Re:

Sunnyd, good luck with your ultrasound today! That's awesome you gained a week. Much better than going the other direction.

Dani, maybe you just have a pregnancy glow about you and that's what your SIL meant? Ha. I'm sure everyone will be getting their fair share of strange comments. I'm probably guilty of delivering some myself. Sometimes it's hard to know what to say when you find out someone is pregnant, so you end up saying something dumb.

AFM, ultrasound is tomorrow. I'm half excited, half terrified. It will be good to know whether things are on track though. Feeling pretty good other than wishing I could have my hour back this morning. I'm tired. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Re:

Dani, I totally got the "There's something in your face" comment too when I was still keeping my pregnancy a secret. It was from DH's coworkers, very nice ladies. But they were like, "Yeah we knew. You could tell in L's face." WTF? What's that supposed to mean? Anyway, I think it's probably like what MP said, a glow or something because I definitely don't think my face looked different than otherwise. Oh and we knew what we were having, but DH didn't want to tell anyone. So our nursery is totally not decorated or anything. Oh well, it's not the end of the world.

MP, :appl: I'm so excited for you, my friend! I'll be checking this thread a bunch tomorrow. I know how nerve wracking the wait is, and it must be even more so for you. But allow yourself to be a little excited. I'm really hoping you have the best pregnancy ever! And sounds like you're starting to get some symptoms (fatigue). So hopefully that puts you at some ease. I never had much symptoms, just some fatigue around 2PM that lasted 20 mins. No nausea, boob-soreness etc. So maybe you're one of those lucky ones that just glow and look radiant during pregnancy. I'm sure that's the case.

Hi all!

ChinaCat congrats on TEAM PINK!!!

Monkeyprincess I read up on the Ramzi method thing and it has something to do with the manner in which the blastocyst separates into layers and that being somehow linked to the X/Y chromosome make-up... don't ask me to explain that in any more detail because I couldn't if I tried :cheeky: I still can't work out if my scan is a 'straight down' view or a 'flipped' one so I have no idea how to read the it! I will be checking in here regularly tonight, I am sending you lots of prayers and healthy baby vibes, I hope your scan goes fabulously :) :) :)

Sunnyd yay for a good appointment and hope you have a great scan today! Hope your SIL had a smooth delivery and that her and baby are both well. And that you got baby cuddles over the weekend!

Dani I have gotten those 'oh I just knew - you looked different / seemed different / insert other random thing here' types of comments. I just smile and let them think they're clever :) Take those naps when you can Momma, you are doing hard work in there and you deserve the rest!!!

AFM just chugging along. We spent the weekend staying in the hotel we had our wedding reception at, they give us a special deal every year on our anniversary. It was lovely and DH treated me to a massage, which was just divine. Still exhausted, nauseous, etc. but all to a lesser degree than two or three weeks ago, so that is good.

13 weeks today, officially into the second trimester. Does that mean a move to the proper pregnancy thread is in order? I can't really claim to be 'just barely' pregnant any more I guess...

We had a great scan today! It was so fast though, I was in and out in under 5 minutes! I'm measuring 7w6d, so behind by 5 days, but because I O-ed 22 days into my cycle it makes sense to me. It was great to see the little peanut and hear him too!

My SIL hasn't had her baby yet, which is hard to believe! She's had crazy contractions for the last 5 days! She's only dilated to 3 cm though, the poor thing! They might get induced tonight, but she really wanted to go all natural. We shall see!

MP can't wait to hear about your ultrasound tomorrow!

Dani, when I read the "I could see it in your face" comment by your SIL, I thought glow as well. That's the only thing that makes sense! Unless you look like a 13 year old who doesn't wash their face like I do...

Buttons, sounds like you had a great weekend!

Hi everyone else! Happy Monday? Hehe.

Thank you so much for the good wishes ladies! I am back from the ultrasound and the news is GOOD! Baby is measuring about right on time now (9 weeks 3 days), so either it caught up or more likely the measurement was slightly off last time. I’m so relieved! It was crazy to see the little one looking like a big-headed baby. I’m hoping this will all start to feel real now!

Sunnyd, so glad your ultrasound went well. Sounds like you were pretty much right with your dates before, and that makes complete sense if you had a later ovulation.

Buttons, congrats on 13 weeks! That’s exciting.

Dani, I think we’re due right about the same time, as my due date is October 13th. I told the NP that as long as that’s not a Friday (it’s a Saturday), I’m fine with it!

Thanks for checking in China and LC! LC, I’ve been lucky to only have mild nausea once in awhile. No sore bbs or much fatigue, so I guess I should just consider myself lucky! Definitely not feeling like I’m glowing, but today I probably am because I am so relieved!

As far as the NT scan, anyone care to weigh in on the pros and cons? We would not act on the information, so it would be purely informational. She gave us some literature to look over, but we haven’t really thought much about it yet….

Yay, and congrats!!

We went ahead and did the NT scan. Like you, it wouldn't have impacted our decisions, but we wanted information. If there was something wrong with the baby, we wanted time to plan and prepare. The main problem is there are a lot of false positives (something like 90% of abnormal results are actually normal), so it can cause a lot of unneeded worry and stress. In our case, we the baby had a giant nasal bone so we were pretty sure there wasn't a risk of downs. It took another week to get the blood test results, but I wasn't worried at all (well, maybe like 3% worried) while waiting for the results. The major pro of the whole thing was getting to see the baby when he first started looking like a baby. Until then he was more of a blob. So that was definitely a plus.

This is a flying post because I am dying today with nausea and a horrible headache so not up to much in the way of reading/posting but I wanted to say to sunnyd and monkeyprincess that I am so glad to read your posts and to hear you had good scans! Yay!!!

Re:

MP - SO happy you received good news at your ultrasound!!! Will you continue to have more? Or just the NT scan (if you choose to) and then the anatomy scan? We turned down the NT scan, only because we did not want to worry the whole way through my pregnancy if something was "possibly" wrong. Plus I heard some insurance companies will not cover the whole cost as well.

Re:

MONKEY! YAY mama!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: So so so so happy to hear that all looked great at the scan! How are you feeling, emotion-wise? Finally feeling like you ARE pregnant? As for symptoms- you're lucky and that's all it is. You are due some good pregnancy mojo, so enjoy it. Maybe it's a boy? :cheeky:

As for the NT scan- hmmm. My first thought is if you aren't going to do anything, why? OTOH, personally, if there was potentially something wrong I would want to know so that I could prepare. There are things that are serious but that they can prepare for at birth, or even (worst case scenario) do during utero (like fix heart issues). However, I assume that most of those things show up later and can be detected at your 20 week scan, etc. So IDK, in your case, might be nice to forego it and just relax at this point.

Re:

MP - We opted for the NT scan last time and will do it again this time (it's actually scheduled for this week). We did it for several reasons. Most people think of downs syndrome when they think of the NT scan, but it can also detect other, much more serious defects, including those that would not allow the child to survive or to have any quality of life. Both DH and I work full-time, so even if we weren't to take any action to terminate, we would want to know if we were having a child that couldn't attend daycare like our DD as we would have to make drastic changes to our plans. So even if you weren't to take any action, from my perspective I would like to know for planning purposes. As CC mentioned, in some cases they do surgery in utero and in others if you knew there was an issue you could choose to have the child at a hospital with specialists, arrange for any immediately necessary surgeries, etc.

To be honest, I also don't know that I would choose to continue to carry a child that was likely to die in utero or shortly after birth. I think it is very hard to say what you would do until faced with that situation. I also have a 2 year old DD, so choosing to have a child with serious birth defects that would need life long care essentially means that we are choosing to either (1) force DD into a lifelong caregiver situation once we are gone/elderly or (2) choose to institutionalize our child at that point.

I also wanted to comment on the "false positives" AMC mentioned. The NT scan doesn't give you a negative or positive result, it gives you odds based on your age and the results of the u/s and bloodwork (i.e. 1/1000). If you have an elevated risk, you can opt for a CVS or amnio, which will give you a definitive postive or negative and I believe are 100% accurate.

True, my wording was off. My doctor does use the terms "negative/positive," but a positive result only means your odds are greater than what is expected for your age. So not positive in the "yes you have it" sense of the word.

Re:

Thanks for your thoughts ladies. DH and I will look over the materials and talk about in the next few days and decide what we want to do. I would like to have the information if God forbid there is anything wrong, but as you may have noticed, I'm a huge worry wart over this pregnancy and I'm not sure if I want to subject myself to more worry right now. We'll see.

Also, I thought I'd post the ultrasound pic from today. Hopefully it will work from my phone....

Re:

Monkey- what a precious pic! I just love how tiny he/she is! So cute!

I had an NT scan without really knowing what it was. I knew we would be getting blood results and they would be looking for *something* on the ultrasound, but honestly I just thought it was standard "how is the baby" type ultrasound. We werent given the option to have or not have the u/s, I don't believe. I have a bit of a language barrier here, so I have taken almost everything in stride concerning the doctors visits. So, saying that, if you want to take a peak at the little one then I'd suggest getting the scan. I loved seeing her during that scan and didn't focus on the possibility of something being wrong. I'm a worry wart, but my mind goes blank when she appears in the screen. :)

Monkey, I'm SOOO happy for you!! Look at your baby, how cute! See, lack of symptoms doesn't always mean anything. ;-) You're probably having a boy since boys don't usually give their mamas morning sickness as much as girls do. Yay for great news!

I hope you can really start to enjoy your pregnancy now - you deserve a stress-free 31 more weeks after all that you've gone through to get to this point! Keep that cute ultrasound pic on your phone so you can look at it every time you need a little smile.

Re:

China, I feel SO much better today. Obviously the worry will never completely go away, but I told myself before the appointment that if things were looking on track today, I would let myself enjoy this pregnancy and start to “bond” with the baby, although I think that will be a little hard until he or she makes his presence known. Initially, my gut told me it was a boy, but now I have no idea. If Ramzi’s theory is right and my ultrasound is in the correct orientation, that would mean girl I think. The Chinese gender predictor said boy (and that has coincidentally been right with all four of my nieces and nephews by the way). I can honestly say I don’t have a preference either way, and I get equally emotional imagining one or the other.

Missy, no more special scans for me. If we elect to do the NT scan, we’ll see Bumby in a couple more weeks, otherwise, I don’t think we’ll get another one until the anatomy scan. She did tell me that if I ever need any assurance, I should feel free to come in to listen to the heartbeat, so that’s good to know.

Thanks everyone else for your input on the NT scan and your sweet comments on the ultrasound pic! It’s funny how emotional you can get over a big-headed blurry little blob when it is your big-headed blurry little blob :D

Monkey, if I didn't say it already - I'm thrilled for you! You're going to have a baby! 5 weeks ago, you thought you were getting your period and had given up on the cycle. Then, you got the crappy beta news. Now, you have a little gummy bear in your uterus! :appl:

Re:

Hi Ladies!

MP What a great US picture! I hope you settle in and get some relief from worry.

I know some others have mentioned headaches (buttons and Pette I think) and I'm wondering if anyone else is getting them regularly. It seems like every day this week either right before or after lunch I get a sudden, splitting headache! Unfortunately there is a young sales guy that comes in and out who is super heavy on the cologne and I think that combined with 'ready for lunch hunger' might be my trigger. I don't really want to be that girl that asks him to chill out on the cologne but dang it's getting annoying! Usually it will pass, sometimes I take tylenol but today I actually went and took a nap in my car after lunch! That was great, would have been better if I had a car pillow. New pregnancy must have - mobile sleeping gear.

I have become a bit fixated on finding out the gender lately! All of the 'signs' not bad sickness, no cravings for sour, only sweet are pointing towards a boy. The chinese gender predictor thing said girl though. The wait!

DH and I are trying to buy a house and after looking at our budget, we decided to axe the big babymoon to St Thomas : ( We jsut can't afford it and it's not practical. We'll still do some shorter, closer trips, to be planned later.

How is everyone else?

It's very spring-y here this week and I wanted to wear a summer dress with leggings for work today - come to find out all 3 I tried on no longer fit my boobs! I guses it's official, I need to go through my clothes ASAP.
