The entire situation is ludicrous, especially with this brand. Contact the local BBB, put in a complaint with names and numbers and the email documentation you have with the individual and let their Corporate [whoever handles bbb complaints] deal with this. You should have been refunded in full, no questions asked. It's not like they won't resell and make their money back.

Deet isn't entitled to a full refund. There's no good faith basis for asserting the ring was misrepresented or shoddily manufactured. Federal law does not require retailers to make refunds at all. And under the laws of any state, retailers are not expected/required be more lenient, more generous than their posted return policy (in some states, if the retailer doesn't post anything about their return policy, they are to issue a full refund for merchandise returned within 20 or 30 days). For someone in Deet's position, filing a complaint with the BBB, a state Attorney General's office, or the FTC would be a waste of time (yours and theirs).

edited: Nordstroms has this rule. Whatever, whenever-they will return an item for a full refund regardless of how long it's been owned.
Not that it matters here since Deet didn't purchase the ring from Nordstorm, but because Nordstrom had lost mega buck$ due to fraud and abuse, that's no longer Nordstrom's policy (hasn't been for a couple of years), e.g., special occasion dresses are not accepted for return and refund if the wired-on tag has been removed; returns without a sales receipt get a Nordstrom's gift card in the amount of the current pricing of the item.

you WILL be able to sell this on the secondary market, and for much more than you would an unbranded diamond. Im sorry things didnt work out, but I really dont see any fault with Tiffany & Co not taking a ring back that had been worn for many many months past their return period, sad story or not. Their (lack of) return policy is very clear. And even if they do have a broken engagement policy, *this was not a broken engagement*. She did not say no.
