I am definitely sold on this ring! I have to pay a deposit while we are gathering the money from different places..... we didn''t actually plan to go ahead with a purchase till the end of this month so we have a few things to juggle!

That diamond and ring look phenomenal....let us know where the ''ball'' finally stops!!!

Oh Maise! I am JUST now reading this. Bless your heart for wanting my opinion, but you would have ended up posting anyway, not sure how much help I would have been. I don't know much in this dept. (OMC's), and could only have suggested buying it to see for yourself.

It is SO pretty!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!!

I'll be watching this thread now. You must have butterfies!!

Congrats, it''s a very pretty ring.

I noticed that Widget mentioned that Leon has a return policy on ready made items - but I didn''t see it posted on his site. Can anyone share what the return policy is?

What a beautiful ring! Congratulations! I hope you''re happy with it once you get it! And I want to see pictures!

Cool!!!! I can;''t wait to see it. Just wanted to say that O/I might refer to the color and clarity.

Maisie

I hope you are taken with the ring when you receive it. You may have seen pictures before on here but I came across this one today when looking for something else. The picture in this link is of an Old Miner.

Thanks Pyramid! That was very helpful!

You''re welcome

O is the colour - on a scale from D-colourless to Z-yellow. Generally, anything below I in colour will look somewhat yellowish, but that may not be too bad because the stone is a BEAUTY!

"I" in this case is clarity, means Included (although wheather it is lightly included or not is not specified). If you are up for a unique stone - this seems a great choice.

Half a carat may not be a lot but arranged in a halo setting and with such a shape it is something that would take my breath away, personally, in all other departments.

This stone, by the way, will sparkle more than any modern cut one, only will not appear so white and bright. Basically, it''s a matter of personal taste, and to me it looks very tasty!

congratulations!!! :)

YAY! So excited for you!

Can''t wait to see pictures when you get it.

Maisie, CONGRATS!

I LOVE IT!

What a lovely ring!!! I adore old cuts, I think they have so much charm! They have some unusual sparkle which usually translates to lots of people asking you what it is and where you got it! Plus, you can;t go wrong with Leon's work!

Perfect choice!!

"This link from GoodoldGold also shows a colour O face up in a round brilliant"

Just sharing info I heard this morning from two folks who specialize in old cuts...They both were telling me that typically, the old style of cutting makes a good old cut face up 1-2 color grades better than a new RB. It explains why the old cut I''m looking at for my ering looks more like an H, but it''s being sold un-cert''d as an I and could be a J if GIA had a go at it. All this is to say that the above mentioned link shows modern RBs, and if I''m not mistaken, a modern RB "O" will face up alot more yellow than an old cut, if that old cut is a nice one. I cant imagine Leon Mege taking in a crappy stone so I''m guessing that stone in his ring is a nice example of an old cut. Just my two cents...

Thank you for all the great replies! Its is very much appreciated.

So.... I spoke to my husband about the ring. He had left it completely in my hands. He is now concerned I won''t like the colour in the centre stone. He also said that I have messed Whiteflash about a bit. I have been in contact with them a couple of times to get price quotes. He thinks that because they have put so much effort into speaking to me by telephone and advising me by email that I should go with them. I have tried to explain to him that I don''t like any of their settings very much but he says the upgrade part of this is important to him. I have been really impressed with the customer service I have received from them though.

I am now completely stressed out. I love the Leon ring - in an ideal world he would be willing to replace the old miner diamond with a modern round brilliant........but I have a feeling he won''t want to. I think that it would be out of my price range to ask him to custom make me this setting for a different diamond.

I am really confused. I am probably confusing you all too.

maisie, if Leon is giving you a return period, why not get it and see what you think once you see it in person. then, if the color of the stone bothers you return it and go with WF. I understand WF has done a lot for you, their customer service is one of the best, but business is business you have to go with what speaks to your heart. You can always reward WF with a future purchase sometime down the road.

I couldn''t have said it any better. Ditto.

Thankyou..... I know I can count on you both to give me the voice of reason.

I don''t know if I can get a return period from Leon. I forgot to ask (I will email him now). I am worried that it will be really expensive to return it as we are in England.

Why is choosing a ring such an emotional and stressful experience? ... maybe its just me.

Yes, find that out about the return and go from there.

It''s not just you Maise, many have labored over choosing a ring. It''s an expression of yourself, and finding just the right one can take some time. It doesn''t surprise me you haven''t found a ring that is "you" right off the bat, you are indeed unique.

Yeah there is just one of me thats for sure!!! Probably for the best lol!!!

I really appreciate your help in this - I don''t have anyone here who loves diamonds as much as me!

I just had an email from Leon. He said that I can''t return the ring as he doesn''t accept returns on items under $10000.

I asked him if he made this ring himself and he said he did.

Not sure what to do now.....

Oh Maisie! I am so sorry to hear that. I thought that he said he didn''t when I talked to him last time, and that must have been the confusion because he DOES for higher priced items.

Is there a local antique store that you might be able to try and go see a few warmer tone stones before you take the plunge? Or someone you trust in NY who could go see it in person before you buy it?

Is the hesitation over the color or the fact that it is included (assuming from the O/I indication)? Can he get you more pictures of the ring? That seems fair since you wouldn''t be able to return it.
