My new ring is almost finished, but I'm still trying to make up my mind re which direction to go with shoulder wraps - inverted or protruding.

Does anyone have any examples or links? I'd appreciate any help I can get!

Here's one example (thanks @diamondseeker2006!), but I'm not looking for the diamond shoulder thingies - just plain wraps, as low as possible.

None! It looks so, so amazing as is!

If you do go with shoulder wraps, I envision a delicate band of pave like this (VC design).

Another thought is to have them insert three small diamonds at the shoulder point in the shape of holly berries? Or create a “holly berry wrap” similar to this charm?

Oh you're gooood! This is gorgeous, @ILikeShiny - thank you!

These are lower and more flat than rounded.

Single wrap, but maybe too high.

very different style ring, but DK did these wraps for me and in person they are very small and low

I love that ring, @Lookinagain. What do you think of the idea of diamond wraps?

And there's a new thread for my almost-finished ring on SMTB. :)

I'd probably go with none or inverted (as carved into the metal). In every case I have looked at of outward wraps, they are used to separate a change in the shank design versus the shoulders (except the one Verragio above), almost like they are the base for the shoulders. I love your ring as it is, and I am just having trouble finding examples of outward wraps that I think would look right.

Spot on DS!
IMO outward wraps or cuffs are usually used to integrate a change of material or shape from the shank to shoulder. Your halo and basket are the show!

I agree with DS that your ring is beautiful as is and needs nothing else, but if you really want wraps I might consider something other than just a horizontal wrap. I don't have a way to draw this well, but it might give you some idea of what I'm thinking. I'd try to figure out if something like this, very thin, very low, with very tiny diamonds might work. Not sure that it would but just a random idea. I'm sure DK could take your original CAD and show you some options.

Let me just ask a dumb question -- wouldn't those shoulders be irritating to wear? Especially the lower ones as that would hit about midway into your finger?

Mine as pictured above aren’t. I don’t even feel them and they are fairly low.

Thritto @Bonfire and @diamondseeker2006 - your ring is beautiful as-is, I don't really see that wraps or more decoration would add to its aesthetic! The unbroken taper of the shank works really well plain, IMO :kiss2:

@sledge - Mine don’t either. They’re so tiny in real life that they’re mostly flush. Plus, the fingers don’t really rub together there unless you clench them closed.

Have you made a decision on the wraps? As @diamondseeker2006 already stated, I feel that wraps are mostly used to mark a difference in the upper and lower shank. Or to tie together a (triple wire) shank. I love your gorgeous ring as is.

Here another exemple of a Plaine wrap by Victor and the one he used for my ring (with diamonds):

I have noticed some rings where the wraps are placed low. But my sapphire ring has them to separate shank and shoulders and they are’nt low enough to be between my fingers. I personally like them to be visible from a top view of a ring.

Somebody had a solitaire with engraving on the shoulder area that was very pretty, but I just cannot find it.

Going into this, my plan was always to have reverse wraps, and milgrained 'boxes' - and I still plan to do it. If it looks crappy, I can always get it removed, but for the moment, I just want a little more detail. I had a long chat to Amy this morning, and diamond wraps still aren't off the table, but we'll see how it goes; I don't want something that stops me wearing this ring with a wedder, and I don't see how I could get diamond wraps to work with that. So I'm thinking my detail might be more of the engraving / milgrain kind.

Should have my ring by Saturday! Wooooooot!

As, DS, yssie, and others have said... I'd leave it as is. It's gorgeous!

Hi! DK is making a ring for me right now too and I'm also undecided on wraps. So looks like shoulder wraps be added to a finished ring without the ring being remade? Thank you!

I am not a fan of wraps. IMHO, it breaks the flow of the ring.

Here are the pics of @mrs-b ‘s ring before and after the wraps were added. She opted for the ‘inverted’ wraps which apparantly can be added in a later stage. But I would discuss it with David to avoid disappointments. Not sure whether the 3D wraps (as shown earlier in this thread) can be added later. What kind of setting is David creating for you?

Wow. Her ring is so beautiful!

David's making a ring similar to these but the basket and prongs will be different:

With wraps - https://www.victorbarbone.com/products/antique-diamond-solitaire-engagement-ring

I think I prefer the one without wraps for a more modern look but it would be nice to know that I could change my mind and not have it be too much trouble. I've been thinking too much about this ring. :P Thank you for answering my question!

I prefer the wraps:

In this version:

The pear side motifs flow into the shank with no discernible delineation, however they are different design elements - the wraps clearly visually disambiguate those design elements.

Edit - I'm very glad to hear you'll be working with your vendor to tweak the inspiration design and make your custom mount uniquely yours - looking forward to seeing what you do!
