Obamas, Clintons, and CNN Targeted after George Soros

This story is just breaking. The Secret Service dismantled bombs sent to the Obama and the Clinton families. CNN also received one. Yesterday a pipe bomb was hand delivered to liberal political donor George Soros. The précis below is excerpted from "The New York Times".

"Explosive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as to CNN’s offices in New York, sparking an intense investigation on Wednesday into whether a bomber is going after targets that have often been the subject of right-wing ire.

The three devices were similar to one found Monday at the home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist and liberal donor who has come under fierce criticism from conservatives and conspiracy theorists.

None of the devices harmed anyone. Law enforcement officials said they were investigating whether all the devices were sent by the same person or persons.

Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Mr. Soros and CNN have all figured prominently in the pantheon of conservative political attacks — many of which have been led by President Trump. He has often referred to major news organizations as 'the enemy of the people,' and has had a particular animus for CNN."

Very upsetting that one of trumps nationalist supporters thinks bombing people and a news outlet is acceptable behavior. ( if a person who desperately wanted hillary to be president instead of trump, did this and was trying to tell the press thank you for being honest and the bomb was a big misunderstanding, I will apologize but it is a fair bet that this was NOT a person who is grounded in reality and believes the press is honest and trump is a bold faced liar )

Crap like this is WHY people get upset with the " enemy of the people " LIES trump tells. There are unbalanced and unethical people across this country who listen to the president and respectable leaders ( regardless of party ) should have common sense to never give them the ok to hurt others either directly or indirectly.
I remember when trump said he would pay the lawyer fees for the people who support him and assault people at his rallies. I remember when he told police officers to rough up people who are arrested for crimes and even before that when he said maybe a 2nd amendment person could shoot his opponent.

I hope they find the person who did this. Much like it is NOT funny when trump went on TV and asked Russia to commit espionage ( I dont think he was joking as he claims ) and then russia DOES IT within hours, it is NOT ok that he it telling these koolaid drinkers that the press is the enemy and all lying unless he says it. I forget who he was talking to when he told the people to not believe what they are seeing and hearing but to only believe him ( I think it was the veterans? )

I am just glad CNN and the former presidents are ok. I am so sorry they have to deal with this.

"A fifth device apparently intended for the man who served as Mr. Obama’s attorney general, Eric H. Holder Jr., was misaddressed and because Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s name was on the return address, it was ultimately delivered to her district office in Florida, a law enforcement official said.

Then later, on Wednesday afternoon, another package addressed to another Democrat, Representative Maxine Waters of California, was intercepted at a Congressional mail facility, according to a Democratic official briefed on the investigation. In recent months, Ms. Waters has been a frequent target of Mr. Trump."

These are terrible acts and hopefully the people are caught immediately because this is not what this country should be doing. But by this reporting I can squarely blame Bernie Sanders, Eric Holder, Maxine Waters other Dems calling for harassment of officials for the shooting of Steve Scalise and other Republicans at a baseball field. Right?

I don't know about the baseball field shootings being directly tied to dems, but have you seen this?

Extreme people on both sides should not be encouraged by those with the platform and power to influence. Nature/nurture. There exists a correlation between what people choose to listen to based on what they're hearing political figures and other people in their environment saying and their very nature of whether to act on the emotions invoked in themselves.

This country has loons on both sides and the rhetoric should be dialed down and all the harassment should be condemned by politicians on both sides. I have not heard any Dem say anything of the sort.

Trumps awful rhetoric needs to stop. This president could care less about people. It only matters that he wins. The President’s job is to unite our country, not tear it apart. No one should condone violence.

Redwood I totally agree that the rhetoric needs to be dialed down. but the rhetoric that is coming from the right, is coming from many fronts in particular the president, and the media. You have a president who condones journalists being shot, and backs down from condeming a government who tortures and kills an esteemed journalist who is a U.S. resident!
You have a president at his rallies has people chant "Lock her up" (insinuating that she is a criminal) and says the republican congressman who attacked a journalist is "his kind of guy", that a protestor who was beaten up "should have been roughed up". Even that if someone at his rallies beats up a protestor, he will pay the persons' legal fees! These words influence people. They come from a place of power. They condone and endorse violence to express political opinions. Not right.

Officials from the White House FALSEKY reported that a package containing an explosive device was intercepted by the Secret Service. I don’t know about anybody else, but that speaks volumes to me!!! The Secret service was very quick to deny any such confiscation, and the White House, once again, looks like the dunce, sitting in the corner of the classroom.
Trump and his entire administration created this shit storm. When you elect a clown, expect a CIRCUS!! It’s obvious that Reps are scared. Election Day is approaching. Whether these deeds were ordered by any official, or just some random tool who has a real hard-on for Trump, nothing justifies it. NOTHING.
Whoever is responsible for these acts of terror wants us to be divided; it only makes us more vulnerable and susceptible to anyone who has any intention of doing us harm.
I can’t wait for 11/6. The day of atonement is coming. This country must learn to BE KIND AGAIN.

:roll: I’m not condoning Chump’s rhetoric, but he hasn’t said anything worse than what Holder, Clinton, Pelosi, Waters and a host of other Dems & protestors have said and done when it comes to inciting violence and hatred toward Republicans.

Put the blame where it belongs - on the person/s responsible for these cowardly acts.
 
I do not care for Andrew Cuomo, but I think he was correct when he said that we should all try to tone down the anger because after the election we will have to be one country again. I am not saying that "the other side" will not provoke me, but I will try not to be as hateful as one can be because this state of affairs is bad for our country. One reason I do not like Trump is that he is divisive. Therefore I will try to be more pro-unity, as we were after 9/11, although of course I will speak out and vote my conscience.

I am glad I didn't see it. I get provoked too easily. I am going to try-hard-to draw on my late parents and their spirituality to be kinder even when others are unfair and mean. The Quakers say, "Violence begets violence".
 
It will be interesting to see what Trump says at his rally tonight. It’s also interesting that Trump says “he is a nationalist” and two days later bombs arrive.

Trumps rhetoric emboldens his base.

I need to be on a low news diet, for my own sanity at this point. Anyone who sends bombs, shoots up buildings or people, drives into people for some political message is a terrorist. That's how I feel.
 
I can’t believe Trump said tonight that it’s the media’s job to bring people together. He said it’s the media job to set a civil tone. Meanwhile our President isn’t civil to anyone and does nothing but spew hateful rhetoric.
The silence of the Republican Party is deafening. They have no moral bearings.

Trump had the opportunity to unify the country today. He failed miserably. Two of our past presidents had assignation attempts today.
 
I'm surprised no one updated this thread. Overnight two more bombs were discovered. They were en route to former Vice President Joe Biden and to Robert De Niro. The one that had been en route to Joe Biden had been seen in the postal system and workers tracked it down. I believe the one to Robert De Niro was delivered to his building but spotted by someone with sharp eyes who was sorting the mail. (I am vague on this; I would never publish on the basis of this rumor!)

The more bombs "in the system" the more danger to postal workers and passersby as well, of course, as to the intended targets who do not deserve to be blown up for their political views.

There were two published letters to the editor in "The New York Times" today. I thought they were both excellent and worth reprinting here.

To the Editor:

Re “Explosive Devices Sent to Hillary Clinton, Obama and CNN” (nytimes.com, Oct. 24):

One or more persons are sending bombs to those regarded as enemies by many Republicans. There may be political motivations behind these attempted bombings, or we may be talking about a seriously deranged person or persons seeking to destroy partisan enemies and encourage more Republicans to vote. Whoever is doing this, and why, may or may not be determined.

But let’s make no mistake about what is happening: An attempt is being made to injure or kill some individuals, most likely in an attempt to affect the outcome of next month’s midterm elections. And this action most definitely falls under the definition of “terrorism.” So let’s be blunt and honest in our terminology and call what’s happening terrorist acts. No linguistic pussyfooting around the truth. This is domestic terrorism, and people may die as a result.

Whether or not one is in the line of fire, this is terrorism aimed at all of us who cling to notions of a free and open democracy.

My suggestion for a White House press statement: “We condemn these attempted acts of violence against Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and were really just kidding when the president said he liked candidates who body-slam reporters, suggested beating up protesters and encouraged hateful chants at rallies. We are hopeful that saying these things day after day at large public rallies has not been inciting hatred in others.”

The good news is we have some eagle eyed people working in mail rooms and security and quick acting law enforcement which has stopped any of these packages from getting to their intended targets (or being opened by some naive staffer or administrative assistant). Yes, this is awful. But this terrorist isn't winning. Those of us who value human life are.

De Niro has spoken out against Trump. So that makes him an "enemy." Along with "Fake news," "Lyin' Hillary," "low-energy Biden," and all the others that had bombs mailed to them.

This is TERRORISM. Period. It's not safe to be a liberal in this country any more. :angryfire:

Trump tweeted today: A very big part of the anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News, It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is behind description. Mainstream media must clean up its act. FAST!

When a reporter asked Sarah Huckabee Sanders if the President bears any responsibility for what we have seen? Does he regret the tone he has taken? She replied the President’s condemned violence in all forms and has done that since day one and he will continue to do that. He feels that everyone has a role to play. Sarah was then asked if Trump will quit insulting people when speaking at this rallies (Crooked Hillary, Low IQ Maxine Waters, Trash Heap Joe Biden were used as examples)? Sarah’s reply was the President will continue to lay out the contrasts between democrats and republicans. Americans have a choice to make and he will layout the difference out. Another reporter asked if Trump regretted calling democrats who did not support Kavanaugh Democrats as eviil? She blamed reporters.

This President takes NEVER takes responsibility for his actions.
