall correctly :)

I think, OP, if you want a new setting and you have budget for a new setting, go for it. Most likely you would be purchasing a completely new setting, not having him transfer melee from the original to the new. But your jeweler will give you your options.

You might be able to recoup a bit of the cost by attempting to sell the original setting. You might also be able to--if funds allow--keep the setting just in case, down the road, you'd like to go back to the original metal

Thanks for the help everyone! I was hoping to only pay $1500 lol and that's probably not going to happen so I'll hold off for now. Don't get me wrong - i Love it!

I just haven't had silver/white gold colored jewelry in some time and didn't realize it would be such a stark contrast on my skin! I've been on alot of tropical vacations this year too so i'm quite tan.

I shouldn't have listened to any of my friends and just went with the rose gold I originally wanted. No biggie though!! Thanks so much for the help!! :)

True dat! People change their minds frequently.
One thing we have to discuss a lot with folks who have pavé rings: Reusing the little diamonds from the pavé.
Here's what we have to tell them- the labor required to remove a .01ct diamond from a pavé setting is more than the cost of the stone- plus some will inevitably get chipped during removal.
So generally, the small stones are not going to help with recovery- far better to buy new ones.
Selling the setting will be the best way to recover IMO.....

Just thinking out loud....If you're willing to pay $1500 out of pocket, maybe consider selling your ring at an attractive discount and putting that towards the new setting? For example (I have no idea what your current setting cost but let's just say $2500), selling your current setting for $1000 would be 60% off for a buyer and you could still put the $1500 out of pocket from the $1000 from the sale for a new setting....

Regardless, it would be worth talking to DK about this if you're really regretting your decision. He wants his customers to be happy and may be able to work with you. I don't know for sure, but it's worth a conversation...worst he could say is no, right?

That totally makes sense! Thank you!

Just a thought, but could your setting be plated in rose gold?
That would give you the look with a very modest outlay. Though you would be looking at a replace probably annually.

@lagirlie, FWIW, I think your ring looks lovely with your skin tone. Regardless of how tan you are (contrast is a good thing!).

+1 My wife has very tan skin (she's Hispanic ) and very much prefers white gold or platinum. Yellow and rose gold just blends into her skin and gets lost.
