Executive Assistant

I received my bachelors in Fine Art but realized I couldn''t pay rent and eat with that degree.

Now I love my job and don''t ever plan on leaving!!!

I help people find their dream diamond. It is nice to help people at such a happy time in their lives. I really do like my job.....I will be a lawyer in Nov. of 2006 though and then I can change my profession from helping people to....well......you know what lawyers do.....hey we are the first to admit it. (maybe I will stay in the diamond business)

Major kudos to MaryAlaina who is going to lawschool after raising her kids....it is not joke...My wife and I have a baby and I understand

Right, that''s it. I want to be Matata. That is absolutely what I always wanted to do.

Buuuut... I was a teacher of English as a foreign language to adults for 14 years or so. My MA is in Linguistics and how adults learn languages.

Just when I was getting really burnt out
32.gif
I had the great good fortune to change jobs and now I work with a group of lovely women as a linguist/translator for a French company in Belgium working on web content and formatting and proofreading and translating and so on...aaand it is just wonderful. It is just great to have a meaningful relationship with a computor.

Plus I only do that for three days a week and the rest of the time I''m doing a three year, full time course in.....book binding and paper restoration.
36.gif

This is really due to my lovely husband who is very definitely the main bread winner and is happy for me to do what I want to do and not to have me tired and stressed out from teaching all day. Free time is a huge gift. I''ve wanted to do book binding for years and now I can.

I am an accountant. I absolutly hate it!! My husband (notice I used the word husband ... been married for 10 days!!!) does most of the budgeting and paying bills for us. But, I don''t know what I want to do, so I will continue to suffer for now!

I am so fortunate that I can stay home and work with animals full time. A few years ago I went back to school to obtain animal care qualifications and now can really use my knowledge and experience to help animals in need. I mainly concentrate on helping horses and cats ( and a few other species) as this is where my main expertise lies. We will soon be rescuing local unwanted cats which I am looking forward to very much. We aim to provide a safe haven for these cats until there is room at one of the local rescues. I get a lot of joy from my work and never mind that I don''t have a day off, I love it so much. I hope as time goes on I will be able to do more. Pricescope is great as I can hop on and off when I have a minute to enjoy my other passion - DIAMONDS

Great thread! Thanks for the bump!

I''m a middle school English teacher (you''re not alone Heart Prongs!). I love the kids -- yes, I think adolescents are a fascinating and fun bunch! I love the subject, too. But I''m only going into my second year, so all the planning and grading can be a real struggle for me. I''m not sure if this is what I want to do for the next 25 years, there are lots of things I want to "be when I grow up!"

I used to work in theatre in costumes (design, building, wardrobe, etc.). I loved the work most of the time, but not the schedules or the uncertain nature of future employment. Plus, one year I had to file tax returns for three different states. Life just doesn''t need to be that complicated!

I am in the film industry. I work for the largest independent movie distribution company. My actual job is doing sales--I get the movies booked into the theatres. I do a lot of negotiating and haggling but I absolutely LOVE my job. I am so lucky to be one of the few women who has a job in our shrinking business. I have worked consistently for the past 13 years since I graduated from NYU film school. I love my work because it''s a very social kind of job. I travel a lot because I have to schmooze and get to know the people I deal with on a personal level in order to make business transactions run more smoothly. And we do fun things like having conventions in Vegas and Orlando, going on fishing trips, lots of golf tournaments and endless lunches and dinners! My mother still doesn''t really understand what I do. When people ask her, she says, "she talks on the phone, travels and sees lots of movies"!!

It was outside Philadelphia and it was Willow Grove park. We would ride on it time after time. They don''t make them like they used to, god do I miss it. Thanks for bringing up a great childhood memory, hadn''t thought of it in years!!!!

ETA: They shut the park down many years ago I''m sorry to say.

Kaleigh, I remember the rollercoaster and the park before they tore it down and put up the mall. I grew up 15 minutes from there.

Well, I am new to the forum, lurking to get as much info so I can buy my GF a ring and I see that it is a great forum with great people!
I am in the Air Force and have been for almost 10yrs now, in the Space/satellites career field. I love the people that I have met and have had wonderful experiences however, I am tired of it and tired of moving around so much, I''ve moved five times in the 9 1/2 yrs so far! I want to plant some roots. The AF has been good to me, hey they paid for my Masters, what''s not to like.
36.gif
I will be looking for a "civilian" job soon, not exactly sure what I want to do.

I''m moving from the US Dept of Labor to the Dept of Justice as a state policy adviser. I haven''t actually started work yet as I''m waiting on my background check to clear, but I''m very excited, as I''ve always wanted to work at Justice!

Yeah,
NE Philly, one exit east off the turnpike. Things are soo built up around there now. I remember going to my aunt and uncle''s house in Willow Grove and there was still a bunch of farm land out there. Now it is stripe malls and houses everywhere.

This is a fun thread! Alot of nurses it seems. Kind of crushes my perception that most the people on this forum are trophy wifes or the landed gentry.

I currently work for the VA doing research. I''ve worked in an opthamology office doing research on nutritional supplementation and eye disease) got my Ph.D in cognitive psychology, worked in a taste and smell lab (aging, disease, and medication effects on taste and smell), and now working with psychiatric patients. My current job title (research health science specialist) is less prestigous than previous postion but pays more (go figure). I have to admit when I first started my current job it was both not as demanding/challenging as previous job, yet more exhausting working with patients with severe mental illness which I was not used to, so used pricescope somewhat as an escape. However, I have gotten more accustomed to my job and can accept the good and the bad of it.
Lesee, also worked at one of my Dad''s restaurants during summers (junior, high school, college), as a lab assistant in college, teaching assistant in grad school, and draw and do comics for fun.

I''m an attorney and have worked in the same industry for 27 years. Actually, I''m a title attorney, as in title to real property.
I can''t wait to retire.

I started my new job last Monday. I was the marketing coordinator and event coordinator for a major general contractor in Texas, but when we moved to California I became a development project manager for a commercial development company. So far I realize I have a lot to learn, but I am eager to get rolling comfortably in my new company. It is very interesting and I get to apply all the knowledge I have of interior design and marketing.

I also work with people like Buena Girl, Doxiemom, and Old bride.

I just graduated from UCLA with a BA in History and a BA in Political Science (so that was my job for 4 years) and I am now going to graduate school at Columbia University''s Teachers College in NYC to study History and Education (so that will be my job for 1 more year) then I deferred Boston College to fall 2006 to study Higher Education Administration (so that will be my job for another year)....

I really like education....so that is my current and future job!

I also work for my Dad''s computer company as a sales intern and researcher...

Wow, cool thread.

OldBride and I have alot in common. I work in the title industry as well, in Pennsylvania. I own a title insurance agency, mortgage company and mortgage processing company. Have been doing it for 21 years, ever since college.

While I love what I do, I would like to make a change and fly airplanes for a living. Problem is, you really can''t make much of a living flying, unless you own your a charter company. So, that''s what I aspire to do someday soon.

Interesting thread.

I am a part-time Sociology student (sophmore now by credits, I took a yr. off after H.S. and deferred 1.5 years into it) and a full-time bank teller. I actually started as a financial rep. at the bank (one of the people at the desk side) but felt the demands and work-load were too much when I wanted to go back to school again, so I took a pay cut to be a teller.

I work for the NYC government as a policy analyst. I like the intellectual stimulation, but I think I''m in for a change.

I really want to do something with animals. I''ve been doing a lot of research about animal assisted therapy. That sounds really interesting. However, I went to the zoo yesterday and I think I would love working there too.

My big problem is that I don''t want to leave NYC and I would really like to avoid going back to school. I guess I''m secretly (or not so secretly now) hoping that I''ll be laid off after the election in November...

Ooooooh - love this thread...

I am currently a claims adjuster for a large insurance company. I think my job is OK for now. I live in a small town and it a good job for these parts. My Hubby is getting a PHD, and when he does I hope to move to a larger city to put the MBA I received in 2003 to work :)

I am getting ready to become a mother (first time), so I guess that will be my "true" job for the next rest of my life!

I am currently the North Bay and Denver Regional Assistant for an automobile corporation. I collect and compile a lot of reports for my Regional Vice President, coordinate meetings and events, and all the good stuff that comes with an admin job.

I actually just got promoted to this position last month. Before this, I was the Customer Relations Manager at one of the dealerships that our corporation owns. It''s nice to know that my hard work didn''t go unnoticed. I started out working for this corporation as a cashier in the service department 3 years ago.
