I NEED HELP! Trying to order my "temp" for now setting...

PLEASE HELP ME, I'm working with GOG to make my "temp for now" setting. I will probable have this setting for 6-8 months before I order my fancy setting so I want it to be nice but simple. My stone is a 3.19 ct AVC and I have chosen to slightly modify their Lily setting to make it with double prongs and a slight taper towards the head. They want to make it a 2.8mm tapering to a 2.5mm but I'm afraid this is going to be way to wide for my finger. I'm only 5"2 so as you can imagine I have pretty short fingers. My current wedding band is a 2mm I believe. Do you think that will be too narrow for a 3ct?

Well, you want this thing to be sturdy enough to hold a stone of that size. I don't think it will be too wide for your finger at all. But I'd address concerns with GOG. I know they want you to be happy with the look, but keep in mind they want it safe too.

I like tanks. I'd go with 3mm. When I ordered my temp, the jeweler suggested 3mm for a 10mm stone.

The width of the shank isn't going to make your fingers appear shorter or anything-- remember, your stone is still larger and will be what takes up the space on your finger!

Why not just wait and put all of your thought and money into your forever setting?

We'll I thought about that as well since the "temp" setting is going to be a little over $2k :confused:

But that will leave me with no ring until the end of the year...

How much is the cheapest stuller setting they can put it in in Plat or WG (whichever metal you were using?) Do that.

2nd. I did that w/ my AVC - just a simple Stuller. Cheap (comparatively) - like a few hundred. Then save for your dream setting!

I got my 14KT unplated WG setting for $350. Buy a cheapy.

Stuller is one of the most reputable and widest known stock setting/casting manufacturers. I know GOG carries Stuller settings as well as Ingwer. I just would ask for the simplest, most inexpensive option you can get (I'd get it in platinum if you have an issue with nickel or have platinum bands you'd be wearing it with) that will securely hold it til you get your dream setting.

I got my temp setting for $300 and it was made at Amcor Designs. I did this whole process through Poppyseed who you can find on diamondbistro. I was looking for a classy but cheap setting and they delivered.

I think it's very wise to buy something inexpensive as your temp setting. But if your heart's set on the roughly $2000.00 one, get it. I've had a lovely AVR for 3 years and am only now getting around to setting it... in its temporary setting. I didn't want to "waste" any money on a temp setting, but couldn't decide which of the more expensive ones I loved most, so I put it off. Enjoy your stone!

Wow you've had that amazing stone for 3 years without setting it?? I think I would go crazy not being able to wear it! As it is right now I pull it out of its box everyday just to see it lol.

As far as the setting goes I'm so torn. I really like the "temp" setting but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. I have all but made up my mind I'm that I want to go with the Tacori setting once my finger size stops fluctuating but that will most likely be end of year.

Crystal, I have a tendency to be a bit…frugal so my opinion might be colored by that, but if you were going to be wearing this setting for a longer period of time, I'd say go for it; if you're going to be wearing this setting for less than a year I really do think it makes more sense to go with a less expensive temp and put the rest of the money towards your dream setting.

$2k for a temp setting you'll be wearing for 6 months is really silly, IMO, unless your budget is unlimited. Otherwise, I'd spend <$500ish for now and put the funds toward a forever setting. I really like the Stuller setting that's been posted.

No way on this earth would I pay $2k for a temp setting! :eek: I'd want that $2k to go towards the forever setting!!!

$500 would be my absolute MAX. Tell them you want it set in a Stuller or Unique Settings 4 prong basket setting in 14k white gold.

I agree with the other posters: it would be better to save your money for your final setting or spend no more than 500 dollar.

I'll chime in with the others that 2k for a temp setting is just silly. Get the least expensive setting that is safe for your stone and call it a day.
