What are your thoughts on this diamond plot, particularly regarding the large knot: (if GIA triple excellent, eye clean SI2)?

This diamond has a knot for the grading sI2 designation... meaning it's first on the list of inclusions as to why it's an SI2 clarity. I would recommend you stay away from this one there are other SI2 stones with better inclusions possibly eye clean.

Please ,stay away from this diamond ! It shows in green meaning that the inclusion is external ! Not only dirt can get into cracks , but the stone can get damage easily ! I would love to see this diamond in real life

Thank you for the input.

Would you stay away because of durability issues?

Also, would this type of inclusion significantly affect the value vs other eye clean SI2s of similar cut and color?

Yes and yes

Run away quickly. It's a massive durability issue and will likely negatively affect appearance as well. Not to mention that it will be a nightmare if you ever want to resell.

I want to see a pic of the stone! lol

I would love to see a pic too!

Omg..no...There are so much better SI2’s out there...

This is actually the photo of the diamond, which I thought was very pretty. There is an interesting ongoing story behind this stone, but I will wait for it to play out before posting it!

It's certainly pretty from that pic, but I'd still be super nervous

Whether or not you can see the knot - unless it was crazy cheap and safe to set in a pendant - I don’t know that I would take the risk on it.

Pic set-up looks familiar but I won’t say who I think it is from until OP identifies the vendor.

Are you sure that is the stone from that report?

Yes, I'm sure.

Tease ;)

I am interested to hear the extra detail in due course! :)

I've always wondered WHICH included crystals are called KNOTS by the GIA - I am not opposed to having one that is knotted in; the shape & texture of the boundaries with the containing crystal should tell of such differences...

Well, there are 4 inclusion setting characteristics in this stone, but it’s also an SI2, so I guess that means we should be able to see them on the image, based on the plot, which shows most in the same spot on the table and one near the girdle.

My guesses

Green is my second choice

The knot must be obvious in polarized or transmitted light; I do not expect to see anything even from the pavilion side in daylight - I'd struggle for the faint turbulence of grainy growth & fail...

The group of pinpoints shown next to the knot on the GIA plot are my best clue for where the knot is in the picture.

A knot is a crystal that reaches the surface of the diamond. So a knot will not be “knotted in” or it would be called a crystal, right?

Does the GIA report state “additional clouds and pinpoints not shown”?

@kmoro I trust you recall GIA definition.

The word 'knot' made me think that portions of crystals with different orientation may be more or less strongly bound & this can be told from the shape of the included crystal & its boundaries - perhaps details that GIA also takes into account, since they sure kow everythign there is to know about diamond crystal growth, natural & otherwise.

That would often be a Twinning wisp where the crystal orientation is twisted or 2 diamonds join together in the growth phase.

Correct, if it does not reach the surface its a crystal.

The GIA cert says "Additional pinpoints are not shown." No comment on additional clouds though.
