Who Mara...

Mara,

I remember you posted on our Who''s Who thread that you liked tropical flowers...so for your next anniversary, drop a few hints about this place - Maui Floral. This is one of cflutists favorites - she likes the big boquets with lots of flowers and less of the foilage.

Mara - happy belated anniversary. Glad you had a nice celebration!

Thanks Michelle!! Good times were had by all.

oh! Mala
I didn''t know this topic
wow ! you are so beautiful!!!!

I just realized that I had never updated this thread with pictures of our little westie girl, Portia. There are pictures scattered all over PS...but here are some for the thread, along with our short story.

We got her June 2004, about 2 weeks after we returned home from our wedding/honeymoon! It was fate...as there is a ~1 year waiting list for westie puppies around here, and we found Portia at a breeder that I had spoken with in the past. The gal who had put a deposit onto P before she was born could not take the dog and so we brought her home instead!

Here she is on the ride home with us, we had NOTHING for her, we had to stop at Petco on the way home since we did not expect to take her home with us right away...but we could not leave that cute little face for one more minute.

Her ears are floppy here...they stayed that way for about 1 more week after this picture until the cartilage grew strong enough to hold them upright. It''s a priceless time and I''m glad we had her during it!

Some of my fave pix are of her sleeping...both when she was a pup and even now!!

here is another one the day we brought her home, this was before she came home. she weighed 4 lbs! she was very mischevious when she met us, running around and playing...taunting her brothers and sisters in their playpen to let them know that SHE was outside and free.

From that point on she grew like a weed!!!

My family always makes fun of how she stands (even to this day) with her front paws angled out. It's hilarious...we even have a hand motion for it. You can see her new teeth coming in here, notice her snaggle front one, it's still there. It must run in the family...my grandmother and mother both have a small one that developed in their 50's!

She loved the snow over Xmas...

portia snow 1.JPG

her black button nose and her black eyes peeking out of her white face...this is a classic Portia shot, esp when you wake up in the morning and she is laying by your head staring at you...

another one of her fave positions...i have TONS of pictures of her sleeping...her activity all day long literally is just moving around the house to different areas and sleeping. curled up, stretched out...on the bed, in the corner, by the window. i have rigged a few 'setups' for her like in my office here where she can either sleep in the sun or see out the window....she spends hours here.

i've got more but i'll stop for now!

Portia looks as cute as ever. . .I love pictures of sleeping animals and also, sleeping children. So peaceful!

The best are the little black licorice lips and crooked teeth--so adorable!

Mine have that too and I want to eat them.

I know, I know--I need help.

Her little lips are rubbery too...kind of funny. She likes when we play with her mouth and massage her gums and stuff...Greg used to do that when she was teething.

Jen, I know you like those black foot pad pictures too..I have a few new ones at home that I have to post later.

We dogsat our friend's Jack on Friday and got a taste of what it would be like to have two dogs, one wild one!! Portia is a follower so she does whatever the other dog does...and Elliott was a hyper terror!! They were literally THUNDERING around the entire house. E was up at 6am and wanting to play....we just wanted to sleep more but it wasn't in the cards.
6.gif
I was so happy to drop E off at the next babysitters' house on Saturday afternoon...everyone had a blast with his visit, but Portia and I took a 3 hour nap afterwards!

I love having two dogs. Our Casper was just 5 when we got Callie. He took to her immediately, but Callie was a bit of a diva. I was worried, but they became best friends really fast. Now they just do everything together. When I leave I know they have eachother and won't be lonely. Now Casper is 10 and Callie is keeping him young.

I bet Portia would love a playmate, it's actually less work than you think!!!

Ah! It''s been a while since I poped in to your thread. Love the updates! Love the P shots. Your pick of the B&B brought back memories. We walked around their gardens. It''s a beauty.

I chase F & E around singing, "Mommy''s going to eat those little pods!" (we call them "pods")

I need therapy, not diamonds.

At least through posts like these, I know I am not alone.

The cake was triple chocolate with sour cream sweet frosting just like our original...the real original also had a layer of lilikoi which is the Hawaii specialty but Suzi hadn''t felt it would travel as well as the choco would.

What is lilikoi?

What is lilikoi?

Deb
Deb, it''s taste is sweet/tangy, but mostly sweet. Juices and sauces are common uses for it, it''s concentrate makes for a great base for many a delicious flavor. I have some wonderful lilikoi butter which is made by a girlfriend of mine which I''ve just decided you must have. I''ve sent you a PM.

I was so excited to hear about lilikoi on the WW forum that I forgot to say how much I enjoyed the new pics of Portia, Mara. Those puppy pictures are ta die for!

Thanks for the information Mara and K-mom! I have to diet. Seriously diet. I cannot go eating passion fruit butter of any color...but maybe my next cake dream can be about a cake like Mara's wedding cake :-). (Yes, I get cake dreams.) My lovely next door neighbor didn't understand that I get them because I yearn for cake and am dieting...and of course I had to tell her about one of my dreams. So when she had us over for dinner on Saturday she made a homemade almond cake which she topped with fruit and ice cream. She said if I was dreaming about cake I needed some!!!! So I watched :-(.

God Deb, don''t know if I could just WATCH and not eat!!! Regardless of what I was supposed to be doing.

At first I wasn''t super keen on lilikoi since I don''t usually like fruity fillings, but it really grew on me very quickly....and the cake was just divine, our cakemaker was a baking goddess!!
30.gif
I was kind of bummed we didn''t do lilikoi for the anniversary cake, but figure next time we are in Kauai we can just go get the real thing from Suzi!

I have seen your picture, dear girl, and (trust me on this), you were doing an enormous amount of just watching (or perhaps you were out exercising) while I was eating! Hence the difference in our shapes!!!

Deb :-)

HAH Deb....I could always use a bit more exercise and a little less cake.

Here are some addt'l recent pictures..

Portia likes to take tissues under the bed and shred them. I caught her about to nap under there last week...it was hilarious..all the tissues around her.
