Hi all, I previously posted my first thread here at PS here: Battle of 2 Diamonds and got many great responses! So firstly, thank you! :) PSers were recommending me to check out many other places despite my stubbornness to stick to Blue Nile due to the Zac Posen knife edge setting, and I am happy to say that I have! I have a list of Brian Gavin Diamonds, CBIs and ACAs that I am reviewing BUT I wrote this thread because was thrown off by a surprising contender here with this Blue Nile diamond.

Now, i've evolved from 2 weeks ago (when i posted my first thread) and now i've learned to look deeper into the ideal proportions of a diamond. I refer to Ideal Proportions from Nice Ice to make sure that I shortlist diamonds within those proportions.

Here's the interesting thing, while looking at the amazing diamonds from BGD, CBI and ACA, I came across this amazing 1.41ct diamond from Blue Nile which falls perfectly into the ideal proportions (HCA score: 1.3) and what's more, it's not even under their premium Astor brand. I've reached out to Tesie from Blue Nile to enquire more about the diamond and here's all the info I have on the diamond. They even provided me an ASET scope, something that - from what i've read - is SUPER RARE when dealing with diamonds from Blue Nile.

Yes i know there's light leakage in the centre but I've seen some of the ASET images from JA's True Hearts diamonds and they look about the same! Surely it wouldnt create what people would call the "ring of death" would it? Furthermore, Tesie has assured me the pink hues in the centre would most certainly show up Red if seen under an Ideal Scope. Please let me know if my untrained eye is missing anything :geek:

Chat conversations with Tesie:

When asked about the Cloud inclusion at the side of the diamond:Screenshot 2020-03-19 at 4.37.34 PM.png

When asked about why this diamond is not classified as Astor - their premium branded selections:

What do you guys think? Did I hit the jackpot with this find? Am I missing something critical? I have the diamond reserved for me so I would love to get your feedback before I finally settle with the diamond for the engagement ring.

Thanks in advance for any replies PSers!

For those who are curious on which other diamonds i'm looking at (these should also give you the price range, type of diamonds that I'm looking at):

I would stay in the 1.2+ range and F or more color range according to your needs.

All the Super Ideal branded stones will be good options as far as cut (this excludes the JA stone). You just need to decide on the size/color/clarity.

I would want to see an aset image on the JA stone and the AGS cert. So, without that info I'm a no on that one for now
plus, I think there are branded stones (better cut) close in specs and price range that would be better options IMO.

Thanks for your reply! I do also actually think 1.2+ is a good size considering that my girlfriend’s finger size is a mere 3.5.

Good point. I was definitely a little hesitant on the JA stone because only the ideal scope was provided and not the ASET. Will take the JA off the shortlist.

I just got a BGD Signature Hearts and Arrows and it’s AMAZING. I’ve owned other diamonds so I have a basis of comparison and the BGD is absolutely fabulous. They are currently doing a special on 5 stones every 48 hours so you might be able to get an outstanding diamond for a great price.

@headlight yes for sure. I'm actually currently served by Emily from BGD and their diamonds speak for themselves! seeing how you have a basis of comparison, do you have any thoughts on the BN diamond i mentioned in the original post in this thread? :)

If you can afford a super ideal don’t waste your time on anything else.

Yes they are...;))

@Dancing Fire I see that you're somewhat of a legend on this forum. Do you have any comments on the BN diamond above? The proportions of the diamond seems near perfect but the ASET scope seems unflattering (perhaps bad camera quality?). What do you think sir?

I can't comment about BN b/c I had never purchased from them. however, I have had purchased from HPD, BGD and WF in the past whom are great inhouse vendors. I'm sporting a CBI from HPD. My daughter's Ering is from BGD.

Ah~ i was hoping that the GIA report and ASET scope image were enough to get your comments on the rock.

Excellent looking diamonds you have there!!:kiss2:

Thanks, I'm not an expert on reading the ASET like some of the members here.

Nothing wrong with the ASET or the stone.
It passes the ASET test with flying colors, the person taking it needs to tone the back light down just a tad.
It is very far away from having a ring of death.
It is very well cut stone.

Thanks for your comment @Karl_K ! That is indeed very comforting to hear and I was hoping for similar comments such as yours so thank you!

I think you want to buy the BN stone, so you should buy it!

Me and my untrained eye wasn’t going to buy it until i got some confirmation from experienced PSers that it was a great diamond :)

Don't dismiss the stone just because it is not a superideal vendor.

It is a very well cut stone (ASET does not leakage), is if it better aligned to your budget and other parameters. Also keep in mind update policies.

thanks for your reply @gm89uk! i definitely didn't dismiss the stone, just needed a second opinion from the highly experienced PSers here :)

Also keep in mind update policies.

did you mean upgrade* policies?

Yep sorry typo.

hey @tyty333 @headlight @Dancing Fire @gm89uk @Karl_K sorry for name dropping on you guys like that, but I am about to finalise to get the BN diamond above and being a first time buyer, all the different uncertainties are creeping in.

I realised that I was focusing so much on the cloud at the corner of the diamond (which was previously confirmed as eye clean) that I didnt really pay much attention to the crystal in near the middle of the table of the diamond. Seeing that it is a clarity VS2 diamond, do I have anything to be worried about?

I've reached out to BN to check with their "vault manager" and they'll get back to me soon but just wanted to check with you guys as well. Apologies if i'm being a little too cautious.

best checked by eye in person.

I'd guess 80+% of GIA VS2 stones are eye to most people.

I just saw this. It appears that you purchased the stone. But the photo is so enlarged that I don't think you will see that IRL.
