On DSS....

So, one of the suggestions for dealing with DSS is to wear stacking bands, the more the merrier, it seems, (https://www.pricescope.com/blog/9-tips-combat-dss-diamond-shrinkage-syndrome), but since I got my solitaire, excited about all the possibilities of stacking, I have found that stacking seems to make my diamond shrink. It seems that the stackers create a wider canvas that swallows the solitaire. Any opinions? Any pictures to prove me wrong?

No pictures but I think the thinner the bands the better. Wider bands do tend to distract from the ering IMO.

I think 2 thin bands can make the diamond pop and look a little bigger - that's how I felt when I had my solitaire anyway. A halo setting is what completely cured DSS for me though.

Here are some pics. If I had kept the solitaire I probably would have gotten a thinner plain band.

Here's the halo

The e-ring + diamond wedding band combo looks best IMO.

Junebug, I love love love your halo! From the solitaires, I think that the picture with only one band makes the solitaire pop more..which supports my theory that stacking doesn't seem to combat DSS.
Here is mine with one band and I with stacking bands to illustrate my point.

I find that I change my mind about my ring all the time. I do find that if I change up the look more often, I can combat DSS more effectively. Sometimes I just stack bands without the e-ring. Hmmm, maybe that isn't exactly what you were thinking about. Yah, maybe getting a bigger stone is the only way to go. :Up_to_something:

Though, I do the double skinny band too sometimes.

Let me just say I am trying to resist the halo. Not that I don't think they are absolutely beautiful, especially the amazing ones owned by the PSers. I just really love seeing the whole diamond with nothing around it. I love the stark beauty of a MRB in a solitaire-ish setting. I know. Mine isn't actually a real solitaire either. ;) But there is no denying the amazing finger coverage of a halo...

Thanks for the nice words about my halo setting braga! I guess it wasn't really necessary to show a pic of it, but I just kinda wanted to  :D And I thought it was interesting to see the difference - I know not everyone likes halos, but in my case it was the best solution for fighting DSS since getting a bigger stone was out.

Yeah, when I look at my pics, I guess maybe one band does make the diamond look bigger - but I enjoyed the look of more "stuff" on my finger, if that makes sense. I guess you could just play around with your bands until you get a look that pleases you. Or just mix and match as the mood strikes. The fun thing about stacking bands is you can create different looks. Your ring looks beautiful in both pics!

I think it depends on what you stack, and how much visual contrast it provides. I don't think my stackers make my center stone look smaller, per se, but if they're also white metal and diamond, there can be a kind of ... blurring effect, almost? Three quick pics to illustrate, featuring my 2.5 transitional ....

1) With my ~3 carat french cut band and a Van Craeynest band operating as a spacer

2) On its lonesome

and,

3) With alternating bands of french cuts and horizontal baguettes and Van Craeynest bands

I tend to try to break things up (ie, I wouldn't wear my carre band and my french cut bands and my horizontal baguette bands all together, because since they're all white stones in white metal, I think it would just turn into an amorphous blob of diamond). Mixing metals, tossing a colored stone band into the mix, different textures ... you name it, it can work in the repertoire. I will say that I love the variety that it offers ... I never get bored, and don't have any urge to reset! It's like sentiment +++.
