I am upgrading from a 1.5 ct emerald cut to a 2.5 ACA
I am color sensitive but I have a right hand ring from Whiteflash and the center is a well cut J set in a bezel. I do not notice the tint. However I have diamond earrings that I believed were an I/j but recently found out they are closer to a K and I defiantly notice the tint especially when I am wearing with the jackets because those are lower color stones. The earrings aren’t certified and I have no idea of the quality.

My dilemma is do I get a I color SI1 ACA 2.5 cut or for very similar cost a 2.75 J vs1 ACA?

I am nervous about seeing a tint. The main reason I am upgrading is for the larger size and brilliance.

The stone will be set in a halo setting.

Thanks

I think no one can help you with that, unfortunately. My bottom limit on modern rounds is I color, and I prefer G-H. So I'd choose the I color one, although it would have to be really clean if SI1. You may prefer a little tint and larger size. The answer will vary with each person's preferences. Sounds exciting, though!

@cherij0411 WF is great about providing video and photo comparisons and you might ask them for some. I was recently close to changing my center stone to a larger J but noticed a significant difference between the particular J vs an I color and that bothered me. Nonetheless, we all have different color perceptions and it might be completely different for you.

I second this advice! They are happy to help people figure out their own preferences in terms of size, color, etc. I would make sure to ask them for pics in a few different lights so you can be confident in your decision :)

The size and clarity would trump the color for me.

If the stone will be in a halo, how much of the side of the stone will you see?

If not much, the top-notch cutting of the ACA stones should mean they look much whiter from the face-up view (which is all you'll see if the halo is covering the side view) in most lights, so you might well be safe with a J.

What colour will the halo be? You will need to request perhaps I/J or H/I stones at the highest if you want to avoid the main stone looking a different (more tinted) colour than the melee.
