Please explain!

I’m sure this has been mentioned many times before and may be a dumb question, but can anyone please explain to me why some jewelers push so hard to sell you a EGL certificate diamond?
Do they make more of a profit?
...and if a jeweler does, should I run away?
As fast as I can?

EGL reports have been basically banned on many trading platforms.
Any stone with an egl report is listed as uncerted.
They trade at a steep discount because of inaccurate grading. even more than they used to before the actions by the trading platforms.
Some dealers do not pass the entire discount to consumers and make a larger profit.
They say its just as good and less extensive blan blah blah or I can offer you this G/Vs2 at 2% less than the other guys gia graded stone or even his own gia graded stone. But at the wholesale level it sells for 20%+ less.
To still be offering them today is not a good sign.

I am curious What where they saying about gia and egl? Did they address it at all?

That is another one show a lot of EGL graded stones next to a really bad and dirty GIA stone so the EGL diamonds look much better.

Likely means they don't have access to high quality stones, or don't want to pay the prices for better stones (so they get crappy ones and then sell them to customers at absurd mark ups). I would avoid this jeweler.

Ok thanks. It’s crazy because they have 500+ reviews on Yelp with a 5 star rating and every picture of the rings they have made and sold are beautiful. Now I’m thinking those are all EGL stone on those rings! Yikes!

If the diamond was correctly graded by EGL sending it to GIA for the same grade would raise its value by a lot.

I have seen a few well cut egl graded diamonds, some even that would meet the mid to high range PS acceptable criteria for cut.
The problem is they are not accurately represented on the grading report to acceptable standards in my and many others opinion.

Yup! Most in person stores are selling crappy diamonds compared to what is recommended here. That's why we recommend people buy online (unless of course they can visit one of the trusted vendors here who have physical stores).

My husband unfortunately does not like buying online even though I told him you’ll get the best value and I would get exactly what I am looking for.
With that said, do you or anyone know of any trusted PS vendors in the LA area?.
A lot of the ones mentioned on this site are in NY.

The biggest problem with the EGL diamonds, even if they are well cut, is that no one knows what the color and clarity grades really are. Are they one grade off, two, or even more? How can you spend money to buy something that is possibly as represented, possibly a little less than represented, possibly a lot less than represented or even possibly not even close to what was represented?

To me, that would make buying such a diamond in person a whale of a lot more uncomfortable than buying from a reputable online dealer with a great reputation.
