Need help/opinion about engagment ring

Oops sorry op must have been posting at same time. Would you consider buying the one you keep going back to. I think it is a beautiful ring and you could use the extra money to buy a fancy light pink micropaved wedding band? Just an idea. Or else you could get a smaller pink round diamond and put it in a double halo to bump up the size, again will prob be quite expensive

Have you considered alternatives? As I understand spending 10k for a. 35 ct stone is hard to fathom. Maybe white with a pink halo? Or a pink spinel or sapphire? Your money would stretch a bit that way.

Hello Pinkjewel
I did talk to him.
The main issue is the diamond. They are very expensive for anything that has some real color or size.
He suggested this one:
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/halo-diamond-ring-32ct-purple-pink-cushion-diamond-rosy-halo-gia-r3858
but I am not sold on that design. It looks too square  and there is too much white diamonds on the halo at least for my taste
I still would like to get something like this one
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/crafted-by-infinity-round-brilliant-diamond-100ct-ji1-ideal-cut-agsl-r4904
but with a much smaller stone. He does have some round pink diamonds (~ 0.4 ct) but they are expensive. He said a ring like the one above will be like 14K!!! I guess I could push it to 12K but that is all I can do :-(

OK- since David does not have a pink diamond that works- have you changed your mind on the pink round from fancydiamonds.net? You can still do the type of setting you like. As I mentioned before- there are several jewelers who can make a gorgeous micropave setting for it and they all know how to set a pink diamond. Engagement Rings Direct would probably be the most reasonably priced, but would still do a beautiful job. Or you could go with Steven Kirsch, Leon Mege, or Victor Canera. Many people on the forum buy a diamond from one vendor and have it set with another.

What do you think of this one, I know it is not round but think it's pretty

I would definitely contact David from DBL. I recently purchased a yellow diamond from him and couldn't recommend him highly enough. Tell him exactly what you're looking for and see what he can do.

Scarlett, I think that's a very pretty ring, too. I can't really tell how pink the emerald cut looks in person, but I love the overall look of that ring.

He has a beautiful pink diamond 0.4ct but it is super expensive (like 10K) so it is putting me out of my budget. The diamond is pink enough that I would not need any rose gold cup so that is the advantage but it is just quite pricey.
The diamond from fancydiamonds is taken so I need to find a different one. It was 7K by the way.
I am going to look at the diamond engagement site a little.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that the diamond is taken- I really think it would have worked. Unfortunately, there are lots of lurkers on this site and when a diamond or gemstone is recommended- they tend to get snatched up very quickly. I'll keep my eyes open for something else that might work.

How about this new Argyle fancy orangey pink? With inscription for 9,000.00!!!! I know it's not round-but it's a gorgeous diamond and it will not last long. I think ERD could make you a halo ring around 2,500 and it would get you under the $12,000 that you thought you could stretch the budget to.

eta- also the light pink round I originally suggested is not listed as reserved or sold- so are you sure it's not still available?

What do you think of this one? I guess i don't see it as your typical engagement ring but I am no expert

I think the ring is very pretty and actually the style is definitely used as an ering- as pandabee pointed out, it is patterned after a Tiffany ring. I also think the pink/purple diamond is a nice color, but it does face up quite small. In the listing you can see it on the hand. If I remember right, David's wife's ring finger is around a 5 (she is the hand model). Is it large enough for you? The only other thing I might ask David is about the medium blue fluorescence. Many pink diamonds have it (my fancy purplish pink has strong fl). In a few pink diamonds with fluorescence I have seen the pink color drain out of the diamond in sunlight- so just ask David if there is any change in the color in sunlight.

Yes, the face is a little smaller than I was hoping for but I think I need to be realistic that if I am going to get a pink diamond it is going to be smaller than a white one but that is something I can accept. I was just hopping for a ~0.5ct but even those are really expensive. My issue now is do I spend an extra 3500 for the bigger diamond that Dave has (0.45 ct round) or should I go with this one. Is there a huge difference between a 0.32ct cushion vs a 0.45 ct round diamond to justify the additional cost. If the difference is justifiable I will do it since I don't get to buy engagement rings every other year or so but at the same time I would like to be financially smart about it.

I don't see a pink round on DBL's site. What are the stats on it? Color, clarity, size (in mm) and do you have a picture? Pink diamonds are soooo individual I can't give an opinion sight unseen. Colors within the same color grade vary widely. And don't just go by carat weight- you need to look at the dimensions of the diamond. I recently purchased a natural pink diamond heart that is .46 cts- but faces up like many 1 carat pink diamond hearts, so look at the dimensions rather than be focused on carat weight. But generally speaking- rounds will usually face up larger than a cushion, so chances are it faces up quite a bit larger than the cushion. I have a little .13 pink round diamond I purchased from David that measures 3.3mm- almost the size of the cushion you're looking at- so it may be worth it to buy the larger round diamond.

Well- it is an Argyle diamond with Argyle inscription- so that is a plus, but also inflates the price. The one you're looking at is the smaller SI2, I'm assuming since the other is already set into a ring. I'll be honest- I'm not really blown away by that diamond in the pictures, maybe it looks better in person. I prefer the cushion diamond with the double halo. That's a ring, that although the pink diamond is small, I would be excited about getting. The color grade is also stronger in the cushion- so it will show as more pink/purple.

thank you all for your help
I think I am going to go with the cushion pink diamond. It might not be the biggest around but I do like it and I think it is something I will be proud giving to my girl

You're welcome! I think it's a lovely ring. Please come back and post pictures when you receive it and, of course, we want to see lots of pictures on your fiance's hand after you've proposed!! :appl:
