I hope your kids don''t get freaked out by the number of sarcophagi and mummies.
Do you like Japanese food? There''s a restaurant called ''Sugiyama'' that is near the theatre district. It serves kaiseki, which is a full-blown Japanese set meal (the pre-theatre version is scaled down). Warning -- $$$. There''s also a BBQ restaurant called ''Virgil''s'' right in Time Square. Superb mac and cheese and cornbread.
You asked for sweets and sweets you shall receive:
La Maison du Chocolat.
Buttercup Bake Shop.
Crumbs.
Max Brenner.
Lady M.
Payard''s Patisserie.
Here''s Sugiyama''s menu: http://www.sugiyama-nyc.com/11701.html I forgot one chocolate shop -- Pierre Marcolini. It''s one of the two best in town, IMHO.Date: 1/28/2009 1:41:25 PM

Love Japanese food so I will definitely check out Sugiyama. Perhaps the pre-theatre dinner won''t break the bank! Virgil''s sounds interesting, too, and my daughter is a big mac and cheese fan so it might be very popular. Can''t wait to try out the sweet shops! I will definitely be searching those out.
Do you have any thoughts about where we might see some purty antique cushions? I know that Singlestone and JBEG are great but we''re on the wrong coast. I''m guessing there are some potential sources in NYC?
Congrats, btw, on your 10,000 posts-pretty cool.

Thanks. I hope your little rascals get over it. Soon. Miranda the Spy!
Let''s both go next year. Here are my impressions of this year''s AGTA and GJX shows:
- Business was dismal. I felt so sorry for the dealers.
- It was African Paraiba galore. I find it hard to believe that the material is as rare as claimed. I saw a few pieces of the original Brazilian material. There''s no comparison. I suspect I''ll be waiting a loooooooong time for a Paraiba.
- I''ve never seen so much emerald in my life.
- There were very few top tsavorites.
- There were very few top spinels in the red and red-pink range.
- I''m in love with the green demantoids.
Bloody lovely, lol.Date: 2/10/2009 9:21:08 PM

Hi poppet, how was the trip home?
Apparently, the amount of emerald is not a surprise.Date: 2/12/2009 11:59:24 AM

I gasped when I heard of all of the emerald material. Oh how I love emeralds. It''s a shame they are so soft. sounds like an interesting trip. Yes, let''s go next year.
It would have been too much. Talk about visual overload. In fact, I sat out the second day and slept by the hotel pool. Mmm. I wish we''d met, though.Date: 2/17/2009 8:02:07 PM

Yes, I came home on the day of the big show. That is why I didn''t bother trying to come. I knew it would be too much. I am so happy to be home now, although I had a ton of cleaning to do.
I hope you are feeling better now.
Remember the two Leon rings I showed you? I was so busy looking at them, I didn''t realize your spinal was in between! At least I think it is yours.
Thanks, Sparkles. It''s gone, I think.Date: 2/17/2009 8:41:04 PM

marcy,
I really hope you kick yours soon. It''s been too long. Did your doctor suggest seeing a pulmonologist?
