Hi all

My friend is looking for a diamond but will most likely want to buy one offline, the problem is not many diamonds here locally and pricing is not great.

I know very little about diamonds but she showed me this and I immediately saw the chipped culet description. I did plug in the other numbers into HCA and it returned a score of 1.2.

I was wondering if you could have a look at the diamond and let me know what you think. My gut feeling is keep looking but I don’t know enough to describe why. :P2

Price is around $3000 USD

Thank you. I thought she wants a bigger one anyway. Although she’s colour sensitive and thinks H looks cloudy,

She thinks H looks cloudy? How does that work? I’m pretty sure cloudiness is not determined by color. But never fear, all diamond info is here in the forum, and the experts will help you!

Thank you @Doc_1 and @kmoro
I’ll see if she’s open to online shopping.

I bet you anything that she doesn't actually think H's look cloudy. What she's reacting to is poorly cut stones with crappy lab reports (so she's not actually looking at H colors, and/or she's looking at I1 stones with tons of clouds).

I would strongly suggest that she be open to non-in person stones. She will get such a better deal buying online from reputable vendors. IGI grading is horrible and inaccurate.

Maybe she’s not using the correct description, I showed her a K BGD ideal cut in real life but it’s too yellow for her and she described it as cloudy. My other diamond is an E and in no way ideal just GIA good/excellent she says it look clearer.

Ok, well at least she's looking at actual K and E colors. I would say that most people are fine with G, and many many people (though not everyone) will be fine with H. K vs. H is a pretty sizable difference--most people think that they can start seeing a "tint" at I. So I would't discount H color entirely. And honestly, in a super-ideal stone like an ACA, especially one that's less than 1ct, I doubt that H vs. G is going to be anything close to a "deal breaker".

Wait, actually HPD has some incredible options. And they offer a "see it to believe it" where she could see it in person and then decide. Show her the threads on CBI stones--they are seriously incredible and will face up whiter than others of the same color grade (even GIA XXX from what I have seen).

Here are 2 options at different price points:

If it were me, I would buy the .77 from HPD.

@lovedogs if I buy one I would like a CBI one too
