Who's Alj

Yes, the day when the sun rises from the west! ...
.

Where is Alj these days?. A debate b/t Alj and T will be like the first Ali and Frazier fight in 1971 between 2 undefeated heavyweight champions.

Ooops, I forgot, Alj did lose 1 debate on PS and every PSer was :o when she got down on her knees and surrendered. bowdown.gif Alj's PS debate record is 33 and1 .

:) no worries.. it's confusing for those types ;-)

@Tekate It was me who mentioned her HUGE house and republican meeting. My response was deleted, so apparently someone was extremely offended by pointing out these odd brags....

Who's Alj

aljdewey is a poster that (unfortunately) hasn't been here for many years. Back in the day there were some "spirited" exchanges and alj was often in the middle of the fray!

I stand corrected: I just looked and alj posted last year. Seems like longer -- I miss her!

I was thinking of her and Mara the other day.

Me too actually! And you can't think of alj without Mara, or Mara without alj.

Yeah, They used to gang up on DF every night..boxinggy2.gif ;(

Who's Alj
The greatest debater in PS history. She was just like you T. She will not let go till she wins..... She have a winning record of 33 and 1 and her only lost was to a guy who is still active on PS today...

I know you’re probably wilfully ignoring the point, but staying at home doesn’t kill people. Going out can kill people.

Surprised this hasn’t been posted already, but I found this to be a very under-reported statistic out of NY; seems SIP isn’t as COVID-combative as people thought ... at least, not for NYers.

And Cuomo damn sure deserves blame for shoving COVID+ patients back into nursing homes; I was beyond sickened hearing the number of resulting, unnecessary deaths in NY. That it was somehow ‘justifiable‘ because Samaritans Purse is a religious org that some people were supposedly offended by is nothing short of sheer ignorance. We are ALL making accommodations to our freedoms, rights, beliefs, routines, etc. through this pandemic; and if it’s truly THAT serious to shut down our country & economy and for people to ‘shame‘ non-mask-wearers & compromise our individual rights to privacy, then it’s also THAT serious to put your own ‘feelings’ about religion aside and leverage the help being offered to save lives.

Yes, that was a terrible mistake on Andrew Cuomo's part. :(

"The directive to force nursing homes to take in COVID-19 patients at the risk of others drew pushback from nursing home officials as well as the AMDA, the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, which said that "admitting patients with suspected or documented COVID-19 infection represents a clear and present danger to all of the residents of a nursing home."

@DF - what is your point?

I thought maybe DF was redefining ‘Win’ as endlessly ranting in a semi-coherent manner, responding to the voices in one‘s head as opposed to the comments/arguments actually stated and then digging in based on a predetermined political view rather than engaging critical thinking skills. Then when the opponent walks away from the crazy and unstable argument it is counted as a win.

But maybe that’s not what he meant...

I think a lot of people are lying and fudging their definitions of SIP. I see my neighbors (both women in their 30's) having their parents come and stay at their house (and who knows who the parents interacted with). They have friends come and visit and hang out on their front and back decks. A LOT of people are still "visiting" family. They might stay outside for an hour but eventually run in the use the bathroom. People are shopping where they can plenty and often don't wear a mask correctly. There's still plenty of opportunity for transmission.

The natives are getting restless. I completely agree that people are lying. It’s human nature not to restrict yourself. That is why I keep arguing that the government can only do so much. Quarantining is not natural and some people have caved a lot earlier than the rule followers. It’s kind of like in a classroom. You have the A students who are total rule followers, then you have the ones who don’t care—at all! And a lot of in between. I’m surrounded by rule breakers!! And what is odd, is that our numbers as of yesterday, have not significantly spiked. That’s 3 weeks after the protests and 2 after 80k beach goers ignored social distancing and masks. But maybe it’s too soon to tell. According to my local newspaper, most of the spikes are from inmates and nursing homes.

I think it's just different here since we live in such close quarters and there's so much spread to begin with. I live in Nassau County, about 5 miles from the border with Queens. I really believe so many people are asymptomatic. Especially now with allergy season, unless you're ill enough to go to the hospital there's pretty much no way to know. I know we can get tested and whatnot but even those are so unreliable with false negatives.

I think you're probably right. They came from "home" but who did they have come visit them, who in their family are going out but perhaps young and healthy enough not to get sick themselves, are they going out to get groceries and not protecting themselves correctly, are they going out for walks, etc. So many variables that can explain the high number of SIP population being sick.

I was curious about what will happen weeks following the protests and people going out to beaches. But remember that numbers only indicate whoever was actually tested. For all we know the infected are asymptomatic themselves and spreading the virus to their communities. It might take awhile until it infects enough of population that develop severe enough symptoms to be tested.

This not being able to test the general population is preventing us from seeing the full picture...

Huh??? It wasn’t because they are simply a religious organization, it’s because they took advantage of the situation to further their anti-lgbt agenda after they ‘promised’ they wouldn’t discriminate and follow mt Sinai policy and procedures. Franklin Graham is a pretty terrible person. He thinks students being taught about gay rights is akin to a ‘moral 9/11’. He justifies discriminating against lgbt folks by comparing them to drug addicts or alcoholics who drink on the job. He turned away MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS if they wouldn’t sign a statement that they opposed gay marriage.
maybe you believe all of that is cool, but a lot of New Yorkers actually’ y’know, care about people for more than their sexual proclivities.

Yes. Of course. It’s only been three weeks. But I’m also not naive to think that the rule breakers just broke out 3 weeks ago. I suspect some have never observed social distancing and quarantine from some posts on social media. Also, remember that masks were not considered mandatory until a month ago? We have been dealing with asymptomatics this entire time and still, our hospitalization stats and ICU stats and death stats have not increased significantly. We will see. But these numbers are emboldening my community. As far as I’m concerned, they can keep testing the waters as I sit tight.

This. Sad to say, but I am watching those states that are reopening with much interest. Time will tell.

Not one single patient - the people SP actually went there voluntarily to help - was turned away to my knowledge. SP committed to not discriminate against patients needing assistance; and they are exempt from NY’s anti-discrimination laws per NY’s law. They have a right to require representatives of their org to agree & adhere to their policies.

Simply (but sadly) put: NYC put identity politics, sex and ‘feelings’ above saving lives; I find that utterly disgusting considering it’s the epicenter of U.S. COVID-hell with the highest #s of cases & deaths. Meanwhile they have no problem chastising people for not wearing masks & social distancing, and criticizing other states for how they choose to handle the virus in their states?

SP aside, the availability of the Javits Center hospital and Navy medical ship means there was ZERO reason for a single patient to be forced back into an assisted living facility to die as well as transmit the virus to others to die. There is NO excuse except politics and inept leadership. NY leadership (and NYers who support them) have no room to judge or criticize any other state or government leaders.

of course the biggest amount of people are going to be home to hospital transfers.
Every where it says if you have symptoms stay home unless they get bad enough you have to go to the ER.
#1 location of transport to ER nationwide by a wide margin for anything? Homes.
The whole thing is stupid FUD!
If you did a chart for heart attacks it would look almost exactly the same.

Yup!, Uhhuh.gif

All true, but here in ny Cuomo had other options. We had a huge excess of covin beds on the uss comfort and in the Javits center. We also had an underutilized Covid emergency hospital in Central Park (Samaritan’s purse sponsored). Cuomo decided not to direct the elderly patients to these facilities. Rather, he sent them back to the nursing homes. Nursing homes are not hospitals. I just do not know what he was thinking.

Yes, just lost my grandmother last week to this line of decision-making. To be honest, I am furious and am not looking forward to hearing my mother cry tomorrow. It is shameful.
