You should be fine at that size and an AVC will perform differently to a round also.

Post the link to your particular diamond but I doubt it, these antique cushions have distinctive corners and a much different virtual facet pattern than a round.
If you want to highlight the shape of the cushion use smaller prongs especially ont he corners or get a custom halo or bezel that really respects closely the outline of the stone.

The only cushion i would say that has the potential to look like a round would be the square cushion HA and especially if you put large prongs covering the corners on it, otherwies no they really don''t look like rounds even from far.

here''s my diamond (and it''s an F color, I think I may have said earlier that it''s an E color, whoops):

i was thinking of doing the double prongs at the corners a la leon mege . . . i think that would emphasize the shape, no? or do you think it will overwhelm the stone?

Double split prongs on corners can definitely help emphasize the cushion shape of the stone, I have a large round set that way and it definitely reduces the round look, so it should be a good choice for your lovely cushion.

glad to hear it! (re. the double prongs). thanks!

Gorgeous!!! Congrats! The AVC was the best choice.

so pretty!!!!! congratulations :)

thank you, laila619! i think you are the person who posted the cushion ring thread? with all the pics of various cushion rings? [drool!] awesome thread! ;-)

It is stunning. I think if it wasa square you would have more worries about it looking like a round, but since it is elongated I think there will be NO mistake

awww, thanks everybody! i was a little worried about posting it b/c if anybody were to make any kind of derogatory comment i''d feel like waaaahhhh! u know? you guys are the best ;-)

i''ll need all your help when it comes to the wedding ring (hmm, what would go with a cushion?) buuttt we have plenty of time for that. i think i should just worry about getting the ring completed for now.

p.s. i LOVE THIS SITE!!!

yeah i''m totally loving that setting! [swoon]

There will be no mistaking it for a round. I have a 1.5 ct and 1.7 ct cushion - they don''t look like rounds.

hey guys,

so GOG quoted me $4500 for a setting such as this:

http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=26

with .5 total weight of the bullets on the side (.25 each). does that seem like a lot? (it will be in platinum and i''m not sure if it''s a casting, done by computer, or what. i asked for more information and will provide it when i get it.)

i''m still waiting on a quote from leon himself (it''s been 2 days). i''m a little worried he won''t respond b/c i had asked for a quote on another setting weeks ago, and never received a reply.

That seems like a whole lot to me...Even if the sides are $1500 thats $3000 for the platinum ring/setting. Seems like Leon should
be able to do it for that price...you'll have to let me know. Maybe I just havent priced any plat lately!

Edit - I just checked some of BGD 3 stone plat settings and it looks like they were running $1600-$2200 without the stones.
Maybe it is the difference in the way the rings are made. I'd sure find out before I handed over that much.

it does seem like a lot, right?! i don''t think i will be able to use them. i really would like leon to do it b/c i friggin'' lurv his double claw prongs but he still hasn''t gotten back to me. i will call him on monday. i''m a lil intimidated after reading all the posts about him.

i also asked brian gavin for a quote. i just wonder if they can do the double claw prong as nicely.

anyone know anyone besides leon who can do the double claw prongs nicely, and has the same elegance as his rings? his rings look friggin GAWGEOUS on his site and on this site, too! ughghgh, leeeonnn get back to me, plleaassseeee! hahaha

Don't be! I was scared based on what I read here but there is nothing to be nervous about. Leon is really nice and I found him very easy to work with. My problem is that he doesn't work on the weekends and doesn't do emails properly. I never have time to call him during the work day to sort out what I want to make!

If you want a Leon, get a Leon. You will just end up re-setting late down the road to a Leon anyways :P

thanks, charmypoo. okay i''m definitely calling him on monday. do you think that setting will cost an arm and a leg? anybody have any idea?

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I got my leon quote, I got my leon quote!!!! now i just gotta figure out if GOG is gonna send the stone to him or to me first or what!! (GOG is closed today so I will find out tomorrow!) I was so happy to hear from Leon, I cried! hahaha i''m NUTS! that''s okay though b/c I''m getting my Leon!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Have GOG send directly to Leon. Saves you the hassel.

Yes, that''s what I would prefer. I''ll see what Marie at GOG says tomorrow. I am so excited I can''t even STAND it!

How much did Leon quote you?

Leon quoted me $2200 for labor and metal. The sidestone will be extra. I will know how much those cost once he picks them and I agree to them.

It won''t be a problem for them to send it directly to Leon. They did it for me and many others.
