Mara, i just read your bio and its funny to see that you were a little "rascal" like myself! But i was wondering something, It sounds like you weren''t into your husbands looks or something because you said "quality is better", maybe i interpreted wrong? Your very pretty, and i think you guys make a fun couple. I wish i knew how to post pics of myself so then i could do it?

Daniel, what a funny thing to say (or think???)

When I said 'quality is better in person' (back on page 1), I meant the PICTURE quality, the picture I was posting is pretty grainy in that shot. Not that my husband's quality is better, but in actuality I guess it is...because he's definitely more handsome in person, you don't get the full effect of his beautiful long-lashed blue-green eyes unless he is gazing lovingly at you.

Oh and I'm still a rascal!! To everyone's chagrin.

LMAO! ! ! Wow, thats funny. . . I would of never thought it was the quality of the picture, I just chalk it up to me dazed and confused days. . . Hhaha

Yes you are a rascal Mara, but we wouldn''t want you any other way!!!

Thanks K!

What''s P going to be for Halloween & we need pics! I had a friend whose dog would actually carry around one of those plastic pumkins and continued to do so after Halloween until he got his head stuck in it.

What's P going to be for Halloween & we need pics! I had a friend whose dog would actually carry around one of those plastic pumkins and continued to do so after Halloween until he got his head stuck in it.

The plan is for P to be a BIKER CHICK....we're going to spike her head hair (which is pretty long when it's fluffed out) into a mohawk and then get her a spiked black collar and a black tshirt or something where we can kind of rip holes in it and make it look TOUGH. My mom was horrified when we told her, she said, she's a PRINCESS not a biker chick.

I already got her the hide-a-pumpkin plush set a few weeks ago (like the hide-a-squirrel which she has and adores) and she runs around the house with the pumpkin in her mouth beating it savagely against the carpet. It's so funny to watch. She's SO vicious.

She''s going to look absolutely adorable!!! You HAVE to take some pictures of Portia in her costume and post them!!!

hee hee well plans may have changed. At lunch my girlfriend and I went to the dog boutique at this outdoor mall here and I found the cutest angel wings that go on her back...so I bought those. They were only $16 and I figure they are a good backup in case. I can always tie a pink ribbon in her hair like a headband and she can be an angel. My mom would be much more pleased with that than with her as a biker chick!! We'll see.

Thank god, now you''re thinking. Portia is too sweet to be a biker chic. She needs her angel wings and a pink ribbon!!!

Portia is going to have to take a back seat as TODAY is your birthday!!!! I hope you have a great day and a yummy dinner as well. Thank you sooo much for all that you contribute to PS. You make me laugh and have made me learn a great deal. You have been a great pal to me, and so I say thanks and happy birthday. Lisa

Happy, happy birthday lovely Mara! Hope many yummy sparkly things come your way!

PS. I think the biker chick idea for P is hysterical! You gotta dye her mohawk pink (temporarily of course)!

Happy Birthday!

Can we see pics of Portia in her Angel costume??? Pretty please??

Portia is always so incredibly cute, & that picture is absolutely adorable!!!! You are definitely making me more and more want a Westie when we get a dog.

Odilia I can't rave about Westies enough...Portia is my second and they are just the best dogs...they have the best personalities and they have so much exuberance in their small bodies. After our first Westie who I adored....we only had her for about 7 months before we took her back to the breeder when my Mom found herself pregnant (surprise) with my last sister and she didn't feel like a dog could get as much attention in the household with a new baby...and she wanted the breeder to find her a good home with 10000% attention. I was SO SAD and vowed to get another Westie when I was older...thought about it for YEARS. Friends always got me things like Westie calendars every year, I got Westie gifts and statues etc because EVERYONE close to me knew that I wanted a Westie. It just never was the 'right time' (because I never wanted to give up a dog again, so I wanted to really be ready)...so last year after our wedding...I was switching careers and had some down-time to relax, decided to put out feelers to see what was out there, we got lucky and found a puppy that was available after the gal who had a deposit on her backed out due to something in her life and that was our gain! It's like Portia was made for us. She's the best dog ever!!

Thats the money shot, Mara

very cute

Mara, your sales pitch is making me want one more and more! I love dogs, and like you, I have been (and still am) waiting for the right time to get one when we will have time to give the dog enough attention. (hopefully within the next year) I like medium-size dogs, Westies being on the smaller end, and I like terriers. My best friend for 11 years was half beagle, and we believe her dad was a terrier. (I think probably something like a Jack Russell. The combo of good beagle and good terrier traits made her a great dog!) I''d seen Westies on calendars too, and always thought they were so cute. One day a few years ago, on a business trip but a weekend, I was bored and hadn''t brought anything good to read, and I just wound up in a pet store and bought a book on Westies, of all things! Well, ever since that book, they''ve been high on my list, and I''ve met a few in our neighborhood too that also make me want one more. They seem like such a good combination of excellent dog traits!

The funny thing, Odilia, is that both my Westies have not been 'textbook' personalities..if you read the books it normally says that they are not good with kids, they are not tolerant animals, very stubborn, etc. Not necessarily the makings for a GREAT pet if you believe the hype...but Portia is SO tolerant, partially because we made her that way when she was a puppy...we handled her a lot and did extra training with her and she is so easygoing now, and tolerates almost anything. If a dog irritates her she normally just slides away from them and kind of goes on her own way. Only rarely does she get snappy and NEVER with us, we can take toys and food away from her, we can handle her (she is unnaturely easygoing about this, aka I can hold her in my arms and she is BONELESS limp and can sleep any which way in my arms even with belly exposed) and she doesn't care at all. Around kids she just kind of stands there or sniffs them and then moves on her way. She's also not NEARLY as stubborn as most terriers, thank god because they can be terrors!! Our old Westie was the same way, so tolerant and friendly but still independent, not nearly as stubborn etc. So in reality I have been blessed both times with great dogs..and that is why we will ALWAYS have a Westie with us in the future and maybe even multiples. They are just too fun. *end sales pitch*
2.gif

I know I probably sound like a walking ad for Westies (I actually love almost all dogs!!)...but my best experiences have been with Westies. I used to have a Fox Terrier when I was a little girl, that dog was out of control hyper, chased and ate birds, attacked our neighbor, had no training in him...was just a little fiend (but I adored him of course). Then we got our first Westie when I was a little older, and then Portia just is SO awesome...not even talking about how much we adore and love her, but just her personality and how GREAT she is for a pet. Other pet owners around here have dogs that bark at other dogs or attack them, or HAVE to attack people on bikes, or dislike strange men, or never were fully potty-trained, or chew on the furniture, or scratch doors, or have barking problems, etc... it seems like almost every dog has SOMETHING that would be seriously non-desirable for me (aka WOW your dog destroyed your doors or chronically eats your shoes or or or). But honestly, P seems like a gift from heaven. The only thing that I really would say I dislike is that she has a sensitive stomach and throws up sometimes (and we have stains on the carpet to prove it, part of why we are getting the carpets switched to wood next year!)...but other than that, behavior-wise, she is just an absolute doll. She doesn't drool, doesn't shed, and doesn't bark. And once we get the wood on the floor, we are golden!!

That picture of Portia with the wings is PRICELESS! lol

where is portia''s halo?
12.gif

Mara do you dress Portia up for Christmas???

Belle no way would she wear a halo...I was lucky she was fine with the wings..and didn''t devour them!
31.gif

Kaleigh...we have reindeer ears for her but they don''t stay on very well, they are a little too big and her hair is too ''silky'' so they just slide around and then fall off. My parents got a hilarious picture of her in them last year looking forlorn...I will have to see if I can find it! Oh and she''s got a Christmas red knit sweater from my mom too.
