New to this board as I came across it during my long bout of investigative research into a beautiful solitaire engagement stone. The posts I have come across on this forum seem to be very knowledgeable which is why I decided to make an account. I have done a pretty significant amount of homework for a regular retail consumer (I may also have a touch of OCD, lol). But clearly I am still a completely noice when it comes to gemology.
I have looked at numerous stones from many different retailers. The last place I shopped at came highly recommended. I was leaning closer to a G in color, a clean SI1 or VERY clean SI2, around 2 carats, with a triple excellent GIA grade.
I have recently been getting into the nitty gritty of HCA scores and specific dimensions which would be ideal for light performance.
My question is this... the jeweler showed me one specific stone which was literally shining from across the room as he walked it over to me. It was J in color, but was the clearest J I’ve ever seen (I almost didn’t believe him until he showed me the GIA report). It was also an extremely clean SI2 (very clean on top), and 2.56 carats. It was a very good cut, with excellent polish, excellent symmetry, and faint fluorescence. The measurements are 8.86 - 8.88 X 5.34mm. I will upload the proportions.
It scores very poorly with HCA, around a 7 I believe. But this was fascinating to me, because this diamond seemed to have remarkable light performance in person.
The table is definitely very large at 64%. I am puzzled how this diamond appeared so beautiful in person, but in terms of the proportions, it should not have that great of light performance, right?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
I plan to go down there after I get back from vacation in 2 weeks. I would like to look at some stones that are a little smaller in size with better clarity, color, and better proportions to compare.
